Re: Albion Online
It's a pretty enjoyable game depending what you wanna do. I focused crafting when I played last time, but I haven't played since November.

Kinda reminds me of Haven and Hearth looking at the trailer, but far less hardcore, which could be a good thing.

Re: Albion Online
I'll write a quick summary of the main aspects of the game:
The game takes place in 6 types of "zones":
Cities: where trade, crafting, guilds, ERP, and everything else happens. You can also buy pieces of land and build shops and things on it.
Islands: You have your own private "island" and "guild" island. You can build buildings for crafting and other things on it. You can also set it up so others can access it and pay you to use your facilities.
Green: Everyone is an ally. These are super low level areas where you can harvest mostly in peace. If you die, it's just some money lost.
Yellow: Flagged PVP. If you flag yourself, you can hit ANYONE. However, anyone (even unflagged) can hit you. You also get a movement penalty. On death, you lose gold your killer can pick up.
Red: Full PVP. No movement penalty or anything like that. If you die, you drop EVERYTHING you are carrying.
Black: Guild Controllable. Guilds and groups can take control of Black Zones. Other than that, it's basically a Red Zone. All the higher level resources are in black zones.
PVE:
PVE is fairly limited. There are instanced "dungeons". Basically, you clear the dungeon and get boatloads of money with a chance at some nice loot at the end. The game isn't built around PVE though, so there isn't as much PVE content as PVP.
PVP:
The game is built around PVP and the economy. There are PVP zones, PVP instances, PVP events, all sorts of stuff. Also, every 8 hours there are big "treasure" drops that are on the global map, encouraging people to fight (and even camp) for them. When you die in PVP, you typically lose everything on you and some gold. Even if you recover your body, most stuff turns into "junk". But, PVP is what drives the economy.
Economy:
Gathering:
Frequently, guilds will secure areas and protect their gatherers. In the Black zones, gatherers are the LIFEBLOOD of Black Zone Towns. Without good gatherers making sure the nearby town is stocked with materials for merchants (more on that soon) you'll almost never get trade caravans bringing low level mats out (I'll explain in the Crafting section) and you're guild will "Suffocate". Gathering is fairly easy, but your tools only have so many uses before needing to be replaced. Meaning that while gatherers may have Tier 5 gathering tools, they still need to gather a lot in order to be able to keep themselves functional long-term.
Crafting:
Crafting is pretty much a playstyle all by itself and it takes a LOT to get started. Since the entire economy is player-driven, you can trace literally everything in the game to crafting. Any sword you buy, was made with materials gathered and then crafted. Crafters can typically be noticed by the way they run from town to town naked on fast mounts. Reasoning for this, is because most crafters will buy materials in a specific town with Buy orders, craft whatever they are specialized in, then crate sell orders for that and new buy orders. I was a crafter and it was not unusual for crafters to have millions of silver in "Escrow" and very little Liquid assets. Most crafters (due to the difficulty) specialize in 1 or 2 things (I specialized in Warrior Armor and Boots) and make JUST that. Reason is, you have to spend a LOT of materials to be able to craft different things and the stronger the gear the more specialized and more difficult it is to make. Especially because resources are a bit complicated. For example, if you need to craft a T3 pickaxe, you need T3 wood and T3 Metal. But, to make T3 Wood and T3 metal, you need T2 wood and T2 metal. And onward down. Thus, if you are a crafter out in the deepest black zones and cities, you still need lower level stuff. However, it's much less available out in the middle of nowhere and frequently not worth the risk to gather. This is where merchants come in.
Merchants:
There are two types of merchants, ones that run in groups and make decent money transporting materials but are fairly safe and ones that make BOATLOADS of money but run solo at EXTREME risk. What merchants typically do is buy high level Tier gear and materials in Black Cities, then move it to the main cities to see. And, in the main cities, they buy lower level materials and then cart them back. I did a little bit of merchanting, and if you've got a good route you can sometimes make 200k for a complete trip if you run solo with a horse. If you go with a group and use a donkey (slow, but loads of capacity) you can earn double to triple that. Merchants are HIGH risk though as they are typically overburdened and easy pickings for raiders/theives. But many guilds, especially those that own cities, will do what they can to keep merchants protected. When I was in beta, I was in a guild that ran normal trips to and from the trade cities, protecting any merchants who wanted to go. Doing this, kept the prices in our city much lower allowing us to craft more gear. Since gear is lost on death, Gear is the most important thing in the game and the key point of the economy. EVERYTHING in the game revolves around the Crafters and Gatherers at the base. You could have the best PVP team in the game, but it won't help you maintain land or profits without a good Crafting/Gathering support team to keep making you gear. Even if you are grinding money and buying gear, if it's not easy/safe for Gatherers, Crafters, and Merchants to do their stuff, you'll bottleneck and pay out the nose.
It's a pretty fun game, especially if you get a discord team together, but it takes a LOT to get a guild/group off the ground and to be able to do much in the more rewarding zones outside of "die". It's also a HUGE time-sink.
There's a few other aspects including a land owning aspect and a "premium currency trader" aspect, but those are very complicated.

Took a good look at it, although the gameplay looks fun, the ui and control scheme looks like it was designed for mobile, i dont really want to pay £30 for a mobile game

It says on the site that the game was designed to be cross platform with PC and mobile devices. If they used the Mobile UI for PC, then that's just lazy.

Re: Albion Online
I find the UI looks very sleek and smooth.
It's definitely ment for ease of mobile, but the game-play and depth of the game make it acceptable for me.

Re: Albion Online
A heads up, the Beta ends VERY soon so you won't get to play more than a week or so if you buy it nowish. Launch is July 17th for those who pay a boatload, July 19th for those who pay regular.

actuallly come to look at it again and watched a few gameplay before it looks like it might be what I like in mmo's. All I hope is that the territory feature is really fleshed out like they say it is

I havent gotten into it much, but from what ive seen and heard... territory is a pretty big deal and your guild controlling towns can mean massive profit.

Yeah I'd rather be patient and waste my life on Star Citizen when it'll be out. Bannerlord while waiting for it. But really? Albion Online? I mean I hate MMO's in general but beside ERP I can't see what's different in Albion with other mmo's.

By the time star citizen actually releases (if it even does) we'll all be dead. Albion is a mix of runescape and eve. Liking it so far 2 days after release.Dolth wrote:Yeah I'd rather be patient and waste my life on Star Citizen when it'll be out. Bannerlord while waiting for it. But really? Albion Online?
