Remember when we had hive sieges? Marines would try to attack the alien hives?
Well yeah, that doesn't happen anymore.
How every game goes:
1. Marines scout area, win a few skirmishes.
2. Fog drops, large battle at hydroponics, marines get steamrolled and forced back to Nexus FOB.
3. FOB holds out for a few minutes, ultimately withered away by repeated ayy attacks.
4. Marines barely make it back to Almayer
5. "Climactic" ending as aliens board and absolutely destroy the few remaining marines.
Every. Round.
There is no diversity anymore, no matter how many new barricades you add this formula won't change.

Shit now that you mentioned hive sieges I realized I havent seen any in a long long while.
On the contrary I ended up in an XRT as a spitter and found xeno gameplay to be extremely fucking easy. Just neurotox somebody and slash them to hell and once they get up keep spitting at them. b a l a n c e

Well, theres 100 marines to (usually) 20 xenos. They need means to deal with the massive amount of odds. Stuns speed and the ability to endure is the means.

It's not 100 marines to 20 xenos. If you take average round of 140 people. Let's say, 110 are marines and 30 alien players, who will get aliens sooner or later, so they will have at some point 30 aliens at a time.Aracino wrote:Well, theres 100 marines to (usually) 20 xenos. All numbers not precise.
Command staff: 5+2 POs;
MPs: 3-4;
Medbay: 4;
Engineering: 2-3;
Requisitions: 2-3;
Liaison: 1;
Roughly minus 20 people.
90 marines.
Divide by 4 = 22 per squad.
Minus those, who will go SSD and rambo and die alone like complete retards in first 10 mins = 18-19 per squad.
Most likely, two squads will be working on power and FoB and two will scout separately.
Those two will encounter aliens and sooner or later big fight will occur. Where 3 squads will be fighting, but at this point at least two of them will lose from 1/3 to 1/2 of marines each. With one full squad. Not to mention few aliens will keep roaming between marines checkpoints and on medevac/supply routes, finishing those lonely wounded, medics and stupid standards. Which will decrease numbers of marines rapidly and at the same time will bring some of those players to aliens side.
The main point is: Aliens never fight 30 vs 90 at a time. (those one to one hundred weird rounds when everything doesn't work as intended don't count) It's ~ 15 vs 20-30 on the ground and 30+ vs 30-40 TOP on the Almayer.
And don't forget that 90% of marines are like puppies when they are in groups less then 4 and every alien is quite deadly and pretty enduring if they don't suicidal much.

Most of this is really just poor planning/communication affecting the rounds much more on higher pop. With a very large force you should actually make outposts instead of just a nexus FOB. Having only a nexus is actually a really bad strategy now on high pop. Marines can win they just need to work together a bit more. Also the Normandy becoming a mainly dedicated fire-support now is a massive change and is affecting how rounds go a lot.

this is partially a symptom of how lv is designed as a map. all dat jungle, all those little passages, and the zillions of windows to break, premade holes in the walls of various buildings, the landing pads being in essentially open ground protected by flimsy wood and fences, tcomms and engineering located at the very rear of the map meaning that they inevitably get neglected and sabotaged(who can spare the soldiers to sit on their ass at the rear all round long? what boot marine joins the round to sit on their ass at the rear all round long? nobody), marines always penning themselves into hydro and nexus to get surrounded and worn down, and to cap it all off that juicy fog to keep nosy marines away and prevent them from putting up a fob on the riverbank or something, lv is xeno heaven right now

With the last updates, if you know your equipment and gadgets you can put a fight to the xenos, even steal a win.
