Ranks in game

I've noticed that we only use 8-10 of the ranks, and leave some of the more critical ranks out for some reason.

The Ranks being used will be marked with a * (SHIFT+8)

I've made a post before about Company, Platoon, and Squad structures (viewtopic.php?f=135&t=14365) and have shown that almost all these ranks can be utilized. Anyone else feels the same or different, please let me know. I'm always going to be new to this community because I'm not fully a gamer in my respected sense.

Hmmmm... I'm sure one of the main reasons is, we do not have the whole USCM in our ship. I mean.. why would we need an admiral during a standard distress response? For example

True, but that could also be countered with, why do we not have a Company First Sergeant? or even the more common Private First Class. I can understand not having a Sergeant Major, and I can understand not having anything higher than a Captain for Officers. But no Platoon Sergeant? (Sergeant First Class) and if this is supposed to be Marines, why do we have a Sergeant First Class instead of a Gunnery Sergeant? I understand that's just because of Aliens Lore, but still applies when thinking of military ranks and structure.

There is literally 1 job where a Warrant Officer is sadly. Also they don't have that rank on the Wiki for some reason.

Pilots on non carrier ships are mostly WOs, since they can't be picked from the main personnel. So I think POs are technically WOs here.

That makes a sense in this case. I think I'm more bothered by the lack of enlisted ranks. Sergeants are mainly Team Leaders, Staff Sergeants are Squad Leaders. Gunnery Sergeants (Or Sergeant First Class in this case) are Platoon Sergeants. And Privates would never be seen in combat. that's a rank given to you while in boot camp. Starting combat ranks are PFC and LCpl

The wiki, especially ranks, is a bit funky because someone went it and reformatted/redid a lot of what we placed in initially.
As a result, we set the page to protected and it's on the list of pages for a rework, but has not received it yet.

Our standards are PFCs and can be demoted to regular private if the need arises. Other than that considering ranks are tied to job you need a reason as to why we need more sergeant ranks. We are one platoon of marines so I don't think we need company sergeants and what would a platoon sergeant do in game is the question? I can understand wanting to have a completely fleshed out marine structure but what would it add to the game? Technically the Alpha SL is the highest ranking SL in terms of chain of succession for overall command but that such a low possibility of occurring I don't think they need a higher rank for it.

You can actually promote marines to the other sergeant ranks but it doesn't really get used because there isn't a real point to do so. I do remember back in the Sulaco days sometimes a MP would be be promoted to first sergeant or sergeant first class to serve as head MP or a SL would get promoted for doing an ex exceptional job.

Because they are outside the normal "chain of command".

There is no Platoon Leader position. If you are referring to Staff Officers, their job is to direct the squad as they are directed by the Commander.

Oh absolutely the whole thing is wonky when you think in terms of the real marines but we are based on the fictional marines from Aliens and they were a wonky bunch. We see one 8 man squad led by by a sergeant but coordinated by a LT that never leaves the APC and uses their cameras to command. Not to mention that a corporal seemed to have the authority to nuke a planet from orbit, he doesn't get to do but he does make that decision. I think its nice to have that sort of freedom to deviate from real command structure and think what would make for fun or interesting game play. I don't mean to say I'm opposed to having the ranks I just think they need a role to go with them that adds to the game first is all.

It's not based on Marines. It's based on the rank structure I decided to make when we were coming up with it.

Yeah that makes sense, this ship that get's bloodied on an hourly base isn't good enough for an Admiral lol

It's not complicated. Literally everyone else ever has been able to understand it.

I think it would be nice to have a platoon leader to coordinate the squad leaders and be a comms focal point to take some stress off of the SOs

Which the executive officer can pretty much handle if there's a commander aboard, if not there still isn't really a need for that since there's only 4 squads to manage and SO's to watch over them. Don't need another role so much as another SO.

If you look at it realistically. A Platoon Leader leads 4 squads. Platoon Sergeant is 2IC of the Platoon (4 Squads) and after that, it falls to the Squad Leaders. To have a Lieutenant "lead" over 1 squad is just ridiculous.
