The Best Topic About Titles and Greetings
I feel as though a lot of disrespect in general occurs on the server because a lot of people simply aren't all on the same page when it comes to courtesy! Especially proper greetings. Allow this shithead former soldier to inform you with the help of his Marine friend on the proper greetings when addressing a Marine, (and to also stop thinking that the CTs and MTs are civilians.)
Typewriter font for typewriter purposes.
Form for proper greetings of your fellow Marines of various ranks and genders. All 47 of them including the Alamo.
GENDERS, AND GENERAL ENLISTED + OFFICER GREETINGS
Female or Male (Enlisted):
Refer to rank. If lower than LCpl, last name is OK. Enlisted are never saluted and never addressed as "Sir" or "Ma'am". They work for a living.
Female or Male (Officer):
Always refer to rank OR address as "Sir" or "Ma'am". STOP CALLING WOMEN "SIR". Salute first in garrison (Alamo). Or don't. I can't tell you what to do.
TERMS FOR RANKS AND ORDER:
Formal:
Private First Class ---> Lance Corporal ---> Corporal ---> Sergeant ---> Staff Sergeant ---> Ensign ---> Lieutenant ---> Lieutenant Commander ---> Commander ---> Admiral (correct me if I missed any or if the order is wrong)
Shorthand: (Respectful but terse.)
Private* OR PFC ---> Lance ---> Corporal ---> Sergeant ---> Staff* OR Sergeant ---> Ensign ---> Lieutenant OR LT ---> Commander* ---> Commander ---> Admiral
Private* is always used in person. Nobody ever refers to someone as "Private First Class Smith" unless they're pulling the equivalent of your mom saying your middle name (I've never heard it or heard of it). Alternatively, as stated before, Privates can be referred to simply as their last name. You could also pull this with a Lance Corporal, but I'd only advise doing this as a Lance to another Lance. A PFC referring to a Lance by only their last name is likely to get hazed.
Staff* is like saying "LT". It's generally only said when referring to someone as only their rank. For instance you wouldn't say "Hey Staff Hicks, what's up?" but you would say "Hey Staff" to get their attention. Otherwise, saying Sergeant is respectful enough.
A Lieutenant Commander* is referred to as "Commander" in person, whether by a superior officer or an inferior rank, unless he's of course in a position, in which case that may be used. (XO)
Roles:
This isn't done to such an extent IRL as in game but it's respectful enough anyway and it's part of the culture. You may address individuals by their roles. Generally IRL this is reserved for specialized personnel when pertaining to a vehicle.
Commander ---> CO
Lieutenant Commander ---> XO
Pilot Officer ---> PO
Squad Leader ---> SL
Congratulations, now you're not calling women "sir" and you know who's who on the ship and what to call them! Remember to always speak tactfully to officers, even as a superior officer, and never trash talk someone of superior rank. Otherwise they're rightfully allowed to haze and PT you until you fucking die.

Re: The Best Topic About Titles and Greetings
my ranking structure is a simple one,
anyone higher than you=boss lad
anyone under you=lad
doesn't get much simpler than that

Re: The Best Topic About Titles and Greetings
I can see where that comes from because it's similar to other ranks in the various services where they share similar names. Staff Sergeant and Sergeant, Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel, etc, but while I'm not a Marine, I was a soldier in the Army, I am told by my Marine friend that at least in the US Marine Corps a Lance Corporal is generally not referred to as a Corporal. I think this has to do with LCpl not being an NCO while Corporal being an NCO and denoting the difference in authority, but I could be wrong and I'll take your word that in the British Army that's the case.

Re: The Best Topic About Titles and Greetings
Maybe it's different in the marines but here in Canada we use position titles a lot more, though generally not when talking directly to that person. Also over radio we never use rank. Since we don't have call signs in this game position titles are the next best thing.
