Has anyone noticed?

Post by Nubs » 25 May 2017, 08:39

Has anyone noticed preds getting knocked out more often lately? Now perhaps this is confirmation bias, but for the past 4 days i've seen preds (including an elder) getting knocked out in the first hit of the fight by a simple bayonet and slaughtered. This has happened twice to me this week, when it used to happen a few times a month. the elder got knocked out by a guy with pj's and a bayonet 2 days ago, and another pred suffered the same the day before that. Was the rng just really in the marines favour? Did the bayonet get a buff? are we all scrubs that need to get good?

Stay safe, happy hunting.

I was one hit KO'ing preds with bootknives months ago, this isn't a recent change its probably just either rng hates preds or the knife has good KO chance.

Knife has a very good KO chance. On preds, especially since we no longer explode while unconscious, it means we're unable to retaliate because RNG. Honestly, I'm obviously biased in the situation, but I think it should have a different mechanic for preds, like the Xenos, if it removed the mask so that there's less armour, or if it instead had a different effect like a slowdown daze on preds.

Oh i agree, i'd keep knockouts but drastically reduce their duration for preds (we already get reduced stuns, so why not?) As it is, the marine who knocked you out can continually attack you in the head, stacking up knockouts till you eventually die.

TBH, I literally give marines weapons to kill me with in exchange of a fair fight without those damned things. If I see they hit the head, I step back and roar, sometimes trying to hint the target that a better fight would ensue if he wasn't such a coward and hit my chest~ (Especially since I can just do the same and one-hit decap with a scythe and similar, not even aiming etc)

Sidenote: I don't provide pred weapons and if I do, there's a nearby pred tasked with ensuring that it's their only worthy gift and they do not take further without dying for their greed \o7
+ I really wouldn't provide with anything else than spears unless allowed.

From my own personal experience I have to agree with what Sarah said: All of the above.

Knives, machetes and bayonets have, quite frankly, ridiculous KO chance. And while said KO chance is fairly reasonable upon humans (all things considered a blade to the brain is bad for your health), the KO rates are identical on predators as they're effectively modded humans (as opposed to xenos which are silicon life and therefore completely immune to KOs).

So... Yeah. Targeting the head of a predator is pretty much an easy win if you can land a few hits with a melee weapon. It's the marine equivalent to xeno tackle-spam or de-mask hugs, as you can keep chaining knockouts until they're dead.

No idea why you guys feel the pressure to honor duel every marine that comes up to you with a melee weapon.

I generally just spike blast them away so they get the hint. Honor duels are initiated by the predator, not by some marine who metas coming at you with a knife.

I duel quite a few people, but I don't consider most of my duels honor duels untill they actually get to be playing me well during said fights.

If anything, I'm sparring with them and using them as target practice for other preys must they be conveniently unable to live past my standards. (AKA: One-hit decaps and shits like that, which somehow happen too much for me).

Feweh, I know I'm no expert on honor here, but isn't shooting every marine you come across a bit poor in sport?

I know that some pred players say it isn't dishonorable, just frowned upon... But still, I feel like it might be pushing the line to shoot spikes into every marine you come across that looks at you funny. After all, the hunt requires a fair bit of self control, only unleashing the full fury of our tech in certain situations that permit it (such as lodge defense).

Elders may have more freedom and leeway, but I feel that elders should still try to set examples for the lowering ranking hunters and promote honor and bravery, and all that other sappy stuff.

He has a valid point.

Since we all know who are the marines that meta goes to our lodges and encourage duels.

you know, now that I think about it... How are we even supposed to duel marines if it is meta for them to do so?

Soft meats are just game to Predators. Duels make more sense between fellow Yautja, where they could duel one another for any number of reasons. Dueling marines, however, is like trying to get into fisticuffs with a turkey. It just seems kinda silly, let alone the fact that said turkey will have no idea how said duel would work, and probably just spend it pecking the dirt than really giving it any mind.

it is this reason why duels are such a rarity. Marines don't know anything about Yautja or their culture, so the concept of an honorduel would be lost to them ICly.

I kidnap the fuck outta the marine, strip him of anything I don't want him to use, drag him through my lair filled with dismembered bodies and blood streaks, throw him up against the far wall, let him scream that he's being murdered on his comms; and then I let him try and fight for his feeble life.

I think it's best to kidnap marines if you want to to duel now, it's far too likely that another party will intervene or ruin it these days.

I cringe every time I watch a group of marines standing around observing an "honor duel".

How would you kidnap marines? Cable restraints?

I believe you can make cable restraints. But if not, you could probably find some cuffs around the colony somewhere.

Course, you also need to use a predator trap to keep em from running as well, and you may even have to take their headset, otherwise the whole squad will come charging at you.

Kidnapping is a very risky deed, so you better pick someone who is worth it.

Kidnapping is easy. Grab a white truck, put some attachments inside, then paint the side with "Unga Dunga Free Attachment" and you'll rapidly get a whole squad's worth of people abducted ;)
