LV-624 In a Nutshell

Post by Evan Stelf » 23 Jun 2017, 22:02

Hello, today I will be talking about LV-624. It is currently the oldest map in rotation currently and I would like to talk about what exactly happens during most rounds of LV-624 if you don't actually play the game and just like to post on here. The first thing I will be talking about LV-624 will be when marines land. I don't want to talk about the Almayer since it is the marines ship on all maps. I also drew some terrible illistrations to show what happens if you understand whats going on in the pictures.

1.
Okay so when marines, usually they split into two main groups. Two groups go scouting and the other two groups work on engineering getting power up and making an FOB. You know LZ2 where marines land? On most rounds it either becomes a poorly defended area or becomes completely undefended! The main focus is usually on the nexus and LZ1, but most engineers do the nexus first for some reason. The two squads that are doing scouting at this time usually get bored and head to hydro/medical and stay there until the the big grey stuff they call fog, dissapears. Usually there is barely any defenses at all at hydro but they call it a firebase or something. Oh, and aliens by this point usually have all the monkeys and killed all the survivors so they'll just sit at the hive and evolve to T3s or annoy/kill a rambo marine. Red stands for marine movement and purple stands for xeno movement if you're lost or don't really care.

2.
For phase two of LV-624, most of the marines have gathered around hydro waiting for the fog to fall down. One squad usually stays at the nexus to guard against the evil air spirits or whatever. Now, during this time the aliens are chilling above the fog since the T3s can't go down tunnels. Xenos by this time have tons of walls and defenses at the river or shortly after the fog falls down. The marines, realizing that the fog is down, turn into crazy uga buga marines and charge into the xeno hive, about 15-20 paces above them. Both sides fight for about 10-25 minutes if you're on a good round. At the beginning of the fight, marines tend to do pretty well at pushing them back but large amounts of marines get friendly fired or get too injured to fight and run away back to the nexus or hydro. Medical marines at this point are overwhelmed and can't heal all of the limbless marines crawling back to them and the attack is a failure.

3.
The final phase. Marines have been pushed back to the nexus and the aliens take over hydro and the surrounding buildings of the nexus. The marine army is a band of different squads with no real leadership as they struggle to survive for a short period of time. Aliens tend to have 20-30 strong in numbers and with larva as backups. They either slowly take over nexus, or steamroll through it, I dont think I have ever seen any medium to that. The surviving marines (if any) have escaped to the Almayer and then the xenos either die or kill them all on their ship. Oh yeah also LZ2 is barely used before this and no one goes there.

So there you go, the majority of a round when playing LV-624, the main reason why I wrote this is just to say that in my opinion, LV-624 is pretty repetitive at its current state and you can aticipate it pretty well before stuff happens on the map. Please comment below criticisms, add-ons to this, or whatever you want I guess, I hope it wasn't too confusing. Seeya

id like to comment on the LZ2 problem. the problem is, the same one big red had, a console at the other LZ and not enough manpower to defend both. ive seen LZ2 and secure storage fobs completely bypassed by xenos, as they beeline for LZ1, where they can call the dropship and board the ship, because why would they bother with a load of armed marines, who arent standing in their way to the dropship "goal".
The man known as James 'patch' Alfonse. also gets called hotdog and "lemon.
