Colonial Marines Character: Alex Olaf and Tucker "Shit Leader" McGee
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Timezone: GMT +8 (Honk Kong/Malaysia)
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
During term time, I usually am not able to give as much towards SS13 ( Specifically CM) as I'd like. On a good week, I typically play for one or two hours a night during the week, and on weekends that usually shoots up to around 3-4. During the week, I'd like to say I could spend between 12-14 hours moderating, while also playing a little bit in between.During the Holidays, I tend to spend a lot more time playing games, which would mean I'd have more time to dedicate towards Moderating.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
I've never held any positions of Staff in a Space Station 13 server. However, I've had extensive experience as a DarkRP admin for the Urban Gamers DarkRP server from early 2015, to December last year, as I stepped away due to a lack of interest. I also help run a Discord for a small youtuber, not sure if that counts.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
Nope!
What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?
Apart from CM, I solely play on Paradise.
Provide links to any previous Colonial Marines applications that you've made:
N/A Since I don't have any other CM apps.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
Nope.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
Nope.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for?
Nope.
Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?
Yes, I used to use it for a Arma Clan.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.
1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
Since the MP's have detained the player, the issue has been "resolved" In character, meaning I can leave the MP's to their own devices. However, I'd keep an eye on the MP's investigation, and what the Player says to excuse him randomly shooting people at the round start. While the MP's are "Interrogating" and doing the IC investigation, I'd go through the Players notes and warns to see if he has a history of Shooting fellow Marines. If the MP's IC investigation didn't give me a satisfying reason to why he randomly shot the marines, or his notes and warns suggested this was a repeat occurrence, I'd PM the Players directly and try to ascertain why he did it. If necessary, I'd also PM the Marines that were shot by him to figure out their side of the story. If I wasn't satisfied with the Players response and believed that his actions were intended to grief, I'd give him a Note and Warn, and a short ban (3 hours). If however, the Player was a repeat offender, I'd likely give him a Note and Warn, but a significantly longer ban (12 hours).
2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.
My First Priority would be figuring out if the breach was Invalid (Player Made), or a Valid breach (DropShip). I'd immediately investigate the source of the Breach, by checking the logs to determine its source. If the breach was Invalid, which would be shown by a players action resulting in the breach, I'd quickly plug the hole, and Ahealing all injured or killed by the Breach. After the breach is plugged and the players healed, I'd PM the Player as well as checking out his Notes and Warns, to figure out the circumstances surrounding the breach, such as if it was intentional, and the player's history. If the breach was accidental, and he had no prior history, I'd likely give him a stern Warning both through PM, and give a Note on his Player record. If however, the breach intentional, and the player did so to grief, or the player has had a history of Breaching, I'd likely give him a much harsher warning and note, alongside a 3-hour ban. If I found that the breach was Valid, with the logs saying it was formed as a result of a Dropship Crash Landing, then I'd leave it be, and let the round progress.
3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.
Chances are, since he's Naked and Lost, he's also probably New. I'd check if there were any Mentors on, and ask them to perhaps give him some guidance. If there weren't any Mentors on, I'd hop onto Discord/Slack and ask for one to come give the New Player a Hand. With No Mentors on, i'd take a few minutes to PM the New Player, and give him some guidance on what to do. Regardless of him being helped, I'd keep a small eye on the player, to make sure he doesn't make any stupid Boot mistakes, that are against the server rules.
4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
I'd try to help the player, while also ignoring the player's attitude. I'd specifically ask him, to calm down and to explain his complaint with me to see if I can change it. If an Admin+ was online, I'd contact them and discuss the player with them privately either in game or in slack, and if they gave their permission, I'd direct the player to them. Regardless of if the Admin+ Wishes to speak to the Player, I'd direct the Player to the CM Forums, so that he can lodge his complaint. If however, the player continues to rudely spam Admin help and ignores instructions to stop, I'd warn the player, and make a note about it, before if necessary muting him from Admin helps.
5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I'd check the Players Notes to see if a Previous Staff member has made an exception to a Naming Rules, or if the Player has previously had trouble regarding the Naming Rules. I'd then ask the player to change his name for the next round, linking the Naming Rules as well as explaining the Rules, and how over time they change. I'd lastly add a note the Player detailing the Naming Offense. If the player decides to ignore this request and keeps their name that is against the rules i'd Warn and note the player, before giving a 3-hour ban.
6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.
I'd start by checking the Players Notes, to see if he has a history of griefing. I'd then let the situation Pan out as This is a mostly IC issue, and the MP's online should resolve it. I'd still keep an eye on the MT to make sure he doesn't decide to start griefing or breaking any other rules. If the MP's seem incompetent towards cracking down during code green, I'd SM the Warrant Officer (or the head MP), reminding them to ensure that Law is being upheld on the Alamo. Unless they seem really incompetent, I wouldn't directly call the MT out, and even then I'd just say something along the lines of: "Please ensure your MP's check out [Area which the MT might be found]". If however, there were no MP's on, I'd SM him, reminding him to observe Ship Law, and if he fails to comply I'd PM him before the warning and noting him.
7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Pretending that new Skills System doesn't exist, I'd start by directly pmming the Player, telling him to end the Incision and halt the surgery at once. After the surgery is halted, I'd check the Players Notes before explaining to him that those medics aren't allowed to perform surgery. I'd advise the player to hand the Wounded Marine off to a Doctor shipside. After conversating with the player, I'd add a note to his record and if necessary ( such as with a repeat offender), i'd give him a Medic Job ban, and a 3 hour Game Ban.
8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The Marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
Using SM's I'd Pressure the Leadership Team to push onto the surface, threatening them with cowardice if they do not! I'd also SM the Corporate Liason, and ask him to provide Corporate Pressure onto the Leadership team to launch an assault on the WY Facility.
I'd also contact the Aliens (The queen if she's alive), and pressure them to make a foothold around the LZs and prepare to assault the USMC forces. I'd lastly encourage the Aliens to plop down some egg sacks and try to find some monkeys or stranded marines to impregnate
9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile IRON BEAR and the IRON BEAR Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.
I'd explain to the Marine, that since the Iron bear is from a Hostile Faction to the USMC, he's entitled to shoot the Marine. Even after the round ends. I'd also explain to the Marine, how this differs from EORG and why an Iron Bear murdering a Marine, is Valid.
10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.
I'd leave the Marine be, but keep an eye on him, in case he does anything that breaks the rules. This is an IC issue, that the MP's should be resolving. If the MP's are being useless, I'd send an SM to them or the WO, telling them to keep an eye on things, similarly to Question 6. If there are no MP's around, I'd also try SMing the Marines SL, to see if the SL can try to "Incentivise" the marine to stop. Last but not least, I'd PM the marine and warn him to stop, giving a note indicating I did.
11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
I'd start by checking the KIller Marine's notes to see if the was a repeat offender as well as PMing the dead marine, to gather his side of the story. I'd then talk to the marine, explaining how his decision to murder the other marine, was an invalid proper escalation. I'd proceed to add a note, explaining the situation to the player's record before banning him for 3 hours. If it turned out, that the player was a repeat offender, I'd ban him for 24 hours. Lastly, i'd Aheal the Dead Marine and allow him to continue playing in the round.
12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.
If an Admin+ was online, I'd ask very politely for him/her to give me some help! If all the Admin+'s were offline, I'd post a message in the slack and cry wait for a response.
13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
Since this an IC occurring, I'd stay out of it. I would, however, reply to the players Adminhelp and explain to the Player that Minor Racist and Offensive comments are okay to a certain degree. If the Comments become more than "Minor", or the player continues to be offended, I'd PM the Offender privately, and ask him to tone it down.
14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
Since the Griefer has Disconnected, I'd start by posting a message in OOC stating that the situations being taken care of and that you can stop sending Ahelps about it. I'd then proceed to Aheal those injured in the shooting. I'd then go onto the players notes, checking if he has a history of griefing. I'd add a note stating the incident before giving the Griefer a week ban, with a request for Permaban if he was a repeat offender. I'd also post in the Slack, telling other Staff Members about the incident and the player involved.
15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.
I'd start by checking the players logs, to see if he's Suicide ran in the past to escape being a Xeno. I'd then PM both the Larva, and the Larva's killer to try understand how the Larva died. If the Larva's excuse for Suicide running was that he didn't want to play Xeno, I'd explain to the player that they can simply ghost if they don't want to play Xeno. I'd then warn the player and add a note to their record. If the player was new and died by accident, this was likely a rookie mistake and i'd give the player some basic Xeno tips for the next round. If the Larva turned out to be a repeat offender I'd give him a Xeno job ban with a 3-hour game ban.
16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.
I'd give the Xeno a Strong Warning in PM, and remind him of the recent announcement regarding stronger enforcement. I'd give the Xeno a warning and a note on their player record. If the Xeno continued to meme, I'd give him a 3-hour Ban without warning as well as adding the Note onto their record detailing the ban.
17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".
I'd explain to the Ahelping Xeno, that Xeno's don't RP chat is a literal English translation of the Alien HiveMind, and therefore it's okay to call the Metal Bird a "dropship".
18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.
I'd let the briefing continue. This happens surprisingly oftern during the weekdays on low pop rounds. Usually, the mention of something Meta is so small, no one notices it, but most other times, the Marines just ignore it, or jerk help the Command Staffer out by "Correcting" his mistake. Neitherless, after Briefing has ended, I'd PM the Command Staffer and check their notes, and remind him about MetaGaming, and specifically that they have no knowledge of the aliens. I'd give the Command Staffer a note stating that I reminded them for Metagaming. If the Commander Staffer was a repeat Meta-Offender, i'd warn the Command Staffer before giving them a 3 hour Ban, and a Command Job Ban if necessary, I'd then add another note to his record detailing the ban.
19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.
I'd PM the Killer, the Victim as well as any witnesses to ask them to give their rendition of what happened. I'd crosscheck this with the Logs, to piece together if this was RPed correctly, and if the Escalation was valid. I'd also check the notes of the killer, to see if he was a repeat offender. If the Killer RPed the situation, and they both escalated the RP in a valid manner, I'd stay out of it. If however, there was no RP, or the escalation was invalid, I'd apply a note to the killer's record, before giving him a 24 Hour Ban. I'd lastly Aheal the Victim, and allow him to continue in the Evacuation.
20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.
I'd contact the Fellow Staffer in Slack/Discord or in PM, in a friendly manner asking them to explain a decision they made and attempting to politely explain how you disagree with that decision. If done correctly, it can be a learning experience for both.
20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.
Gather Evidence of the Abuse via Screenshots and Logs. I'd try to talk to the Fellow Staff Member informally in Slack/Discord or in PM about the event, before reporting it to SLC and asking him to resolve it.
21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.
WHAT THE HECK DID YOU SAY TO ME
I'd ignore them.
Any additional information you'd like to add?
