Current Survivor Attitudes?
Not sure what people are feeling about survivors right now so I thought I might as well make a discussion about whether people think survivors should continue be in the game, changed, or removed. Right now I think survivors are fun to play, for the first few minutes that is. Aliens like to rush survivors five or less minutes into the round and brutally murder them now since they don't have to infect them anymore. I would like to point out though that survivors did die a lot before the hugger combat change, but far fewer survivors I have seen since the changes.I have seen very few colonists survive before the marines even leave the Almayer than before the hugger changes happened. I don't know, it just seems that everything is being updated and survivors are still 2 years old without any changes, heck, it seems stuff more stuff is being taken from them than added. My criticisms have mostly been aimed at the LV map than the others, but I think the change with the hugger combat, the problems are still present.
What are your guys opinions of them? Should they stay the same? Be changed? Or removed altogether, thanks for commenting!
Even locker hiding isn't safe anymore....

I mean I gave up on caring about survivors after they proved incapable of not running face-first into mines, sentry guns and their innate ability to piss off marines like half a year ago

Lots of things were removed from them, and not much was given to help them it seems.

Re: Current Survivor Attitudes?
My admittedly brief time as a survivor has mostly involved getting rushed by runners and slashed to death. A couple times I survived long enough to get rescued, and then RP'd until the ship was overrun and either ran for the pods or was to close to the impact of the DS to matter.
Suggestions: some way to enforce 'no slashing' maybe? The runners that get me are often after I bopped it on the head with a crowbar or anything else I could lay hands on, and then I figure just didn't want to put in the effort of pouncing and whipped out the claws.
Some people love playing the role, so I don't think removal is needed, but they're more an RP tool for the CL/Marine Staff officers to deal with. If taken seriously they're a great one as they advance the meta knowledge of the marines quickly if they can be talked to.

Survivor is a gimmick. If you turn survivor on, you are rolling for the possibility of having a very exciting and very short life.
With the places survivors go now well known by even the meme runners, you cannot get building supplies to build a base and also get the equipment to defend it. There just isn't enough time. Oftentimes, you can't even do one of them.

Re: Current Survivor Attitudes?
My attitude: "OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD I'M GONNA DIE."
The ONE time I lived long enough to make it to the ship and not get shot was because a predator apparently rolled by or the aliens would've melted through walls to get me. It sucked being stuck in a box for like, half an hour though and it sucks that a lot of aliens meta stuff like opening lockers or whatever.
I'm not really a fan, because 99% of the time it's 'try to make it to suggested location to fortify/find other survivors/arm up except the runner is like OH NO YOU DIN'T and then slashes me like a vengeful ex on a tire'.

Re: Current Survivor Attitudes?
Right now I have survivor turned on because its fun and all sometimes... sometimes. But its not really worth it thinking about it. I'll last maybe 10 min if I'm lucky and after that I go and play something else. Id be better off turning it off probably and just being a marine.
Building an autism fort in the jungle that will keep me alive but bored wouldn't be fun, and if I survive the planet there's a strong chance Ill be killed by the CL because I'm not loyal to the company and I'll tell that to his face. I don't think would be worth it for the time invested honestly. That's really the best case of how things can go. Being rescued just to sit on the ship wouldn't be fun, and getting an Id and joining the marines, I'd be better off just being a marine from the beginning!
99% of the time I'll just be killed by a young runner who will tackle me and rip my face off before I can stand. If he doesn't kill me right away hes going to have broken my skull and that's death no matter what I do. Even if I don't get killed and I'm actually captured, well whats the difference? Its slightly better RP but I'm still dead as fuck, and it'll never happen anyway so who cares.
After writing this I've realized how dumb survivor is, it's actually much less fun then any marine round would be, and it can really just be removed. I'm disabling it in my settings at least.

Right now survivor got no chances to get infected and make it to ally. So you might as well disable them.

Re: Current Survivor Attitudes?
Hiding in a locker is the same as operation autism fort in the jungle to me. Whats the point of basically chilling for 30min in a locker just to do nothing the whole round when I could be a marine and get better RP and combat fun no matter what. Sure survivors have the chance for good RP after being saved but it isn't worth the risk of being mauled 5 minutes in and being out the whole rest of the round.
If survivors had more tools to survive and the risk wasn't so crazy high, maybe then the reward would be worth it. But as is, survivor is a pointless waste of your time 99% of the time.

Re: Current Survivor Attitudes?
-some aliens do check lockers
-it's boring to hide in lockers and what information do you gain by hiding in them
-best thing to do is get kitted out and slay as many ayys as possible, even killing just 1 is better than none

Re: Current Survivor Attitudes?
I've actually watched as a ghost as xenos checked every locker in dorms. Lockers are just as much a trap as anywhere else. Nowhere is safe at all. Getting a gun and killing everything that comes at you is your only chance.

Yeah, I was gonna say ayys love to open lockers. I survived in a coffin inside cargo once because I hid in the middle of crates and a friendly breadator was passing by (I heard the plasma cannon).

Re: Current Survivor Attitudes?
Survivors have a single purpose, to get rescued and tell the marines about the xenos and their hive, in order to skip the whole rp stuff about finding out what happened on the colony. That's all, you're a tool, a bonus for the marines. After you give the info to the CO/XO you can log off or enlist in the uscm.
For a survivor which role would be -survive- solely, we would need a really big map with a lot of z levels and stuff, like the cave fortress of certain ss13 mod game.
