Presenting Jordan

Post by Chuckachu » 24 Aug 2017, 13:24

A little blurb that popped into my head and would not leave till I got it out. Its a mess as I've not written anything in a long time. But here it is to get it out of my brain.

While the ready alarms echo down the hallways as the marines awaken from their cryo sleep Jordan hums while her own version of suspended animation gear. She smiles as she picks through the medical closet for an outfit, “Oh there is another nurse full scrubs outfit. That old skirt one is very restricting and torn to ripping.” She nods to herself and quickly gets dressed tilting the silly nurses hat on her head slightly before heading out of the room. Outside the room Doctor’s milled about resetting their self-assigned work areas to their personal preference grabbing meds or tools here and there. As she set down on the swivel stool for the chemistry station she noted that for once the security was doing their job and there were no Marine first responders begging for pain medication before she was sat down.
Chemistry from her programming was a exact science but she slowly started to notate little variances from the proscribed routines due to the marines and some of the Doctor’s idiosyncrasies and the quality and quantity of her resources. Refined plasma while available was a very finite resource along with pill bottles, neither would get restocked during a operation and sometimes not even in between so she could not be frivolous with either resource. The marine’s desire for large quantities of everything from Bicardine or Tricodizine to the highly controlled Peridoxan was tempered by the fact that she had at least four field medics and usually four Doctor wanting the same exact thing and usually at the same time.

All was rather quiet despite a few marines coming in for broken limbs or one riddled with bullets from a squad mate being a bit more trigger happy than good at aiming until she was called upstairs to the researchers by the CMO. Apparently on the planet below was a insect species that was pressuring some miners and was causing them to get sick and most died from the sickness and now one of her marines had signs of the sickness. The problem was they could not ascertain the cause of the sickness without quarantining the men. And the marines that escorted him up were refusing to abandon their friend or let the researchers work on the possibly dying man.
“Now gentlemen you will each move to your individual cells and I will close but not lock your doors. Private Hiser’s safety is my upmost priority. I will perform all the tests and pass the results off to the researcher so you can stand down. However please remove all your clothing and place your weapons on the beds. You may have also been infected so the CMO is going to do a full quarantine procedure for each of you,” with that said she moved Private hiser and began to strip him down to draw blood work and tissue samples from.

It took some time and Private Hiser had flat lined once but was able to be revived before they were able to find out what was truly going on. Apparently the insect larva form was a sort of mosquito like form that would draw blood from larger creatures to fuel its growth, unfortunately this picked up other pathogens from several creatures. Private Hiser and after further medical review happened to have been hyper sensitive to the natural poison found in the blood of this planet’s largest lifeform that’s primary adaptation was oddly the before mentioned poison laden blood.
