Command Thread!

Post by DriedMilk » 28 Dec 2017, 03:14

This thread will be used to discuss anything about command! Share tips and strategies, from SLs to COs you're free to give any information for new players on how to manage to command or even give old players extra information!
I'm looking for tips when playing as XO or when needed to go aCO I will be starting to play XO from now on a bit more frequent.

Some tips I would say for Commanding is giving clear, concise orders. You dont need a paragraph for something that could be said in a few words. If you have an extra SO/XO (if you are commander), let them handle things topside or send them groundside. Dont let them sit around. Also, use announcements to give everyone new orders/remind them of their current orders so everyone is caught up to speed.

Definitely use announcements to you tactical advantage, especially in the late-game. Orders given over standard comms become effectively worthless when combat logs are filling the chat window.

Never let marines forget about you or they will not listen to you, but dont just chat with them about boobs and booze (at least if higher than sl) or they will think of you as their equal and will argue and discuss instead of listening and following. Be useful, organize supply drops, help marines if they really need help, they will never "assist bravo by flanking the enemy from west caves" if smartgunner and rpg spec are waiting for ammo and others guarding injured marines because ro is building custom guns and po is busy in maint bar. You may think (for example as so) is only to press supply button, and not to hear what marines need and tell to ro(sl job), to prepare those supplies (ro job) or to tell marines when medivac is coming (po job). It is you who will be asked in the end, so better start organizing departments
You can find me on the battlefield by the name "Liam Compton"

Little bit’a fear of execution usually works well to get marines to shape up. So does comedy.

As an SO I try to keep up chatting to the SL the most. You need an objective done, the SL will get it done.
I have timers for OB/Supply reloading so I can give an approx time for when it's ready. (E.g. 22 mins left I say "Looks about 20 minutes left until it's reloaded!" if asked).

Give useful information to the squad (friendlies close by, hostiles spotted that route, some slow marines at the back. Don't leave them).
Why they're doing the orders (Charlie needs some help. You are that help. Listen to your sl and look out for one another). Helps keep people focused and that they're doing something useful.

Give the SL some time to organise the marines. "Hey y'all needed at hydro" some marines will run off by themselves. Transmitting to the SL let's them organise the squad without the disorganisation of rambos or over eager people.

Communicate with Req clearly. They are a big saving point. Delta squad - Pad - Ammo (M41A, shells, M39), food, metal 200 sheets. Make sure to confirm when they say it's ready.
