Questions for the CM developers.

Post by manezinho » 01 Nov 2017, 08:17

What are the pros and cons of using the Byond Dream Maker in comparison to other free game development programs? Besides the fact that SS13 was made in Byond, why do you keep using it?

I'm no game developer but from what I've seen and heard, Byond is really good for getting an online game going and... not much else. Not to say that people don't make great games with it but it seems that there are some heavy limitations in certain areas. I honestly have no idea how Byond works so I want to see what you guys can tell me. I appreciate the work you guys do to make this game the way it is today, hope you never stop. :)

Pros: Updates to Dream Maker will allow more utility to what the server can do.
-A lot more accessibility and notoriety while using DM
-Predetermined variables

Cons :
-Certain updates will hinder the way the server operates.
-Beta itself bugs how your code will operate
-Code needs to be fixed on the regular after each update
-More efficient systems (third party or otherwise) will lag the system.
-Code MUST be up to date or else compilation issues will be constant.

These are all I know from the top of my head.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I am John "Buckshot" Rhodes, the Tactical Snowflake Hunter
