A idea about jobs and such.
Suggestion Title:Jobs You have to work for.
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):So I have been pondering on this idea for quite some time and after talking it over like I normally do with players on the server I have come to the conclusion that as a regular player it would be nice to have no new players join as high up Jobs and not know what the fuck to do so.. I propose that there should be a timelock. (I'll use a example given to me by some players )This would work by having ,say atleast three days playing on the server to unlock Lo and longer for higher ranks.( These will probably be changed but now just give me some feedback)
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): The benefits of this would be that it would stop new players joining as a commander or other high ranks which in turn means that you would have more players knowing the basics such as Radio keys and how to assign people before they would be able to become such high ranks. Then leaving the high ranks to Experienced players to show the new players how it is done.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):Well for each X amount of time you play , you would earn a job that would go higher and higher until you have unlocked all the Top Tier Jobs.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): I haven't got a clue on how to implement this so I will leave that down to you lot.
Also Apop when we don't have logistics anymore and it's auto assign this would make more sense when that is added but until then it can be in the waiting list ?
Your Feedback shall be appreciated.

RE: A idea about jobs and such.
Agreeing so much.
Newbies tend to go to Leading positions because for reasons (maybe because they think it's easy and have the power?).
Even on the normal Servers like Yogstation, Baystation, Paradisestation and HippieStation.
How I identify newbies? Writing everythinglow caps, failing at coordination, getting jobbaned.
~I have a passion for hating people that write low caps. UGH.
So yeah. Suggestion is this:
Alien

We only have 3 tiers...and on the aliens going -1
Marines is fine..but limiting xenos due to new players is unbalanced

RE: A idea about jobs and such.
i'm fine with it just being marines as it would stop a lot of new players going SSD as commanders and Lo's or a Mp which is goodcoroneljones wrote: We only have 3 tiers...and on the aliens going -1

I agree with this suggestion though.
It would be good if Marine jobs had a day restriction, but i agree with Coronel that it would be unbalanced if Xenomorphs their tiers had restrictions.

Damn, this is what i was thinking about before. Other servers use this system, and it works fairly well. Definitely something we should add in.

Re: A idea about jobs and such.
Yes please since I NEARLY had to overthrow a commander (kinda did at the start of the round with all the confusion and someone accusing me of mutiny) due to us having a noobmander and with me and another LO just ordering marines around. +1 (he went SSD so it was all fine and dandy...till we lost I think)
For the aliens just no.

Instead of how many days they've played, it should be done in hours on the server

Yea, lol, i remember at one point, I joined a whole bunch of over-time servers, just to clear up all the time-locks.

Doing it per hours played would be a lot better if we are even considering this.

Days, hours generally i'm happy as long as in the end we get something like this because it would stop shit command staff from happening which would be nice.

All it'd really do is deter shitty griefers. A timelock won't fix shitty command, it'll just delay it. All the shitty command right now will still be able to do it, and future shits will be able to do it.Mr. Penguin wrote:Days, hours generally i'm happy as long as in the end we get something like this because it would stop shit command staff from happening which would be nice.

Re: A idea about jobs and such.
I'm actually against this, mainly because it's not needed aside for perhaps Commander.
Something you all need to realize is this server is very action oriented with light RP elements to guide the action along.
This system of unlocking jobs/higher gear works great on servers that are heavily RP influenced and require a large variety of job's to function the station. However with CM there isn't a large array of jobs that are non-essential. Every job on CM is essential and requires a healthy amount of players active.. Just look at LO's for example, sometimes you spawn with no LO's at all.
If you start limiting certain jobs like Commander/LO/MP to players based on time/skill you're cutting down on the basic supply of players needed. There just simply isn't enough job's to start locking up for no reason. Forget Aliens completely because not having certain aliens unlocked simply because the higher skilled/higher playtime marines haven't died yet would be crippling to the aliens.
CM mechanics just don't compliment a Unlocking/Skill Unlocking system. The server strives on having a healthy balance of readily available players for every role possible. If you start limiting certain players to key roles the general game-play will suffer with certain positions not being filled.
I understand where everyone is coming from. It sucks when Joe Noob becomes LO, he's slow and shit.. but at the end of the day it's better to have Joe Noob there than nobody at all.
A more technical reason why special locked jobs wouldn't work is simply the mechanics of beginning rounds. You'd have to change the whole "Spawn and get assigned", because LO's would just bypass any locked jobs or hand out similar access.
TL;DR - CM mechanics don't compliment a unlocking/locking job system currently and it would effect over-all game-play for the general populace.

Re: A idea about jobs and such.
The though would be, to limit out commander and MP.
Really, we should probably just look back at this, once we are in the alpha codebase...
Locking for now.
