The flamethrowers

Post by Rain7x » 10 Jun 2017, 01:46

Does anyone feel like our armor should be a bit more flame resistant? Currently you'll die in about ~6 seconds while on fire if you don't roll, which is usually impossible because you'll just be doused in more flames. I've started noticing marines using them more against preds and I wanted to see what you guys think.

I agree with this, but I was set on fire by a flamer today and a couple seconds later it put itself out. Which made me fear it a tad less.
Garth Pawolski, or is it Powalski?

I have had mixed opinions of the incinerator. When I use it as a marine I usually get a few kills and have done QUITE WELL against other breads in the past, (While still whitelisted) and have been killed when it was used against me just as easily. I mean if we had a better chance to extinguish I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Fire ignores armour. Our mobs actually have a passive flame resistance. But yes, it could probably use a little buff if it's still the ultimate pred killer besides SADAR.

Tbh, AvP1 shows a pred being burnt. It pisses off the pred a fuckton, but he can still go around angrily afterward.

Overall what I'm saying is: Yes flamers should be viable against preds, but preds are resistant and essentially have a skin that's super tough and provides protection against a lot of things.
At worse, I'd make it so burn damage affect preds differently:
- Only when a pred is extremely damaged from it does he get slowed (Fire started to rip and tear his muscles).
- If a limb is damaged too much by the damage, he may get slowed (But since fire would be less effective on limb damage, see above).
- Fire still hurts a lot, but doesn't affect as much speed / reaction.

Like that, at the very least, you won't insta-crit and it'll allow you to gain some distance and roll over.
PS: Just random ideas, I'm still waking up.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Honestly, if you get set on fire as a pred, you better turn on those bracers ASAP before you pass out in pain.

Getting knocked out is one of the most serious failures of a pred, because it allows marines to steal their loot and greatly shame them. With fire, you take so much damage so quickly (combined with the assumed bullets coming your way) that the chance of passing out is insanely high.

Roleplaying with marines is hard enough as is when marines get so terrified of preds and shoot to kill the moment one gets too close (or even shows its face to begin with), the fact that a marine could surprise you with a burst of fire makes interactions even more scary for the predator. Hell, I had one round where a marine noticed me cloaked in robotics, and his first thought upon noticing movement?

He fired flames at me. I got lucky and avoided it, but holy shit.

I wouldn't mind a little more flame resistance so marines are less willing to go murdering every pred in their path. It's already bad enough when you have people firing Sadars at humanoids despite how wasteful RP wise it would be (why would you fire an AP round at a humanoid person? Giant alien is understandable, but predators are just moderately tall, they aren't giants that need rockets to take down), we don't want people charging into lodges and burning it out to catch cloaked predators for their loot.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.
