MP Job Ban Appeal

Post by Tornadium » 20 Aug 2017, 21:13

Your Byond ID: Tornadium

Character Name: Tornadium Axonium

Type Of Ban (Job-ban, Timed Ban, Permaban): Job Ban MP/CMP

Admin who banned you (if known): Adminbot (Unknown)

Total Ban Duration: Permanent

Remaining Duration: N/A

What other servers do you play on? : None right now, previously TG

Are you now or have you been banned on any of them? : Yes, Permanent on TG. Kicked someone from my eve alliance (Pandemic Legion), said person happened to be TG admin.

Reason for ban (If you have a Permaban, it should be the EXACT MESSAGE YOU GET WHEN YOU LOGIN with the Error code that looks like this: X##XXX##. If you do not provide this EXACTLY you can't be unbanned): Banned from Chief MP - Went SSD as an MP and never came back, Also had a lethal weapon in code green. by Adminbot (Friendly Robot) on Thu, August 17th of 2017

Link to previous appeals for the same ban (if applicable): N/A

Your appeal, including evidence (screenshots, etc): I completely understand the reason for the ban, not questioning it's purpose. On the date in question my gaming time was abruptly interrupted by needing to take my child to the ER, I was more concerned with my child's well being and therefore wasn't really thinking about the correct cryo procedure when leaving my PC.

Totally kosher with the ban reasoning, happy to wait out any kind of timed ban on the role if required. Will try to make sure it doesn't happen again but real life emergencies will always come before 2d spacemen.

Thanks for your consideration.

Edit: Just an update since I forgot it in my original post, I wasn't fully aware of the rule change regarding MP/CMPs not being allowed to carry their regulation sidearm anymore. Spoke to staff to clarify the rule change and now fully understood.

From my interactions with Tornadium he's been nothing but reasonable and pleasant when I've spoken to him as a mod, and in all regards he's a good player. I find the excuse given completely reasonable and understandable, besides which MPs going SSD is never a disaster anyway, as they can easily be cryo'd and the role freed up. I'd never encourage it, but the jobban wasn't issued for the usual critical MP issues, i.e marine law breaches. I'd usually issue warnings for the lethals situation rather than a jobban, especially considering the player has no prior notes pertaining to alert breaches.

In short, I trust this player not to screw around. They've been on the server for a while and only received one note in that time, present appeal excepted. I'd have zero problem removing this jobban.

Question: You're banned from TG because you kicked them from your EVE alliance? While I've never been to the server, I find that pretty hard to believe as the true reasoning. Though, side note, I was part of Pandemic for a bit back when I played EVE.

To the main topic, I think we could let this one get lifted. While I've never seen you personally, you don't seem like a bad player. Do you know what time in the round this happened? For future reference, if you have to go for an emergency you can just ahelp about it so you don't get in trouble.
Ban Appeal Users: If I've lifted your perma ban and you're still unable to log onto the server, send me a forum PM regarding it and I'll work to get it fixed in ~24 hours.

Emerald Blood: CM's mommy and the only head staff who does anything. Even though I hate you all sometimes, I still love you.

I believe we should give them the benefit of the doubt (of course) and accept their story. Going by their notes they haven't made any significant mistakes as an MP, have done nothing showing a fundamental misunderstanding of the role/rules of MPs, and haven't done anything to suggest they would make those mistakes in the future. It's absolutely understandable to abruptly leave the game for real life emergencies, or even non-emergencies.

Their lack of notes doesn't seem to be from lack of playing, as they've been on throughout the intervening months (since their first note). When asking "Did staff make an error in applying this ban?" the answer is "No", which would suggest the ban should stay except for the question "If not for the trip to the ER, and thus the sudden SSD'ing, would this player be jobbanned from CMP and MP?", another answer of "No". It doesn't make sense to attempt to force players to value the game over the aspects of their life, so tornadium should be unbanned.

If a player were to show frequent inconsistency with their ability to carry out the rounds they start (SSD'ing instead of playing the round out), it would be sensible to ask them to/make them play a less important role so as not to affect the other players in the round (which is why we have SSD jobbans in the first place). Trips to the ER are inconsistent events and will likely never be a problem for this player again, or so rarely that it's inconsequential.

Tornadium- Something you might consider if another situation forces you to leave the game abruptly, send out a quick ahelp to let the staff know what's up. Of course it doesn't take precedence over tending to your child, but for lesser matters a few simple words would most likely save you from having to make a ban appeal at all.
TLDR: Go back and read it. I spent time writing that, ya know.

As long as he remembers we've got rules and regulations in regards to going SSD and what some roles can and can't do I'll support it being lifted

Long story short, There was an admin crusade led by the main banning admin Ausops who was a part of Sniggerdly in Pandemic Legion. The Head Admin (Kor) at the time lifted something in the region of 9 sec/general bans that were incredibly shitty and forced, I'm pretty sure it's saved in the archives of their forums if you feel the need to look. It involved admins forging logs, lying about events (An admin Scones basically outright lied about events and was thankfully proven false by logs. I unfortunately don't have IRC logs but he did openly admit he falsified his claims in an attempt to get rid of me). Kor warned me that once they stepped down I was basically going to be gone and them lifting bans was causing too much internal admin drama. I should still have the PMs on my account between myself and kor if needed.

He eventually was unblacklisted from Pandemic Legion but I have no faith of ever going back to TG, every time I contested the bans (which were rightly lifted) more admins got annoyed that they had to deal with the situation. I played on that server for years prior to those events with perhaps three notes and one was voluntarily reporting myself for making a mistake with the engine. It's an incredibly long story but happy to pop into Discord to explain it in detail if required.

On a side note, You should totally come back to Pandemic Legion. Happy to vouch you into Sniggerdly if you're ever interested in playing eve again.

Yeah I totally understand, I would usually PM an admin to at least explain that I needed to leave but I was too focused on my child.

If required I'm more than happy to wait out a duration of time before the ban gets lifted, It's no problem at all. Whatever you guys think is best.

It's fine, what you said is all good. I was sceptical at first because some people like to make up random reasons besides the real ones for why they got banned to try to push the blame onto others. Your story seems pretty real so I'm inclined to believe you're telling the truth here. I support a job-ban lift as you don't seem like a malicious player and I don't see it fair punishing you for having a real life.

As the banner in question i would be more than willing to give them a second chance at this, Their reason for leaving abruptly seems entirely legitimate as i could imagine if i were in a similar position i would forgo all spessmans for the sake of my child. Good parenting shouldn't be punished with permanent removal from the ability to stun baton marines for ones own amusement!
