Distress

Post by contactdenied » 12 Oct 2017, 02:05

Aboard the USCSS Royce, it seems like another action less day. CLF and UPP elements have been decreasing at an alarming rate in the Tychon's Rift sector, but a call for help emerges from a ship nearby, what could be happening?

Another boring day on the Royce, it's been quite a long time since the PMCs have encountered any CLF or UPP elements in this area, and I'm pretty sure we're the only cruise-Come in USCSS Royce!

Glancing towards my console, I realize that there is a distress call being sent out!

I scramble to answer the call, gaining the attention of the CO, who was getting a coffee.

What seems to be the problem, Executive Officer?

I quickly answer that there is a distress call being sent out from another ship in the sector.

The Commander seems surprised, A distress call? We're the only ship in this sector, are you sure that-

I hold up a hand, signalling him to wait, and start listening to the call.

US*S* Ro*ce, thi* is t*e US* A*MAYE*, come in!

A feeling of surprise takes me over, did I hear that right? The USS Almayer?

Executive Officer, where is it coming from and who's sending it?

I answer that it's coming from the USS Almayer, and a look of surprise also takes over the Commander's face. Th-TheUSS Almayer?

I look back towards the console and start trying to communicate with the caller, asking them if they could try to fix the overwhelming amount of static coming from the microphone.

They comply quickly, their voice almost becoming crystal clear to me.

Th-This is the USS Almayer coming in, I am Executive Officer Adrian.

I listen closely to their console and realize that gunfire can be heard in the background, alarming.

I ask what's happening over there that's enough to warrant a distress call.

Agh, it's all gone horribly wrong over here, there are lizards that spit acid and they're huge!

This catches me by surprise, lizards that spit acid? Surely this is some kind of prank.

The Commander now stands next to me listening in on the conversation, nervousness on his face. The four Staff Officers turn around in their chairs and start to talk among each other.

The USS Almayer is one of the most powerful marine cruisers in the USCM, the thought of what could warrant a distress call from them answered in the most illogical way.

I ask them to clarify, even though I don't believe them in the slightest.

Adrian takes a deep breath and begins explaining. We were responding to a distress call from a colony called Solaris Ridge, once our marines went down we got reports of lizard like creatures that spit and bled acid! We didn't believe it at first, but looking through the helmet cameras of marines we saw that it was true!

I look towards the Commander, and his face is covered in pure fear, which is not normal for him. After realizing that I was looking at him, he regains his composure and turns around to face the chatting Staff Officers.

Listen closely Staff Officers, I want every single PMC on this ship to get ready for a quarantine operation on this planet, and 12 PMCs for a ERT squad to be sent to the USS Almayer to get ready for deployment, pronto!

The Staff Officers snap out of their chat, give a sloppy salute, and start speaking into their separate headsets.

The Commander turns to me quickly, startling me, and motions for me to keep speaking with the other Executive Officer.

Listen, I don't have much time here, they're about to get in and there's only me in here!

I ask what happened to the rest of command on his ship.

They're all in the self destruct room, I was picked by Commander Carson to go and call for help.

Commander Carson... that name rings a bell, but now's not the time to remember names. Wait, self destruct?

I look towards the Commander, and he is also surprised.

I can hear them making their way in! Please, send help! I don't want to be a-

... The call cut out.

i made this when i was bored and i might continue it later on, sorry for the abrupt end
Phillip Driver, jack of all trades, reliable in some. Your typical jumpy flamer PFC or ammo fumbling CPL, always has a pair of ballistic goggles on him for unknown reasons. Will probably die mid sentence, because he talks (and gets bullied) too much for his own good. He has his moments though.

Jim, a Gen 2 Synthetic. Has a tendency to get melted to bits when planet side, and that's when he's behind barricades. Despite that, he's vigilant and always ready to drag you out of danger, even if it damages him in the process.

The Almayer isn't the most powerful ship silly, it's more a quick stealthy patrol ship.

In all honesty, not a "bad" story. It's got something. I'd just prefer an actual normal book like format. As to just add the whole aspect of people talking. Good stuff though.
