Failures

Post by JennerH » 04 Dec 2017, 12:42

I've noticed getting out played by xenos isn't the thing that gets me. Out if all the times I've died I've only raged once and it was over getting pushed into gas as an MT.

The things that bum me put are when I'm SL and I get squad members killed, or I'm medic and I wasn't fast enough, ect ect.

Is anyone else like this?

Oh boy, where do I start with the failures that keep me up at night...

Well, there was that one time I decapped a marine with a sniper.
Or the time I sent our squad smartgunner to hell and back with grenade launcher FF.
Or that one time where I buckshotted someone in the chest because he help-intent moved through me.

Well then.

I always feel 100% responsible when we lose and I'm commander. I always try to keep marines in high spirits but it's difficult when things get out of hand so easily.
I play as this guy, proudly being dismembered by extraterrestrials since 2015.
Sometimes I might play other guys, you never know.

Having marines dying under my leadership as SL, having to fallback, bad OBs, lack of supplies.

Some of those aren't my fault, but I always feel like I could have done something else to prevent it.

The key is you make the marines think they're always winning. ;)

Once upon a time, during sulaco boarding, I sadar'd a praetorian with an AT rocket, killing him and making a breach that killled over 15 marines that were holding briefing.

Few days ago, first time being squad engineer, felt like it took me half a hour to fix the APC in Big Red.

Not as critical as everything above but I did facepalm hard in real life.

You will, you just gotta keep at it. Also analyze how you play, both tactically and physically. Is your chair comfy, what controls do you use, how accurate is your mouse, do you use macros, ect ect. Remember that if you don't have a buddy within eyesight you're probably gonna die, and don't bite at something if you don't have the tools to eat it, IE don't pick a fight with a group of xenos without some firepower, don't attack the queen in tight spaces, ect

When I play doctor, and I see someone revivable but just can't do it in time. Big one was this person with lots of burn and brute damage. Defib didn't work so put Bic and kel inside. Just about to Defib when changed to the skull sign. Was so sad after that. 10 more seconds they would of lived

Mucking up my diagonal throw getting a rebound and torching half a squad with a incendiary nade

Forgetting i had USGL switched on deep inside the FOB

Mid round SL spawn. Lasts 5 minutes on the surface getting taken out while moving too the front
Mainly play - SL , SG , SO

A good SO should be telling the marine's they doing great and are about to win then turning around and telling the CO they're fucking doomed and need backup.

Failure varies from role to role, but it is mostly combat and leadership roles where I feel the more shame when fucking up.

I myself tend to take failure pretty hard, moreso when in a position of leadership. After dealing with shitty leadership during my noob months, I vowed to improve on what they fail at, but despite my best efforts, sometimes I am no better, and that is sad to know that you can't be the leader everyone wants due to your humanity.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

I accidently pressed the wrong macro, and turned IFF off instead of burst fire, in the middle of a fight. The marine in front of me didn't liked it.

that doesnt qualify as a ''failure'' tbh, more like a ''wtf just happened?'' moment

In the good ol'days I was playing XO with no CMD present. Everything is going to shit. Marines are getting donkey punched, tator survivors aboard with the CL covering their tracks, engineering is incompetant, the SM went critical and I told them to ditch it, to which they did at the last second.

There were no other officers present so I A-helped looking for some sort of comfort, but all I got in return was a "you'll be fine"
