Bayonets On Rifles
Suggestion Title:
Bayonets On Rifles
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Allows marines to attach knives to the M41A and other guns in place of the flashlight (Or both if not considered over-powered).
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Allows said weapons to be more combat effective when faced in melee combat.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
When the weapon runs out of ammo, it is considered a useless paperweight unless more ammo is found. The weapons already do have a melee function, but are incredibly meager when doing damage. Once the knife is attached to the weapon, i propose that it does more damage than a person slashing with a knife in hand. The reason being is that bayonets tend to have a lot more heft to them when attached to a rifle and as such, result in more damage dealt (I'm not asking for a large buff, but a small one. If possible). If this idea is a favorable one, I leave it up to the developers and admins to decide whether it can be attached simply by clicking it on the gun or requires the use of a screwdriver, like the flashlight. This would make it so when a side arm and boot knife are missing, the rifle can be a good fall back melee weapon.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Updating the M41A sprite (equipment and world sprite if need be), making the knife screwdriver able if that route is chosen, and codes needed to increase the rifles melee damage.

this has been brought up a few times already, thus far the admins didnt seem particularly interested in adding it at the time but specific reasons were never provided

I actually think this is a neat idea. Maybe when the bayonet is affixed, the rifle cannot be placed on the suit-slot or in the backpack until the bayonet is removed.

RE: Bayonets On Rifles
Not being able to put it on the suit slot seems kinda overkill, but too big for a backpack sounds fine (I've always kinda assumed suit slot basically slinging it or attaching it to the exterior)
Being able to afix a Combat Knife instead of a flashlight seems to be the way to go for it, increasing the melee damage a rifle slap would do (of course, being on harm intent would point blank fire.) Though, aside from making it easier to cut down Resin without putting your rifle away, I'm not sure what good this would be.

The reason I don't think it should fit in the suit-slot is to avoid having a dominant strategy. Furthermore, you rarely(never) see actual soldiers walking around with bayonets on their rifles because it is prone to accidents.Davidchan wrote: Not being able to put it on the suit slot seems kinda overkill, but too big for a backpack sounds fine (I've always kinda assumed suit slot basically slinging it or attaching it to the exterior)

I'm not a military strategist, but typically bayonets are only attached to the end of a rifle when the soldier expects to be in close-combat. Afterwards, the soldier removes the bayonet and stores it in its sheath.
If a soldier wants to carry their rifle with a bayonet attached all the time, they could carry it on their back in the place of a backpack. This would actually make carrying your rifle on your back slightly viable.

Kamikaze.. Ehh......EHHHHH...
How would the marines be able to slash at aliens at close distance, even though their gun is set to shoot.

i assume it would be the same as it is now, you just click them while next to them and it attacks them in melee doing however much damage, if you had to go through a clunky menu to switch to using it in melee that would defeat alot of the point of it for me personally since i would want to affix the bayonet so i could melee if the gunfight suddenly turned into a knife fight in the heat of the battle.

You can't shoot from your gun if he is right next to you, unless it is set to harm intent, then you pointblank it.

Alright, poiting out, we are COLONIAL MARINES.
More towards spec ops than to meatshields, in this server, we are meatshields because of the game mechanics and player base.
I give a +1 to bayonets because we are Colonial Marines, we may be boarded, we board, we always fight close quarters or should, and we rarely fight on big grounds, IRL marines are -Supossed- to be landing troops, that mostly are in the ships, excepting U.S Marines, that still do landing operations, boarding and work along with the navy.
TL;DR?
We are not meatshields, and we fight close quarters. +1

I have a question about the whole bayonet idea. Would it replace your ability to attach flashlights to your rifle?

That's pretty nice, just having sprite with pinned knife to it and generically increase damage to the meelee suddently, having same function as knife

Think about the mechanics, when youre on harm intent you can point blank aliens, but if youre on a neutral intent, you can slash someone at close range. I like the idea, admins and coders should consider it IMOUnknownMurder wrote: Kamikaze.. Ehh......EHHHHH...

Razerwing, I left that idea open to the developers and admins. Personally I would like to have both the flashlight and a bayonet on a rifle so you can see where your going on the Nostromo and have the melee buff. However, if it is deemed otherwise, then there needs to be a compromise if the idea goes forth. For instance, the addition of a bayonet will give you a much better melee damage yield when blank firing is not an option, however you lose the ability to see in the dark from your weapon. Obviously for those that chose the light get the benefit from it and suffer the default rifle melee damage.razerwing wrote: I have a question about the whole bayonet idea.
