M4A1 WIP

Post by LohTek » 16 Sep 2017, 18:09

Prototype sprite of M4A1 I am working on; I may end up completely remaking it.

More spriting, I like it. I saw that you just got accepted to the staff team, so now I'm especially looking forward to your M41 sprite.

Thank you, Unfortunately things did not work out with joining as a spriter because of a massive difference in art style. I was taught using traditional techniques and the unique style that has been adopted does not agree with my sense of light and shadow. However I may continue to work on sprites occasionally knowing fully well that they will never be implemented because of the difference in stylistic choices.

Major work done on the gradients and some shape changes made; added magazine

I'd call this done.

I'd move the handle slightly closer to the barrel

You mean the sight rail? I had it that way originally but it does not jive with the magazine port.

After reviewing my source materials again I noticed I was missing parts of the inner rail

With the last change I noticed an issue with the front of the rail and the location of the magazine well:

this is probably all the work I want to do to this.

I lied.

I have the Lifweb .dmi files somewhere in my computer, I believe they had a small array of guns; a few handguns, revolvers, shotguns and a M41A plus a Flamer. They have much more melee weapons though, so go figure.

Going off topic but Lifeweb does have firearms, they are uncommon on the fort and typically seen during emergencies. Since the planet has lost most of its weapon production abilities due to time, loss of knowledge, and similar guns tend to be very expensive. Most firearms are old NOL firearms, most common are crappy handguns and some shotguns, there is a rare 'Talon' assault rifle in the armoury that wrecks stuff. The M41A is unique in that its a Tri-Net firearm, you only see it in either the hidden TNC Armoury or as a weapon made by the OS13 crew in the late game for self defence.

Going on topic the sprite is coming along.

I do think it needs some kind of strong border around the weapon, like most guns, to distinguish it some more.

From what I understand it's similar to 40k or some sci-fi genres in which a large scale event caused a massive change. Technology still exists but those that know what it is, and how to use and maintain it are mostly all but gone.

The standard technology available is that of a medieval era, but the fort is a remnant of an old defensive field generated by advanced technology.

Or something like that- I still have yet to play
