Description of the incident: Round has begun and I'm Queen, spend the first 30 minutes making eggs/otherwise being a decent Queen. In the middle of building a secure nest some random Crusher stops by and says something unimportant to me, I reply with "Reeee" in local chat. Instant 180 minute Ban with no warning and some message about "cracking down on Ree's and Ayys". Good luck with that by the way. I've had a few admins message me about xeno rp talk lately for things like "lol" or using numbers (yes really) in chat, but this has to be the most BS ban I've ever caught.

How you would punish the accused: Probation/teach them how to communicate with players? Xenos have been saying Ayy and Ree, literally forever. Couldn't even message me with a headsup first instead of ruining my round?

To back up my report? because it says : "Act like a Xenomorph - You are not a pet or best friends with the marines. Talk like one. It is fine to use words like "medbay" and "shuttle". You can also replace "shuttle" with "metal bird" if you wish. Hivemind is the English translation of a Xeno's thoughts. However, keep it formal and realistic. An occasional meme is fine, but spouting memes constantly or disrupting others with them is not allowed and you will be warned."

I was not warned, at the very worst I was low RP saying reee during a lowpop morning round (it's just a roar without blasting the audio of an actual roar). With the kind of shit I see over xeno coms -every single round- I think I at least deserved the warning/heads up. It's not like I was screaming N****r or Cuck over coms or anything (which happens daily by other players). Most players don't check forums every time they load up the game either. Extending this RP rule to saying reee/ayy is frankly ridiculous.

I should also add, if that interpritation of the rule was followed for every player, you'll end up banning/turning away almost every xeno vet player there is. At this point Ayys and Rees are interchangeable with 'Hello'. It's supposed to be low RP, not High RP afterall, as interactions are a lot more limited as a Xeno. There's a big difference between cleaning up the shitlords and 4chan speak in chat, and making playing xeno as fun as a trip to the DMV.

Yes, that is the intention of making that rule, we've left that extremely low RP xeno bullshit go by for too long despite many warnings and bans we haven't really made a significant impact against the behavior. So, now we are taking measures.

Xeno RP is never supposed to be god-awful basically OOC chat.

So, the occasional meme is allowed, but not that specific meme, occasionally? That's a pretty clear contradiction and seems to just be favoritism for a mod who made a bad call (or a bad implimentation of a policy). It's not like I was spamming it over chat either. Crusher said "roar" to me, and I replied with "Ree". This is why some communication with the player prior to ban would be helpful (and it's not like that would be difficult during low-pop).

I don't spend time on 4chan, and just had to look it up on 'Know your meme'. I always thought the Ree thing originated from the Aliens franchise because of the sounds they make, and that that was why it is constantly used in CM. At the end of the day that's all it was to me, a sound. I do know about the Ayylmao thing, but I'd be just as happy saying "Aye" instead of "Ayy".

0 tolerance for inoffensive low RP chat that is not imparing anyone elses game still doesn't sound reasonable.

I was just replying to your comment (and implied on the others) and how it came off in this thread, not making some grand statement on your character. I'm also not aware of your day to day or relationship with other mods either. Apologies if that was the impression.

Where does it say in the announcement that Ayy and Ree are no longer acceptable? I don't use discord, and it should be enough to check forums for rules. I'd think the two most popular "xeno memes" would get a passing note there if they were instant-ban worthy, is that unreasonable?

As for the character name, yes, and anyone who joins with an improper innoffensive name would be told to change it, and explained to that it was an RP server and their name was not acceptable. Not instantly banned (at least when I joined once as Dirk Gently, that was my experience, and I happily changed my name for the next round).

I'm not against low RP, I'm actually all for cleaning up hivemind chat, but this is way overboard. There isn't exacly a large amount of possible xeno RP in the first place, and most vets play xeno to entertain marines (by murdering them, its like being staff at a haunted house and having fun while doing it), not RP a mindless hivemind horde that acts like suicidal robots.

I think i've said everything there is to say, besides maybe lighten up a bit and take yourselves a little less seriously. Maybe try to talk to players before instant banning in cases like this where a rule is new and vague.

Look man, I appreciate the job you admins and mods do in CM, but noting it -to yourself- multiple times, instead of messaging me a single time, is not "plenty of warning".

The forum post said it would result in an instant 3 hour ban with no warning, and that's what you received. And that's what everyone else will receive. Yes, I do believe it's unreasonable for us to list out memes that are okay and not okay, because that would take forever. The post directly says that it has to be a particularly funny meme or joke to get a pass, so REEEEE and ayyy aren't gonna cut it.

Essentially, we've made a change in policy, you failed to follow that policy, and the mod in question properly enforced said policy.
