Rework Marine Briefing
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Make the initial briefing exclusive to officers (CO, XO, SO's, WO, PO's, SL's, etc).
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
This removes the chance of rounds being ruined by a botched briefing, either from rowdy marines or an incompetent command. Furthermore, it will lead to better CoC organization as the marines are removed from the direct equation.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Now, marines will be briefed on a squad by squad basis, by their respective squad leader. Which, means marines won't exactly know the full details of the operation, only their orders. Whereas, squad leaders and other officers will get the full picture and discuss strategies with the commander. Meanwhile, the marines will gear up, get their attachments, and talk to other departments during their wait for orders.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
[There are different ways of implementing this]
The first and easiest way, is to have officers now use the conference room for their private briefing. Then, have the squad leaders brief their squads in the current briefing room.
The second and harder way, is to rework the Almayer and create a smaller private officer room for briefing. Then, changing the layout of the current briefing room to be exclusive for squads.
I personally think the first method is more viable.

It is still a suggestion. Unless, you have a different definition of suggestion than I do.TehSpoderman wrote:er this belongs more in general discussion rather than suggestions imo

Re: Rework Marine Briefing
This is a personal preference by COs. You can already do this, and people do it. This is suggestions for adding things in it removing stuff, requiring a dev. This should've been posted in general discussion

Re: Rework Marine Briefing
a suggestion is more like a new feature or rework of an existing feature. here is an example of a suggestion viewtopic.php?f=59&t=10892

Re: Rework Marine Briefing
I'm talking about making this the default style of briefing, as I have almost never seen a CO do this. Also, regarding the new stuff category, I included in implementation the possibility of changing the ship layout.El Defaultio wrote:This is a personal preference by COs. This is a rework of an existing feature, unless briefing isn't considered a feature.TehSpoderman wrote:a suggestion is more like a new feature or rework of an existing feature. here is an example of a suggestion viewtopic.php?f=59&t=10892

Re: Rework Marine Briefing
briefing isnt really considered a feature in my opinion. you can do without it, though only the most foolish commander would do that.Trench007 wrote:This is a rework of an existing feature, unless briefing isn't considered a feature.

Re: Rework Marine Briefing
Actually not briefing the marines in any way at all, would probably be a violation of the COC or the job of commander. As, it is the commander's responsibility and duty to brief the marines. I'm not sure if the commander wiki page holds any authority, but I'll grab a few quotes from it.TehSpoderman wrote:briefing isnt really considered a feature in my opinion. you can do without it, though only the most foolish commander would do that.
"No army operates without a good leadership, an army without a chain-of-command is a defeated army, it's your job and duty to represent the United Americas Allied Command and cooperate with Weyland-Yutani to solve the situation down in the planet."
"The lives of your platoon rests on your decisions and abilities as the commanding officer of the ship to succeed in this mission. You will also be responsible for the lives of the men and women that fall under your command."
"You will also need to brief the marines on what they will be doing as in for example: 'Marines we have received a distress call from the research facility Solaris Ridge where we have been dispatched to investigate.' "
"As the Commander of the mission you are to be in RP at all times from briefing the marines to ordering squads around. Don't act like an idiot! "

Re: Rework Marine Briefing
but still, you are basically asking the PLAYERS a suggestion which to be honest doesnt belong here. it belongs in general discussion. suggestions are things that have to do with code, spriting etcTrench007 wrote:Actually not briefing the marines in any way at all, would probably be a violation of the COC or the job of commander. Re: Rework Marine Briefing
Depending on how it would be implemented, it could involve coding or creating new sprites. Plus, making a suggestion doesn't involve just the players, dev and staff also look at these.TehSpoderman wrote:but still, you are basically asking the PLAYERS a suggestion which to be honest doesnt belong here. it belongs in general discussion. suggestions are things that have to do with code, spriting etc

Re: Rework Marine Briefing
i know dev and staff look at these but creating coding and spriting so that briefing will be different is kind of a waste of time. briefing is fine the way it is. it doesnt need changing or be different.Trench007 wrote:Depending on how it would be implemented, it could involve coding or creating new sprites. Re: Rework Marine Briefing
This isn't a suggestion, more of a tactic. There is a officer briefing room if you want to use it.
