Schrödinger's Cat

Post by Crab_Spider » 12 Sep 2017, 15:01

A cat is placed inside a box, the box is rigged with a flask full of poison, a radioactive source, and there's a geiger counter inside the box that will go off when radiation is detected. You leave the cat for an hour, and when you return, the cat is dead or alive.

In one reality, the cat survives but is dying, in another, the cat is completely fine but eventually dies, and so on and so forth. However, someone brings up the idea the cat is in a state of one in the same until the box is opened (sidenote: your lightbulb is in a state of both on and off when you leave the room, when you return, that lightbulb will be how you left it when you departed)

Is the cat alive or dead? Is it one in the same?
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Quantum mechanics don't apply to cats.

I'm fun at parties.

You have to answer the actual question straight through.

What if the cat is already dead when I put it in the box?

Don't even get me started on the implications this experiment leads to, let's just all calm the hell down and talk about Quantum Entanglement instead.

Then there's absolutely nothing to go from there. It already died so why are you changing the topic?

What are you expecting the cat to be, dead or alive?

Before we get all philisophical, can the cat prove it's own existence?

No, because if you thought your existence was false, there would be evidence that could change your mind because you convinced yourself that your existence was false, therefore, the evidence is a part of that falsehood.

Schrodinger came up with this analogy to prove that quantum theory cannot apply to anything other than quantum particles. The cat is either alive or dead yes, but it does not change upon observation. The idea being that a quantum particle is either there or not, and when observed its state changes. You can either know where it's going, or where it is but never both. The cat thing is the same in all timelines, if the cat died from the poison it's just dead regardless if the box is open or not. The same for it being alive. In quantum theory, the particle's state of being is ACTUALLY unknowable. The cat's state of being can be solved by looking inside the box.

tl;dr the cat was a parody that people take too seriously.
