How to avoid getting FF-d?

Lately my marine play is almost about trying to not get FF-d. I don't dare to go forward at assaults. When I take a position I watch the marines around if they have still a big enough arc to shoot, maybe they will choose it instead of me. I try to keep a couple tiles between me and others etc. But nothing really helps. Even in the most ridiculous situations I got shot when a hunter or runners turns up. Please, share your techniques.

It's nearly impossible to avoid FF unless everyone's a smartgunner, FF happens to the most robust of us all, just remember to watch your firing line, watch other's firing lines and hold fire when a hunter/runner shows up in the middle of your squad, it's trying to get you guys to shoot eachother.

Learning the Bullet Paths helps a great deal but generally you will at some point get friendly fired or will friendly fire someone.

In terms of avoiding Friendly Fire, try and be aware of other Marines around you in relation to the enemy targets everyone is firing at.

It can be awkward to avoid FF, on the one hand the best way to avoid it is to stay moving in a straight line without deviating as this makes your movements predictable for other Marines. But on the other hand the best way to avoid being hit by ranged Xeno projectiles or being hit and runned is to be moving around in a unpredictable manner.

You, as a player, will need to determine when its best to act conservatively or aggressively in relation to friendly fire.

Also, if you think a situation is going to be FF hell, such as a tight corridor with no room to maneuver, then simply don't go down there in the first place

Or a serious answer:
- Always call when you'll be standing in the LoF.
- Force your team to play tactical, but don't expect your team to do so.
- Don't over-extend.
- Don't take any CQC build and try to use scatter tactics (2 tile away from any ally) when defending: Let the CQCs take the FF for you.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

I am a new player but I noticed, that you have to pay much more attention to the movements of your fella marines, and not the aliens. If there is anyone, literally anyone of your friends in front of you, you should avoid burst fire and shoot single shots. While you are in front of your squad, before perform any movements that can get you into the line of fire, double-triple check everything, be sure there is no marine firing your side at the moment. Actually, if you will think about avoiding FF every single moment, constantly looking around, you will end up shooting less marines and will not be killed by them in return. But after all you can not avoid FF totally, you can minimize chances, but there is always an asshole, that will shoot you up with AP round in the briefing

One thing people don't really mention is be alert to which gun-mode you're on. It makes stuff so much easier. If everyone did this, FF would be so much less severe. When you're alone or with 1-2 others, blast aliens with burst. If you're in a tightly packed area with 4+ marines (e.g standing behind tables) and runners and hunters are using hit and run tactics, single fire is the way to go since you want to be able to run. Single fire allows you more control, burst fire allows you more damage and to be honest, it's harder to avoid. Burst fire is better but single fire is safer.

Always yell at your fellow marines to check their firing lines and to have trigger discipline. If they know what those mean then that simple reminder will cause them to try to play more smartly without massacring their comrades
