Zombie Containment Strategies

Post by Zilenan91 » 08 Aug 2017, 21:58

So these things are hard to keep in one place. They can claw open a door, not caring if it's welded or bolted, and they revive after death meaning you can't just forget about them after you shoot them to death.

I've kinda spammed this image in a couple places before, but this is a design that I've tried in past tests that has worked very well. I like to call it Zombie Auschwitz. What possible improvements could be made to it, if not scrapped entirely and another better one is found? I found this completely by chance in an attempt to contain zombies on Big Red and it worked spectacularly to the point that some of the only zombies remaining on the map that weren't gibbed from CAS and C-4 were dead in my containment.

My main thought process behind this was the use of girders. However, apop has said that zombies CAN damage girders with their swings now so this not a longterm defense unless you have a lot of metal to keep replacing the girders and a lot of flamer fuel to keep the pyre burning whenever they rise again, and too many will make containment completely impossible without constant fire.

The way this is intended to be used is to toss a zombie inside by crowbarring up one of the girders, putting a burst of flame on the corpse pile to prevent any from reviving and attacking you right as you open it, then moving the corpse onto the Z icon, and wrenching it back down where it used to be. If they revive inside, have a flamethrower burn the tile the corpses are on through the girders (due to flames passing through them) and this will kill them rapidly. For best results, take the flamethrower yourself as an engineer so you don't have to rely on anybody else to use one.

However won't someone get infected by handling a infected corpse? I just see a slight risk for the person throwing the bodies inside but otherwise it seems sound. Though when to set it up is the real question.

This will eventually become Admin-bombed, but I hope to see this in action.

Why not have 4 turrets around a tile which is surrounded by barricades and have them inside there? Or would that be too slow?

Dunno, but I don't think people moving bodies will get them infected, and yeah it is a risk to go near the pile but if you want to move a corpse in there all you gotta do is burn the bodies and then open up the girder while there's a fire on them and then toss it in so it kills anything that might revive right as you open it.

Edit: It also bears mentioning that this thing CANNOT handle an infinite amount of zombies. I'd say the max would be around ten to twelve before you can no longer safely open the thing up and put more in, and there is always the risk of them breaking the girders, and you can't repair girders either to my knowledge so these things will progressively take damage from respawning zombies.

Engineering fucks off too early in the round and take all the good stuff with them. Same with Requisitions.

Just throw them all on the planet and evacuate. Zombies can't fly.

How to actually legitimately take care of zombies

Important notes

1. gibbing removes

2. they process reagents

These can give us the following strategies

1. Apply enough sophoric so they fall alsleep, or they fall alsleep after getting revived, as the reagents won't be processed while they are dead. Throw them out of the ship somehow.

2. Throw them back on the planet, use CAS to gib them, removing them from everything.

Put them into a morgue slab, block it off with something like a table, profit. (It really works, admins even said VALID)

That seems really non-interactive though, there's no chance for it to fail unless someone flips the table (and then they can just use girders) and it's kinda shitty.

On that point, you can buckle a zombie into a rolling chair then insert the zombie buckled into this chair into a morgue slab and when he revives he is unable to get out of it anymore unless someone lets him out.

Like right now the mode is kinda busted in a couple ways because if marines want to never die all they'd have to do is just wall themselves off and since zombies can't do dick about walls they would never be able to get at them without admin help, so if you can find ways to break the game like this please let it be known so they can be fixed.

want a good way to robust a few zombies if they are bad? Drill. Get drill from robotics, aim for head on zombie. Knock out said zombie. Easy kill. DOn't get bitten.
