Emerald Blood - Commander Application
Byond ID: Emerald Blood

Most assuredly.
Why should you be whitelisted?
I'm a player who wants to put the role-play and quality of the round above all else. I want to try to make rounds richer in role-play with the abilities given by the Commanding Officer. I have no desires to be Commanding Officer with the goal of winning. While I will try to lead the crew of the Almayer to victory, I'm not going to be addressing orders with the intent of optimal Xeno-crushing gameplay. In my eyes, I see a high role-play loss much more enjoyable than a low/medium role-play win. My goal, as CO, is to add high quality role-play into the round as well as try to make small changes on how rounds are usually played. I would try to make sure each squad has different roles each round, instead of Alpha being on FoB as they tend to be, for example. I would also like to try to attempt to mix up the tactics from round to round, such as different FoB locations and attack routes. Personally, I try to avoid executions and battlefield executions, though I do understand there are times these are necessary. I also am a Commander who values the lives of the Marines who are fighting; as such, I am going to attempt to save as many men and women as possible, though there will always be some sacrifices in the name of freedom.
I should make a note; I've been playing in a lot fewer rounds since I've become a Mod, as I've mostly been focusing on the work side of CM. This means you may not see me as often during the rounds, but I'll take that as a reason if you wish to vote no for me. I wish to have a Commanding Officer whitelist so I can make the rounds I do get to play in that much more enjoyable.

The biggest reason I'm personally voting yes is due to your desire to make the position more of a RP centric one.
Secondly? I've seen you OOCly work with people and I have zero doubt you'll run things the way they should be.

I don't think I can +1 or -1 this yet. I've seen you at round start run around with officer armour for no reason other than you could, and I personally have seen you as XO once but I won't hold that against you, timezones and all.
What do you do to plan on spicing up the round with RP? Just give me a gimmick.

Re: Emerald Blood - Commander Application
Yeah, I felt compelled to say about the same thing. If we cut away the filler from your app it's really only three things
- I'm gonna roleplay
- I'm gonna do diverse things
- I'm going to value marine lives
Pretty much every CO says this, no one says theyre not going to rp, want to do the same strat always, and will devalue lives.
One minor nitpick for me is that you want to switch squads around from their "usual" spots, which I'm not a fan of as players do after all voluntarily choose their squads taking into consideration what they "usually" do, I don't think Delta would be the same squad if it was the one always chosen for FOB duty. So no one's really being harmed against their will if alpha squad always gets FOB duty, since they can always just choose to pick a different or random squad instead
So anyway, either provide a gimmick you'd want to try, or go more into detail on how and why your character would act the way they do as a CO

Re: Emerald Blood - Commander Application
I know that you are a mod so this is probably a dumb fucking question but
What do you do if you have to log out at roundstart?
As far as your app it looks good if a bit cookie cutter.

You're great as a mod, maybe even could be an admin, but I don't see you playing enough to be good for CO.

@El Defaultio
I like to try to give more of a backstory to the events leading up, which is one thing I feel is always lacking in rounds. The best time to really be able to give a good speech and story is at briefing. I like to make up possible reasons for the colony to go dark, say maybe a viral outbreak, possible pirate raid, or other scenarios that allow the marines to make some talk about before they hit the ground. While obviously, they're just Xeno on the ground, it's fun to let the marines imagine that this could be the real cause and have them prepare for something along those lines. I can also use this to tell marines to try to ignore the "unknown aliens" for now until we figure out what the real reason for this is (which is obviously, the Xenos). I would also like to set smaller goals for some squads. Say that I order one or two squads to search the colony for any items of value to be returned to the ship. Maybe after noticing that we're having a lot of wounded marines, I would order a squad to secure all items Medical and have them brought back to the FoB. There are some more specialized cases I'd like to try, but it would require certain things to fall into place. If/When it comes to a Xeno boarding, I'd like to try to avoid the trope of everyone just running to the Self Destruct room to defend. I'd like to use areas such as the hangers, upper medical, or even places like the CIC to make a final stand. While it's not as strong as the S.D. hiding hole, it allows the CIC to hold so orders (or maybe a final farewell to the crew) can continue to be given out while we fight off the final attack. I also tend to personally back Wayland-Yutani and I'd like to be able to work with the CL during my operations and incorporate their input into the round. Maybe we can get an alien back alive or secure certain relics from the caves for W-Y. Maybe have a special-ops mission of a few marines to go grab a predator mask from the caves, for example. A quick note on the armour; personally I think the acting commander should be well presented for briefing so they need to appear strong and ready for anything. I like to use the armour during in-person speeches as a visual thing more than anything else, I take it off afterwards (unless I get busy and forget, oops). Marines are all geared up for combat, you want them to see you as someone ready to lead the charge, figuratively, and not someone who just wears silk robes while they go out doing all the hard work.
@Challenger
I feel ya, but there isn't much that much to really go off of. I say the reason I personally feel like I should be allowed manning the ship under the rank of CO, even if it's something others have said. One counter-statement to, "I will value marine lives," I've seen plenty of CO say that anyone falling back will be detained, forcefully thrown back onto the field, or denied access to return to the ship for any reason. I don't believe in this as a personal view and would never support such orders, so I believe that does at least give some insight on how I would play. You can request a specific question or you can see if my answers to El Defaultio help boost your confidence.
@NoahKirchner
The first thing to do is make sure you actually have the time to play as the CO before you pick it. You really don't want to have to leave in the middle of your current operation, but if I have to then I want to first address the staff and make sure the second on command is read to take the helm. Next I want to address all crew of the USS Almayer about the shift in command so orders can continue to flow smoothly, and lastly, I would ahelp (yes ahelp, even though I'm a mod with access to the staff channel) that I have to be leaving for ___ reason. Obviously, an important reason and not just, "I'm bored." Wouldn't want to have to ban myself, now.
@Roland410
Thank you and I respect your possible worries about me as a CO. While I will not be the most amazing CO when I first start off, I have been reading up a lot and watching other command shifts to try to get as solid as a foundation as I can.

You're a pretty good moderator, and I've seen you around before as a SL and I think you are pretty decent at it, of course commander will probably be a lot harder, but I think you can do it.
