Potential Military Occupations
► Show Spoiler
Squad Marine: Likes to keep it simple and only equips a M41A with a bayonet, the reason being if combat gets heavy Kurt will just take a modded gun from one of his fellow marines who have been killed.
Squad Specialist: Being a sniper serves as an opportunity to stay as far away from the immediate combat zone as possible.
Squad Medic: Has been seen reading a medical manual intensely while treating a severely injured and screaming marine. Said to have only basic First Aid training.
Squad Leader: Likes to call in CAS when encountering more than two enemies in the same general area. Believes in "Tactical Maneuvering" backwards, towards safety. Rarely uses Supply Beacons for ammo drops since Kurt Ratchell believes in "Field Requisition", preferring to use SBs for Engineers, Smartgunners, and Medics only.

Historical Background
► Show Spoiler
Kurt Ratchell didn't have much of an exciting life, having lived in the small recycling town of Podunkville, North Dakota. Garbage from the bigger cities made their way down here and workers would sift through it for usable materials. Kurt was expected to be a professional scavenger like his parents, but due to financial issues became an Army soldier after a brief stint as a security guard. He was only in for five years until dishonorably discharged due to "Failing to Live up to the Standards of the United American Army" after being found repeatedly drunk and seen rummaging through dumpsters. When Kurt Ratchell heard about the USCM's rumored hiring standards, he headed to the nearest Recruiter of this honorable Corps as quickly as possible; the USCM, in turn, took one look at his history and recruited him on the spot.
► Show Spoiler
Kurt Ratchell is not the brave and bloodthirsty marine who likes to dive into the thick of it with only an empty gun and a knife, leading the charge; instead he prefers to stay in nice FOBs and bars, somewhere safe and far from danger. When on patrol, Kurt always try to stay in the middle of the squad, not in the front where the heaviest action could take place nor the rear where bad things can happen to stragglers. During battlefield simulations as Squad Leader, Kurt Ratchell has been known to find the reckless and heroic marines and put them as Point (Wo)Man so that if things go down, the enemy will be distracted by the gloryhounds of the squad while Kurt tries to order a "tactical maneuvering back to base" to the survivors. Kurt as Squad Leader doesn't fight in the front lines, preferring to use CAS, Orbital Beacon, and his marines as his primary weapon.
Ratchell has been known to plead with Command as Squad Leader in order to get FOB duty, making any and all excuses to keep away from exciting danger.
Kurt has never given up his scavenger ways from childhood, and is nicknamed "Raccoon" due to this. Whether on patrol or staying in the FOB, Kurt never misses the opportunity to procure useful or interesting items, whether from abandoned buildings or dead bodies (of course, he leaves ID Cards alone). He says he does this because he hates the Requisition Office and the long lines it causes. His favorite things to loot is money, alcohol, food, and weapons, but he is not above getting something that catches his fancy. Even as Squad Leader Kurt Ratchell recommends scrounging for his whole squad.
A lifelong drinker, Kurt loves whiskey most of all, but is willing to take anything that "burns his soul". He disdains beer, and is indifferent to wine. As Squad Leader he has been known to take detours to the bar and when possible hole up there. Squad members, despite misgivings on the lack of valor in Kurt's part, have said that he can be "a pretty chill SL".

Likes: Drinking whiskey, looting abandoned buildings and corpses, not being in Requisition Office lines, staying in comfy FOBs and other safe and loot-friendly places, keeping an ear for the Evac Order, and persuading eager young Baldies to do the heroic stuff for him.
Dislikes: Requisition Office lines, brave Squad Leaders who drag their squad to glory, try-hard Marines who charge into combat for the glory and thrill, Military Police, danger, slow pilots who take too long to lift off, fast pilots who lift off before Kurt can get on, and being sent on dangerous objectives.
Fears: The rumored and mythical Commander Bill Carson, said to send his marines on impossible missions with high fatality rates that sometimes ends in catastrophic failure for the whole ship, yet Commander Carson always come out of it unscathed with a new medal pinned to his already highly decorated chest. Kurt Ratchell fears the day he is put under the command of this man, as it spells almost certain doom if the legends are true.
