Remove Gun Recycling
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Remove the ability to feed weapons into the autolathe OR slash the amount of metal significantly, double the metal in metal crates to 100 to compensate.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Each handgun is worth 17 metal, each vendor has something like 40 handguns, each prep room has 6 vendors and there are four prep rooms. 24 vendors, 960 handguns, 16320 metal sheets. That is essentially unlimited for game purposes, unless you need to rebuild the Almayer from scratch.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Stops cargo techs from having to steal handguns or otherwise cripple Requisition's supply points.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Coding. I'd observe what effect this has for a few rounds and consider dropping the price of crates down to 8, even, if requisitions is suddenly starved for points OR increase the number of sheets available on the maps, and increase the number of things that Cargo can flog off for more points.

-1. This will be a huge hit to engineering. Just adding 50 more sheets of metal isn't going to solve anything. It still costs a decent amount of points to buy metal. It's much better for marines to be allowed this extra metal.

+1. I never do this as CT/RO. I consider it powergaming: guns worth much more than the metal they are made from, so ICly this doesn't make sense.

When your starting point is a free, infinite supply of a resource, eany alternative would be a step down.caleeb101 wrote:-1. This will be a huge hit to engineering. You agree that there is a problem with cargo techs having to rely on metal from recycled handguns instead of ordering it, though, and just disagree on my solution. Yes?

Aliens have a limitless source of acid. This gives cargo/MT's something to do and allows the Marines to build FOB's.

Re: Remove Gun Recycling
oh my god i didnt know this was a feature. so thats where theyre getting the metal for those super forts i have to attack when im playing alien. then why dont they send me more metal when im playing as marine engi? it just aint fair i tells ya
anyways uh, sure, people recycling their guns to make metal for barricades sounds dumb as hell.
if cargo needs to reserve the points for expensive crates by doing something this dumb, thats a signal that those expensive crates are too damn expensive, not that recycling a billion guns for their metal is a good thing
if this "gives mts something to do" its a signal that theyre a shitty job that need ACTUAL INTERESTING things to do rather than recycling a billion guns for metal
op even proposes making metal effectively cheaper and more plentiful by making the buyable metal come in larger amounts, and you guys are shitting on it in favor of trying to make LIVING HUMAN PLAYERS go around and VEND OUT BY HAND all these shitty guns for recycling??? are YOU going to volunteer for this? stop and THINK for a moment!

People. You're getting 2 WALLS WORTH OF METAL from a /handgun/. Don't you think there should ATLEAST be a nerf to that very system. +1 for some of the reasons stated
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. Re: Remove Gun Recycling
If people are against it being removed, I would be agreeable with the metal from weapons being slashed. Two to three metal, maybe. Not 17.

Re: Remove Gun Recycling
Give some alternative to the huge demand of metal other than absolutely crippling RO points. Each round I'm forced to either ask for ID permission, get someone to hack a door, or sneak in like some kind of criminal to steal bags of guns.

Re: Remove Gun Recycling
I'm not going to pretend to know the numbers behind the cargonia struggle, but this does wiff of powergaming. I'd really hate to see a nerf as massive as this hit the marines, but this needs to be fixed. We clearly need to adjust the cost of metal if this is the tactic CTs are using.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Re: Remove Gun Recycling
I think that doubling the amount of metal per crate, halving the cost, is a good start. It doesn't measure up to free and infinite but honestly, the pistol method is never exploited to its fullest because recycling each gun and getting the metal out takes a significant amount of time and is boring as hell. Usually you see a backpack or two of handguns recycled. Still, that amounts to 20-30 cargo points equivalent per backpack, currently.
Honestly, if you did double the number of sheets as I suggest, you could see an increase in the number of autism forts because Cargo can inject a massive amount of metal into the FOB more qucikly than they could by recycling guns; you could order 50 plasteel sheets or 500 metal sheets if the doubling is made, which might be excessive.

Re: Remove Gun Recycling
+1 on the idea of removing the pistol for metal thing but -1 on adding more metal to crates. 10 points for 50 metal isn't a bad trade off at all. As an RO Its easy enough to be able to swamp FOBs with sandbags and metal from supply points, without sacrificing on expensive crates.

-1. This is a feature. And you can not touch it.
It just allows engineers on the planet to get a lot of metal for buildings. And at the same time there are points for ordering rockets for Sadar.

-1 This is a feature that allows for otherwise unused weapons to be recycled. The Marine equivalent to plasma regen, except like most things it is not passive and requires dedicated time.

are yall voting against this going to volunteer to go around to every vendor to vend out guns and recycle them every round or are you just counting on getting others to do the dirty work for you? its a shit system. make metal cheaper and ESPECIALLY make sandbags cheaper

No, people don't steal shit from the prep rooms, that's power gaming.
What people do is, when a marine is dead and gone for good, or they see useless stuff around the colonies, they grab it and recycle it for later. Dead men can't use guns.

Re: Remove Gun Recycling
The only way to make a decent FOB (and not one that will be bum rushed in literally 30 minutes AT BEST), requires this method.
Doubling metal in crates won't matter as it takes forever to get those points back when you could be ordering other things like sand bags and plastisteel that don't get taken down as easily as metal structures.

I was showed of this feature, maybe, 2 weeks ago. And yes, if CTs and RO managed to came up with this, then there is a real issue with metal cost.

There are guns in the req office vendors in the back rooms. And there are a decent amount of them. You don't need to steal the weapons from 'dead marines etc'misto wrote:ha ha ha. dead men cant use guns, so lets melt down this military-issued government property weapons for raw steel, is very keeping with our precious lores you see

Most of the time those get melted down. Then command staff wonders why they can't get guns from req.caleeb101 wrote:There are guns in the req office vendors in the back rooms. And there are a decent amount of them. You don't need to steal the weapons from 'dead marines etc'
Then people still want explosives, Sadar. Then they want sandbags. Then they want metal. And your hurting on points so you go snag two bags of pistols for more metal.
