Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):Make dropships great again by giving them back their sentry guns.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Prevents ayyliens from wrecking PO's cockpit and running away, without getting any punishment.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Since the moment when map was changed back to LV, i've noticed how easy it became for aliens to harass dropships. The reason is simple: it is now way harder to protect the cockpits because all gauss cannons are gone. Also, there's now a huge third entrance point in every dropship. It wasn't such a big problem on big red, because in 99% of the time FOBs were built on LZ1, which was located in the most northern point of the map. But now, because aliens hive is always located at north, every red doggo can kick PO's butt and safely leave. And lets be honest, surrounding the whole LZ1 with girders is a bad idea, because, well, every drone/spitter/upgraded hunter/ravager can turn said girders into a waste of time and materials. It could've been less of a problem if marines were able to build proper walls right at LZs, but i can't see it happen, because atmos is a bitch.
And no, shutters wont save you in every situation.

No thanks, I never liked the sentry guns, and it also feels restrictive on maps were the dropship would be facing a different direction. It's a dropship, not a gunship.
BUT, i'm all for the dropship having better "defensive" measures. Maybe the cockpit can get electric grilles or stronger shutters? How about a "bolt the cockpit door" button so Xenos can't pry it? I just don't think sentries are the answer. THOUGH, all those fluff things around the hangars may eventually wind up being used, so perhaps the current dropship is just a "skeleton" that is eventually going to be customizable with different modules. That is just a guess though.

+1 If not sentries, strap live Marines on the outside of the dropship and arm them with smartguns

The only problem with these would be the fact that we cant build anything but grilles/windows inside the dropship (We also cant put wiring there), so once all those shiny doors are melted by an alien drone (666) - its gg, unless those super shutters (tm) will only be vulnerable to strong acid. Also, making shutters more flexible would help as well (read: a dedicated button for each door) , because of how often you get a scenario where you got injured behind one door and a squad of angry red doggos behind another.TheMaskedMan2 wrote: BUT, i'm all for the dropship having better "defensive" measures. Dropships in lore are equipped with dozens of rockets. alongside machineguns.
The entire point is for UD-4Ls to serve as both gunships and dropships. The forward gauss guns didn't hurt anyone but survivors and careless xenos.
Coordinated xenos near the end of an assault can easily overcome the dropship's turrets, if you saw the Sulaco.
Maybe to make the pilot more useful, make the flight controls like the M56D and give them control of the nose-mounted gatling gun instead of automatic turrets?
This can only help improve the game, I'm not sure why the dropship turrets were removed in the first place +1
