On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
Being unemployed at the moment and trying to enlist into the Air Force, I can usually clock in 4 to 10 hours during a day. So on a bad week, I can put in 28 hours a week.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
Negative.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
I think Alpha if I understand that question correctly.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?
I played Paradise alot and occansionally Aurora, but that's about it.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
Negative.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
Negative.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for?
Negative.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?
I am not very familiar with it, but I believe I can easily adapt to it.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.

1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
The situation in game has been taken care of with the intervention of the MPs IC'ly. To make sure this is an accident or a case of griefing, I will PM the attacker and ask what their intentions were during the shooting as well as checking his notes for any previous instances of greifing. As long as everything checks out with the player and it is an accident, I will give him a warning and let the MPs take care of the rest In-Game. If it is an attempt of grief, its a very stern warning or outright ban depending on the notes they have.

2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.
I will patch the breach and fix the atmos to ease the damage in case it is an attempt of greifing or powergaming. I will then search the logs for a culprit of the breach and check if it was a stray rocket or a purposeful attempt of grief/powergaming. If an accident, carry on and let the round progress. if not, Punish the player who cause the breach accordingly with the severity of it and any previous known instances.

3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.
Pm them on what they're doing and offer if they need any guidance or assistance on what they need to do.

4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
Remain calm during the aggressive talks and ask what is it they need to see if I can solve their problem. If the aggressive behavior continues, I'll talk with an admin about the player and their problem and let them decide if it's worth investigating.

5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I will remind them that they are required to read the rules if they want to play the game without any complaints from the moderators. If they want to continue playing without any trouble, they need to change their name the next round. If it persists despite receiving multiple warnings, punish with a ban of a few hours.

6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.
Observe the player to see if their intentions are ill or that of a baldy. Make sure they don't break any rules and hope the MPs will intervene with the player. If a violation occurs, react accordingly with damage control and punish the player with a job ban and/or ban on how severe.

7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
This is no longer an issue with the new skill system. If there was a glitch and it did somehow happen, I will give the player a warning of a job ban regardless of doctors or not.

8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
Given that the marines have the numbers advantage, I will PM the highest officer on what they plan on doing and suggest they be more aggressive and go on the assault.

9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile IRON BEAR and the IRON BEAR Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.
Tell them nothing is wrong with the murder, the marine is acting according with the RP and being round end doesn't mean you stop RPing.

10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.
PM them why they are stealing and being hostile during round start. Most cases, it will likely be grief or trolling and punish accordingly with their notes and how much trouble they caused. If they happen to be the few that can reason themselves of it, carry on and let the MPs handle it.

11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Check the logs to confirm and investigate if there is more to it. Ask the other player their side of the story and see if it lines up. Either way, give the player a warning that it is no way to solve a problem IC'ly and they will receive a ban if they do this again. Leave a note on the player and revive the dead marine.

12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.
If there is nothing that I can do to solve the issue, message an Admin on the problem and inform them of the whole issue. Work alongside the admin and assist with anything they need help with.

13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
Tell them that while it may be offensive, it's allow in IC and they will just need to bear with it. As long as the situation remains in IC, its fair and can carry on.

14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
Work on reviving and healing the marines that are injured or killed during the shooting. Place a week ban immediately on the player and check the notes for any other instances of this. If there is, file a permaban request on the player and provide the evidence to the request to prevent another attempt of grief.

15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.
PM the player on why they ran towards the frontline and got themselves killed. If it is to just be close and evolve and they don't have any notes against them, tell them to don't do that again and just wait in safety next time. If they have notes against them, punish accordingly and give a ban.

16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.
If this is the first time they done this, give them a warning that they will be banned if they do this again. If this is a repeat offence, give a ban that will make Fewah proud.

17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".
Tell the player that they are allowed to call it a shuttle and it abides with Xeno RP.

18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.
PM the player to add a correction on their statement to talk of the nonthreatening wildlife the xenos use for breeding. Remind the player they do not know of the Xenos IC'ly and they must act in accordence.

19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.
Check the logs to see if there is anything else might of escalated it. If not, tell them there are other options to solve the problem such as subduing and hijacking. If there is, give the player a note of the instance and punish in accordance with their notes with a ban.

20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.
PM the staff member they have gave the wrong info to the player and tell them the correct info to give.

20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.
Tell the staff member they are going a bit too far with the privileges and suggest they stop. If they don't stop and continue with the abuse, inform an Admin of the staff member and provide logs of the abuse. Let them handle the punish for the staff member while I undo the damage the staff member might of done.

21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.
Laugh and carry on.

Hi, Cry of Wolves, thank you for taking the time to make an application for Mod! I'll be responding in the order of your general info, your situation responses, and then giving my final verdict+any feedback.

This is your first time being staff anywhere, so I look forward to reading your responses to situations.

On to the situation questions. No feedback means your response was good and does not require anything :].
3. Also might be good to ask a mentor to take the time to help him out if you're busy.
8. Depending on the state of marines, xenos can also be pushed a little.
10. Might be good to allow MP to take care of the situation as well if they can. PM is still a good idea, and if they're not killing anyone, I'd let MPs take care of it but still add it to notes.
11. Just to clarify this is called improper escalation when someone goes overboard with retaliation.
15. If they ran to the front lines to suicide, then it's an immediate ban, no warning. Now if it's an accident, then that changes stuff.
16. The rule is a 3hr ban on second offense.
20a. You should document the occurrence and get proof then go to the superior officer. Directly confronting someone isn't a good idea.

Hey there! Thanks for taking the time to make an application, I think a lot of what I'd like to say has already been covered but I may as well weigh in with my opinion regardless.

3. Never forget about mentors!
4. Just because someone demands something doesn't necessarily mean you should try to get it for them, you are well within your rights as an unpaid volunteer to tell them to cut the crap.
7. I'd like you to specify a little bit more on this case if you could? You'd warn them about the potential for a job ban, sure. But what of the surgery and patient?
8. As a moderator you do have the option to create a Queen mother report if required, though it tends to be a rare situation. Don't forget that you can subtle message as well, direct PM's aren't always needed.
10. I'm always a fan of observing a situation to get a good feel for it before jumping in to ask questions, but I can at understand your process.
15. Suiciding as a larva is largely something that players shouldn't ever have the chance to do without some kind of intentional action, unless they happened to burst somewhere unfortunate so there is some merit to speaking to the player in question to follow a line of query.
20a. Document, report. It's not worth the potential arguments that could ensue if you happen to be misunderstanding, else it's not up to moderators to intervene.

I'm quite happy with your application, I've only brought up the things that I noticed but overall it's a pretty good application. I'm confident in giving you a +1 here as I suspect you'd live up to expectation. Well done!

My bad, I would likely let them finish the surgery at this point. They are likely halfway through the surgery and it isn't fair to the patient to be left half finished and left hanging in an even worse state than before.

And thank you for the compliment. I was nervous that I might say the wrong things for the question, but I'm pleasantly surprised to be wrong for a change. ^_^
