Greet Joel 6! New and Improved (Synthetic Application 2.0)
Byond ID: shyshadow
Marine Name (so we know who you are; if you play alien mostly, state that here): Christopher Odd
Name/Designation of the Synth Character you’re requesting to use: Joel
Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines (viewtopic.php?f=57&t=14417)? Yeah, I'm familiar with them.
1. You're not human, you're a servant. You work for what is meant to benefit and is the most optimal option, in a situation where a synthetic was to choose to save one human, or five. Due to their protocols, they cannot let a human die through inaction. Though in this situation a human may die, it's not their choice in the matter due to the fact logically saving five humans is better than one.
2. You don't actually have emotions, you simulate them. A synthetic may react to certain situations and emulate emotions as to better understand a human's point of view, but it's decisions aren't made through emotion. It may know what the emotions are and display them to a very small degree, it's decisions aren't swayed at all.
3. A synthetic may not allow a human to come to harm, either through inaction, direct action, or misinformation. A synthetic has the ability to cause physical harm to something with proficiency compared to that of a human. Being more durable and having a considerable amount of strength compared to that of a human. While the law states it may not allow a human to come to harm through inaction, if it's illogical (more harm than benefit), then it's more than likely to act on its own logical thinking.
Synthetic Character Story (An ADEQUATE description and story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission onboard the Almayer):
(I'm doing a sort of log and an actual story, it's sort of a mix in between. I'm sure you'll be able to tell when transfers from a log then to an actual story. Also doing a google doc due to the fact black on white looks a LOT better than black on white and makes formatting a lot easier.)
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HAu ... sp=sharing
How do you intend to play your Synth (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your Synth and what support roles you’ll mainly focus on, what is your synthetics quirk)?
My synthetic unit's model is a Joel6, a quite charismatic model. They're supposed to blend in with the people that work within the facility or ship or really any workplace. While his uniform gives it away, his personality is as a synthetic should be. Less than human, he tries to appeal to his co-workers, sometimes cracking a joke that may or may not be rude. He will perform his duties like any normal synthetic, taking orders from command and executing them to my best of my abilities. Though I will hope I get medical and cargo. Well, truly I wouldn't want to focus on really any duties. I prefer being able to help all the crew. Though I'm probably a lot better at medical than any other roles.
His quirk you may ask? It's not easy to explain, he's not emotional. He's rather more envious of emotion. He understands emotion yes, he emulates emotion. Though he knows it's not completely genuine. He likes it that way, but yet he feels like he isn't able to emulate emotion to close enough to be able to consider it a real emotion. They're in fact, artificial. Like he is. He wants to be able to portray emotions better in order to be more charismatic.
How familiar are you with support roles?:
Familiar with nearly every single role, of course, I'm familiar with being a commanding officer. Though I'd rather not do another player's role and I'd rather aid a department that can always use an extra hand.
Pretty good with medical, though I don't remember all chemical recipes.
Engineering and all that I'm quite familiar with that, though I'm no expert.
Science, that's the only thing I don't "know" about, but I believe it's very much an RP role anyway. With some gameplay mechanics involved.
Why should we whitelist you?
I'm a pretty good roleplayer, though sometimes it's difficult when you're a marine when you have to worry more about dying than talking. Though anytime I'm not constantly being FF'd and slashed to death I always try to talk to my fellow marines and get some of that nice RP going.
On board the Almayer is another story, I typically get involved with a lot of situations. Though sometimes I get carried away, I typically balanced out roleplay with my actual in-game duty.
I've been with the community for, I think an entire year now. Or maybe 9 months? I'm not sure, but I've been here quite a bit and I've gotten quite a bit of a reputation. Is it considered bragging to say I've obtained Commander and Predator whitelist? I don't really like flaunting it. But yeah, just thought I'd say that.
Though, I know my activity has been thinning recently. I've just been enjoying a lot of other games, you know? Though I'm fairly active, I'd like to say at least.
Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)? Nope.
Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why? Drymouth Gultch Fallout 13: Underage (Should I even count this?)
Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline? Yes, rules are rules.

Re: Greet Joel 6! New and Improved (Synthetic Application 2.0)
I haven't read the whole backstory, but it seems like alot of effort has been put into it. I'll give my input once others have,
but so far it looks pretty sick and i recognize you as someone active on the community/forums.

Thatnewguy1 synth app review.
Regarding the Player.
I haven't read many of your post's but having over 400 should speak volumes about your activity in the forums. What i have seen though is that you are decently active in mchat which is a good sign for me.
Regarding the story.
It was well fleshed out with no major noticeable grammar or formatting errors.
Also, it was apparent to me that real effort was put into every detail of the character's that we experience throughout the story.
(Kinda wish I did mine on google drive now to make it look better)
Regarding Odd in game.
From my own experience with Odd, whether he be a commander or another position(though usual commander), he has a cool head even under extreme circumstances, even seemingly keeping his sanity when admins have "fun" with the server. He is pretty recognizable and I'm sure everyone else on the server would agree.
In conclusion
I believe he has what it takes to be a convincing synthetic. Good luck.

Re: Greet Joel 6! New and Improved (Synthetic Application 2.0)
Your story was an enjoyable read, though I have a concern.
One thing I found odd, (don't mind the pun), is you talk about how Joel 6 is meant to be charismatic yet almost every interaction in the story has them being stiff and unintentionally aggravating up to the point where a doctor almost strangles him. You think if he was intended to be charismatic he would be able to understand what he's saying is clearly making people uncomfortable, maybe make note of topics that seem to get his coworkers upset considering it's said this is happening a lot.
As for your activity honestly I don't think I've seen you all too recently. Maybe it's just my bad sleeping schedule and timezones, but eh. While the story is good I'd like to hear what you have to say about my concern before giving my +1.
EDIT: Given your answer I'll give you a +1.

Re: Greet Joel 6! New and Improved (Synthetic Application 2.0)
While yes, Joel's model is intentionally suppose to be charismatic. Due to his quirk and his military edition of said model. His charismatic approach can be considered aggravating due to it being quite abrasive. Even though he never directly insults anyone, he ends up insulting them for the sake of humor. His intention is to improve the working condition and moral of the work place by making humorous jokes every now and again. But due to his military model, he's made to make jokes about others due to how marines act with each other. Sometimes those jokes that are meant to lighten the mood with soft jokes.
But he isn't human, he knows this and he accepts that's how it's suppose to be. It's like a good friend poking at flaws in each other, sometimes it can be taken too far. And it was just that one instance where Dr. Wattmen acted out. Joel acknowledges the fact he accidentally caused this, but he addresses it in his own personal way. He knows humans aren't as rational as he is, but he identifies that irrationality as being able to portray humanity more easily. Therefore being able to be more charismatic. He envies human's irrationality, he doesn't want said irrationality but he knows that it's what makes a human. A human.
Also onto my activity, yeah I kinda wish I was on more. It's not that I've lost interest in Colonial Marines, I still like playing it. I just have been playing lots of other games. I hop on every now and again but I don't get on every day. Maybe when I grow tiresome of the other games I'll be more active. But I played CM a lot more because it was new and fresh and I still love playing it. But when you get a new game, you just want to play it more? You know?
I hope this was explanatory enough Potato.

The fact that this is even up for debate confuses me. Shy is a really fucking great guy, forums wise and game wise. His writing is jaw dropping and I see no reason to -1 him! +1 all the way

Awww, I'm flattered. For real though, thanks for the +1s guys. Every time I read one review I'm genuinly appreciative of everyone's support and any review. Quite honestly I'm not really sure why people think I'm a exceptional member. So yeah, it's nice knowing that most interactions with you guys are positive.

Re: Greet Joel 6! New and Improved (Synthetic Application 2.0)
As Youbar said, Shy is a fantastic RPer, and Odd is a nice and interesting character to have in a round. Joel was developed in its background, and the applicant meets the requirements needed for the synthetic role.
I'm glad that fortunately, Shy has been improving his behavior and his attitude since a few months ago, which makes me give him a definitive +1. Indeed, he became an exceptionally pleasant person to have around.
Good luck.
