Cameras? Useful than useless?
So... I watched Alien: 2 recently and... I saw the marines used the cameras on sentries or they mounted it on the walls and the zeno came and the sentries shoot like a thunderstorm, and i came up with an idea that Squad Engineers should have a device kinda like the PDA but instead its have a feature that can hack into the colony cameras and let you watch them, which is useful in some cases like cameras at Tcomms or engineering (planetside) to let you know what's happening and where are the zenos

No... just no.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Re: Cameras? Useful than useless?
Ehhh, having cameras on the colony could meta a lot, as you know the location of the "zenos" even before deploying.
Also, the cameras are a private property of the colony together with network, I think it would be better and less meta if you have to hack the network via a console planetside.

Let's look at Prison. On Lz1, the Marines have immediate access to cameras. And it's been used before and you would think it be OP. But Xenos simply slash the cameras like they do with everything. It's not gonna give the Marines an edge if there is no functioning camera to use.

Re: Cameras? Useful than useless?
Well, during the Sulaco times, MT's and engineers used to wire the dropships up with camera assemblies so the officers and crew could see what was actually happening on the ground ( since squad leader's usually lost their helmets within 10 minutes of a drop, if not died outright)
If it was a particularly long game, or if their wasnt much to do shipside, i would go wire some cameras in the dropzone itself as an MT.
If i was a combat engineer, i used to grab a toolbox, and fill it with 7 camera assemblies. When my squad stopped moving, i would wire in a new camera for officers to use.
I forgot which mod's had a problem with it, but just before switching to the Alamayer, I remember being yelled at to stop grabbing camera assemblies. Whoever it was was real keen on slamming the brakes on anyone using the asemblies. something about meta rules, and why would an engineer even want to add camera's to the ship.
Personally, i thought that it was kind of a silly line in the sand to draw. Only engineers would ever do it, only 1 out of 10 officers would ever use the cameras, and it was quite the chore to do, real busy body work. But thats imho.
I thought it was a pretty cool gimmick, and that even if 1 out of 10 people ever used it, it was still something that was cool to see.
I kinda wish there was more support for camera's, its my personal opinion that they add alot more to a game then they take away.
- aliens almost always slashed cameras. They fall into the same category as lightbulbs, where if aliens can touch it, they'll break it because why not.
- Using camera networks is really crappy in terms of UI. You have to scroll down a singular list, and hope that your camera is in the proper 123abc order.
- Sadly, their was no night vision/ xray vision. even though you can equip the camera with the proper item for the lens. I could understand why xray wasnt allowed, but i think some green tinted night vision would be cool as heck.
- If a dev fixed the camera network so it was organized by group blocks (1st ship lvl, 2nd ship lvl, hanger, med bay, dropships, etc) i think it would be a pretty cool feature more people would use.
-even better if you could add/remove camera's into custom catagories on the fly, so officers could just make a network that they personally want to patch into. ( As a lighting engineer, i would love if they made it so you can make your own custom camera list, and have people patch in each camera individually, like real life)

Gaze upon me,
for I have wandered deep into the ancient tombs of knowledge to which lie madness and sorrow, cleansing a path for all those who walk behind me...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

Re: Cameras? Useful than useless?
I did mention that we have to HACK the cam from planetside or set up the cam, and place it some where important and cam would have night vision or could be use for CIC to see the ground better since there is some case they lost lz and they don't even know their troops r gone

Re: Cameras? Useful than useless?
How does seeing an ayy help you kill it?
Everyone deploying KNOWS in their bones the types, classes, and evolutions they'll face, and seeing them is just for RP.
If I try to direct forces somewhere, I have to see the correct camera, then identify whoever's close, and then tell them to fight it (which they ALREADY ARE...). This takes too long to be worthwhile in combat.
Decent against human enemies, but not even worthy of using against ayys.
