Ka'Torag-na' Setg'in - ( Deadly Lurker )

Post by Nightwolf901 » 09 Jul 2017, 02:39

Byond ID: Nightwolf901

Marine Name (so we know who you are, if you play alien mostly, state that here): Nyxia ‘Fifty’ Cals / Indigo Tifana

Name of the character you want whitelisted (The name your predator will use. This must match your in-game predator name): Ka'Torag-na' Setg'in - ( Deadly Lurker )

Are you familiar with the Predator Code Of Honor? Aye, Of course.

Character background (A very BRIEF description of your predator's background):

Ka’Torag-na’ was just a young blood at the time. She grew up with her father teaching her the basics of the Hish-Qu-Ten weapons and their armor. Telling her of the ways they’re used to hunt the serpents and why they are the best to use against serpents. Simply giving her an advantage in knowledge over her acquaintances. She enjoyed learning from her father about the Hish-Qu-Ten due to the way he explained it. It was appealing and laughable to her mind.

When she was off along from her tribal area she had taken her Father’s Plasma Caster and Wrist Scimitars to place herself within the forest to track anything. Simply her first track was a bird. Whenever she could practice she took the chance to do so, to hone in on her skills while tracking her target. Primally her focus was on her feet placement and hand eye cordination. She had to focus on those maneuvers first before honing in on her tracking skill. She spent most of her days that wasn’t with her father or spending time with her acquaintances on practicing these skills. To become the hunter she wanted to be.

She lurked jumping from long branch to long branch to follow her intended target before the bird would be let off by Ka’Torag-na. She had conducted her practice for tracking but her time would now be spent studying her land around her. One way of saying. ‘While one invades another, The one who is invaded has the advantage for they know the way of the land.’ Her father had taught her this phase and she dove into defining every piece of it. She learned that if you take someone into your land If you are outnumbered, You know the ways in and out. The placements of certain advantages. The idea of how to trick your target. All these meanings she studied and learned using herself as a test for different outcomes in the different areas she has observed.

Silence runs over as another day passes
Laughter follows behind Ka’Torag-na as the others thought poorly of her way of hunting. Although she didn’t pay attention towards them. She had no need to listen to them unless they were her superior, but even in those rules she would only listen to her father. Otherwise she would loosely listen to another. She did cause trouble during certain days but that was only because she wanted to practice more before her trial came.

Although one fact Ka’Torag-na has yet to prove to her acquaintances is that she does not tend to be peaceful to her target once she has them in her grasp. Recklessly going into combat to collect her win by any means. Within her plans, she does not accept any losing matter.

By all means… she’ll take any chance to acquire her victory.

How do you intend to play your predator (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your predator. This will weigh HEAVILY and frequently breaking from this MAY result in removal)?

I intend to play as a reckless Tracker, I plan to study my prey and play with them without my cloak and use the darkness. I will track their movements and attempt to fill them with fear or panic while using stun and run tactics to draw them towards a studied area for a fight. The only time I will actually use a cloak is in needs for dire actions during combat. EX: 5 Aliens tackling and took off the mask and weapon.

Why should we whitelist you?
I think I should be whitelisted for the reasons that I think I am fully capable of following the Predator Code and making the round fun for at least some people. I always want to engage with RP because I want to do something other than just run around and gun or just sit in one play for an hour or sit in ghost waiting two hours for a round to end watching as nothing fun is happening.

I’m also a very online player. I know that recently I’ve been off mainly since March through June and that was because of Schoolwork.

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)? No, In fact, I’ve never been banned.

Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?
No, at least I shouldn’t be unless someone bans for accidentally join and leaving the lobby screen.

Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or disobey the Predator Code of Honor? Yes, very much so.

So here goes.

The backstory was frankly difficult to read. There is a good amount of sentence fragments or full sentences that had little substance or meaning and made it a bit of a pain to read through.

In addition, a small note. The story seems to state that your pred was mocked for choosing the perfectly valid tactic of getting to know your hunting grounds and using your knowledge of them to your advantage - that's basically guerilla warfare 101, what sane predator would dismiss that idea?

The playstyle is equally hard to read and pretty uninspired, not bringing much new to the table. To a degree, it is also seldom unattainable - while it's honorable to avoid using cloak, in practice people greatly overestimate the Predator's power and don't realize that doing so will get you killed. Being tackled by five xenos also pretty much renders any action except blowing up moot as well.

Need to stick with -1 I'm afraid.

I did the split with the story because my last attempts were just paragraphs and even then people said it was hard to read. What do you want me to do that not paining to read. That's one thing I do not understand. While the laughing part might be wrong in my idea I take it to the general Idea that She's never attacked anything yet while honing on her skills.

While I know the play-style is kind of thaw'd out by others its kind of hard to come up with a completely new style. The thing I was trying to achieve here was the fact that She will bring anything to the ground to prevent a loss in her eyes, because to her losing a battle is the worse thing that could happen to her for the time.

I took a bit of time to fix the grammar in some of your story. Juxtapose this:
Nightwolf901 wrote:Ka’Torag-na’ was just a young blood at the time. She'd grown up with her father teaching her the basics of utilising both Hish-Qu-Ten weapons and armor. He'd tell her of the ways they’re used to hunt the serpents, and how this equipment had become designed to be incredibly proficient in fulfilling their role. This understanding gave her an advantage over her acquaintances. She enjoyed learning from her father about the Hish-Qu-Ten due to the way he explained it. It was appealing and amusing for her.

Whenever she had the opportunity to practice, she took the chance to do so, developing her hunting abilities. Her primary focus was on her feet placement and hand eye cordination. She had to focus on those maneuvers first before further honing in on her tracking skills, which she'd come to develop later. She spent most of her days that wasn’t with her father or spending time with her acquaintances on practicing these skills, slowly becoming the hunter she desired to be.

One day, she went off from her tribal area, taking her father’s plasma caster and wrist scimitars with her. She intended for her first target to be a bird, allowing her to progress her tracking abilities.
With this:
Nightwolf901 wrote:Ka’Torag-na’ was just a young blood at the time. She grew up with her father teaching her the basics of the Hish-Qu-Ten weapons and their armor. Telling her of the ways they’re used to hunt the serpents and why they are the best to use against serpents. Simply giving her an advantage in knowledge over her acquaintances. Difficulty reading seems to relate to your sentence structure. The content itself is fine, but the way that you've conveyed your ideas has resulted in a lot of grammatical errors, and some things seem loosely connected.

Not just grammatical errors, even I was shit at english before and I never really judge people by their grammatical mistakes much more than the actual story. I like stories, and I like seeing good stories. But people really overestimate the predator's power, I could whoop 2 press ass with a machete in a honorabru battle if Netjesus is in my side.
Going to the intent to play most predators lure marines or capture them if needs be to the place they want to fight and I've seen lots of predators do that so this is really genuine play style with a bit of going ham bam.
You're a good player from what I heard but I never get to interact with you...I will actually change my vote to neutral for now. I wanna see you more in action though.

Since everyone has been inspecting your story to death, I'm going to be pointing out other things.

Your intentions seem rather realistic, although I was a bit skeptical about your no cloak policy until I saw the "using in dire circumstances" which seems fair enough.

As for who you are, I know Nyxia Cals, mostly from us working together in the Medbay. As well as that one time I was a staff officer and you got in trouble with the Liaison as the Delta Specialist. In addition, you also took part in the Guild Life role playing game that Kavrick is hosting, although you dropped out before the game really took off, you still had some good role playing there. Based off that and my interactions with you. You do have the Role-playing aspect down and you can remain in character. Which is probably the most important part about this process.

I'm a bit hesitant, but I'm giving a +1, mostly on the fact that I trust you will play by the rules and do your part if you get whitelisted.

When I need coffee and the moral duty of reviewing apps to force me to get through your backstory, it's not a good thing. There were grammar mistakes EVERYWHERE. The little I could discern was the use of a style of Yautja from Mortal Kombat of all things, and that she uses her father's gear and follows birds around, probably for nefarious purposes. It's not like Xenos, and most other prey, are land-based and it would be much more useful to learn to actually TRACK, and not walk behind someone menacingly, and other Predators laugh at her because she...I dunno, because she hunts things like most Predators do? Learning the hunting ground and stalking targets is pretty basic stuff.

Your playstyle has no quirks. It's just normally hunting people but with the addition of using a plasma caster on them out've nowhere to stun people then run away chuckling about how you totes pranked them. Leading people to prepared fighting areas is common, and you don't seem to know how to go about it. Stunning people then running away laughing at how you pranked them just leads them to walk away, as is the common response. That's the best you'll get. The worst is an ahelp detailing how you used a plasma caster out've nowhere on someone and you needing to be investigated for it.

Your forum activity is passable.

No, I don't think you should be whitelisted. You've presented a shit app and showed lack of innovation or thought in your playstyle.

I didn't say a new playstyle. I told you it should have a quirk. Something that marks it out as, at the very least, different.

Because I did. The story was a painful read that required hyping myself up for.

Maybe you should focus on quality over quantity. Making a shit pile bigger isn't going to make it smell any better. Making good perfume, and then selling it en-masse, means everything smells better, for an analogy.

I feel like the content of the Pred app doesn't matter, its the amount of effort shown and the maturity and readiness of the player putting forward the app, Nightwolf while sometimes salty, does generally RP well and doesn't cause shit in the community or be a shitler ingame, this app isn't brilliant but I can definitely tell effort was put in and I think Nightwolf is capable of handling the role. +1

While I believe this way of looking at predators apps. I also believe that the capable of understanding of the lore and doing it well is present within in the backstory and the playstyle. Also, a big problem I have myself is when the person them self doesn't admit that the their predator is standard. When they don't realize I feel as if they aren't ready for the role because they don't know what is infact a standard predator. It drags me to believe they aren't ready for the role even more.

Also, I have little to no idea whom this applicant is. I'm sorry.
Something a lot of people are on the fence of lore wise. Is how the whole "parental" system works. What's mostly accepted is that the males mate then go away. If I'm honest it's a debatable topic so I won't pay attention to it. The grammar mistakes are pretty much constant, but they're common in literally everyone. I usually tend to get pissed when people confused the "there & they're" etc. The big issue is how you have to describe "practicing" as I think of how it works, and I'm more then sure that that all Predators are rigorously trained by an instructor. Considering the circumstances I cannot judge based on this, due to the fact as said before it's a really debatable topic.

The point is you chose a very, very on the rails choice in the story. Thus your story faltered due to little to no actual reasoning behind it. Other then it exists. No clarification, nothing. I'm going to to give a neutral stance on this application.

I hate to be an asshole, but every time you've been in my squad you've run off to do something that isn't fight or help.

You've done paperwork on the ground, run away to RP with predators even after everybody has said multiple times to "Not go run off and say hi to the big death machine stalking us because we have to protect the FOB", or you just straight up run away from the squad and do your own thing and it's hardly arpe. Maybe I've caught you on poor days, but I still have yet to see you act as a cohesive squad member without running off and doing something stupid OR just running away from the squad to fight on the front.

That kind of "Run to the front or get bored and print 50000 complaint papers in the chapel planetside as xenos are attacking nexus" seems like the wrong type of attitude to play predator as, I think.

That being said, I pretty clearly don't play as much anymore, and maybe this has been a few isolated incidents and I have no idea what I'm talking about, but this is just what I have seen.

I've been more generally sticking along side other people and doing what the squad needs and even diffusing situation that other squads cause that is messed up. That again you've haven't been playing alot as you said above but don't say you hate to be an asshole. Just state what you want. Nothing I can do to change the way you think.

I too noticed the whole "Opening a complaint office as a marine" thing, and I admit I am not all that impressed with it.

This is the same as when you wasted cargo points on ordering dresses and goofing off, only now you are doing it in the middle of a combat zone as a grunt.

Look, I know that being a marine can be a fair bit boring at times, let alone if you have FoB duty, but that doesn't mean you can go off and do things like turning the chapel into an office and playing make-believe. How many real marines do you see going into live-combat zones doing that? None, because they are adults and thus expected to ACT like adults.

If you want to open a complaint office and do paperwork, go as a CL and do that, because that is what they were made for.

There is a RIGHT way to RP, and a WRONG way to RP, and what I witnessed has certainly put me on the fence with this app.

Generally the only marines that Role-play with each other are the ones who know each other and most of the time marines want to shoot preds. Hell I've once intervene between a firefight to stop a pred and marine fighting due to stupidity. Its because I want to start a small role-play of the sorts there. Yes I go off as a grunt because People need each other and not just brainless monkies sitting in one place. Like FOB duty marine. Would you A: Just stand there watching as engineers do everything and you're sitting there doing nothing? B: Ask to help one of the other Squads or C: Hope someone you know is in your squad and try to start smalltalk?
EDIT
ALSO, Why are you comparing real-life to the game? It's already known nothing in game is like real-life other wise all marines would be able to use a defib. Medics would be able to do Combat Surgery, and all that sort. So You're putting up a fake point there.

Ok then.

Give me one good reason as to why an ordinary marine would set up a complaint office in the FoB.

Why are you going so hard that I try to come up with creative ways of roleplaying?
