Westhybrid Commander Whitelist and Retirement Reinstatement Appeal

Post by Westhybrid » 14 May 2017, 04:44

Your Byond ID: WestHybrid

Character Name: Darius Ico

Type Of Ban (Job-ban, Timed Ban, Permaban): Removal from Commander Whitelist

Admin who banned you (if known): Most likely Feweh.

Total Ban Duration: Permanent.

Remaining Duration: ^

What other servers do you play on? Paradise, Bay12.

Are you now or have you been banned on any of them? No.

Reason for ban: In the last weeks of March that I was an Admin, myself and some other Mods were fooling around doing shenanigans and created an old joke called Ko'Ert Bahl'la (Court Baller), a Predator that wears basketball shorts and plays basketball. It resided mostly to the Thunderdome shooting hoops and we had a good laugh about it. In the last two minutes of the round, I teleported the Pred into the escape shuttle. No one was on the escape shuttle or close to being on it, the Moderators and I were just having a good laugh about if it made an appearance on the Sully. I made sure to spawn it where no one could see it, intended on deleting it soon after. Everything in good fun. Only people who saw Court Baller were the ghosting dead, the Moderators and myself. Feweh sees Court Baller, deletes it, quickly removes all my verbs, Admin privileges, forum and Slack access. I explain the situation and apologize, I figure it's close enough to my retirement anyway so I don't put up a fuss, I apologize profusely and say I'd love to come back as a Mentor some day, I post a farewell on the forum and I take my leave after close to 18 months of being an Admin.

I recently logged back in to try out the new map and see the Almayer to find that my Commander role that I had been whitelisted for is no longer available. I messaged Apop and Feweh, got a response from Apop, we corresponded and I was told I was removed directly from the Whitelist and that my actions during the Pred memeing were a result of that removal. I also checked the updated staff list to see that my removal is listed as an Admin-abuse firing and not a retirement. No one had ever contacted me about anything to get my side of the story or my appeal during the incident, so I had assumed everything was settled and laid to rest. It was actually sad to see my name dragged through the dirt a bit, and I really hope none of the other Admins or Mods were given the impression I did this as like a "oh, I'm retiring so let's just fuck around," situation. I was still very much doing my job and intended to for the week I was remaining up until April 1st. So let's talk about the first thing.

For one, I'd like to have my name be reaffirmed to the Commander Whitelist. My conduct as an Admin, which while I admit was stupid and silly of me, doesn't reflect or coincide with my ability as a Commander or as a community member. I enjoy playing the role, I'm good at it, I like to contribute to the round at large in that position. My whitelist app was accepted and met all the conditions, and to my knowledge, nothing that I did in that situation spawning the Pred dictated a Command role ban. If it did, I feel Feweh should've saw fit to have banned me from every other Command role. If my actions correlated with the Command Whitelist, there was no reason for him to stop there. Further to the point, it's evident to me at least that what I did doesn't reflect the Command Whitelist in any way, as spawning mobs (for dumb as my reasons were) have nothing to do with playing or being Commander in a round.

As for how I'm listed on the staff list. I would hope some of the current staff, former staff, and community members would vouch for me, especially the Moderators that saw me spawn the Basketball Pred, that I wouldn't intentionally fuck with a round in an immersion-breaking manner. I took my job fairly seriously, and although my ability to dedicate time to the server severely dwindled (and I won't deny that, I was doing a poor job of attendance in my last four months), I made sure that my conduct was strong and that I made rounds enjoyable for those who were playing them. I made sure to keep the Pred out of sight, I did intend to delete it before anyone even had a conversation with it, if anyone wandered onto the shuttle at all. In fact, it remained in the thunderdome for a majority of its brief existence. I won't defend the actions themselves because it was stupid and silly of me to be doing it in the first place, but the way I went about it should at least lend to the notion that I was trying not to make a mess of things. It was the last two minutes, it was out of in-game sight with the exception of ghosts and aghosts, and the intent was to keep it that way. In the end, no one saw it but the dead, the Mods, and Feweh.

I enjoyed my time as an Admin and I tried to do what I could when life wasn't getting in the way. If I seemed abrasive or shitty at my job in moments, I apologize. I'll apologize again for what happened that day. But I never intended it as admin-abuse, it was a silly thing with the Mods and ghosts watching. I fully intended to come back when life got easier in the summer as a Mentor or Trial Mod. I did not use that time announcing my retirement as an excuse to dick around; I planned on dedicating a good amount of hours in my final stretch. If it seems a lot to ask, then you can ignore this, but I'd like to have the admin-abuse taken off that record and be listed as a retired staff. I would honestly love to come back at a later time when things aren't as hectic. I loved being a part of the team and helping where I could.

If, all and all, none of this is accepted, than I'm sorry for causing a ruckus. I'll enjoy the roles available to me and try again at a later time. I do assert that the CO Ban is a little out of place considering the context, but given my actions I'm not going to put up too much of a fight if you feel that strongly about it.

Anyhow, like I messaged Apop about and mentioned in my farewell post, I really did appreciate my time on the Staff and the opportunities being there presented, and given the chance I'd love to come back again some day. I'm sorry for departing in a shitty manner.

Thanks.

I actually had little involvement with this and only relayed it to management. I didnt even know why you werent whitelisted for CO anymore truthfully.

If you spoke to Apop I dont understand why he didnt just tell you he removed you and exactly what for, since it was him. However, your removal for abuse was warranted and was/is the proper reason we removed you. Even if you were planning on retiring or not it makes little difference.

We messaged back and fourth over PMs.

Firstly, this is not the proper way to do this. There is no appealing for commander removal, you reapply.

Secondly, it was not feweh that removed you from commander. He alerted headstaff of the situation and it was a group decision for the reasons I stated to you over PM. I actually don't remember if feweh was still part of the convo when we decided to remove everything and not just staff early. Also, it was my decision to make clear the reasoning in the staff list. It reflects the situation. You had been on staff long enough to know I am fairly transparent with things and we keep very accurate records.

You admin abused right after declaring your retirement. There was only one way to see that: "I'm leaving anway. Not worried about consequences". The way you meant it, or what you meant or wanted to happen doesn't change the fact of how it happened or how it viewed. Your actions determined what happened in the end, and we took the same actions as if it had been anyone else on staff doing the same thing in the same situation. You received the punishment that anyone else would receive, as I'm holding you accountable for your actions and breach of procedure.

Feel free if you want, to clarify as to why you should receive special treatment and exception to the same standards as the rest of staff.
