living with someone else who plays and being careful of "metacoms"

Post by 420MYK » 03 Feb 2018, 16:01

So me and my mate live together and really really enjoy CM in fact its our main game at the moment and for me at least will be for awhile. Now, Admins aren't dumb they clicked on pretty quick and that was only from us joining at the same time (I think, unless they saw our IP was the same in the server console) and my buddy got a message asking if he lived with another player. He didn't lie and when he told me the admins messaged him i Ahelped to tell them it was me that he lived with. They warned us about meta communicating, which any metagaming we tend to try avoid (exception is when i see that the other side is meta'ing in which case if i'm xeno you can bet i'm targeting those medic hands over a pfc) for the sake of enjoyment, ours and other players (META IS A SHIT WAY TO PLAY GUYS DON'T DO IT THIS ISN'T LEAGUE OF LEGENDS). We tend to try roll for same squad(Deltards all the way) if marine or well both try be xenos where possible and don't tend to share too much info and if we do share anything whether it be something funny that happened or anything else we don't tend to act on it.

BUT i was thinking we cant be the only people on live comms whether its living together or Skype/dissy. color me ignorant if i get this wrong because i haven't tested it because i haven't had a reason too but cant even PFCs use their radios to contact other squads or is that a SL only thing? either way like i said we tend to go for same squads so it doesn't play too much on what i'm about to say but its a valid point. Either way when using in game radios you've got to stop running, fighting, healing or anything else to talk. TALK using your marines mouth or xenos hivemind. Which shouldn't have to stop us (i know voIP isn't possible in this game so we have to make do) so intently. By this point you should know where i'm going with this. Is it so wrong to be able to actually talk to each other as if it were real? Think about in your every day to day life IRL. we can have conversations while doing stuff so why cant our marines or xenos. Yes i know "OH well just learn to type faster" which i've got a pretty good typing speed but its nothing compared to speaking of course and i know there's plenty out there who would have easily half my WPM.

So whats people's thoughts on it? And how do you handle situations like this (i mean its not like were going PFC and xeno and hindering our teams, if anything when ones xeno and ones human the only info we share is "OMG this fucking retard just blew up half the squad" or "FFS JUST WATCH ME DIE THEN STUPID HUNTER" does anyone else actually play with RL mates too?

I'm not trying to petition for metacoms to be fully allowed but just some food for thought for Mods, Admins and the common man too.

Feweh himself said he doesn't mind metacomms as long as it isn't malicious AKA telling your buddy to get you when you are in crit.

Oh thats pretty cool then, yea the admin that messaged my mate said we should be careful but that its not looked down upon that much. i can understand why they'd want to keep track on who's connected to who and such, i mean its not like we hide it when we've spent a round as MedRes and didnt say a word the whole time but worked together perfectly ("Worked" is very loose there as all there is to do in research is make drugs and OD each other if you dont wanna be a spare doc, still enjoy the role and cant wait to see where it goes though) and as marines and xenos we back each other if were in the same squad.

Im the friend who plays in the same house an i find it more difficult to have to stop and message in character to the person 5 feet away then to say it out loud i will repeat myself in chat but it seems very lazy to not talk and only msg people that are in the same room
When a med Researcher gets a fully geared elder pred dragged in by a synth, he thinks i know the best way to research this and what better way than to test it. puts on full pred armor uses a smart disk it targets him (because he is not a pred) it nearly kills him. he heals up the bleeding and goes for a walk forgetting he is still in full pred armor. and in the seige for medbay gets shot at by a few confused marines

Man, I once got a friend to my house and he played on my account.

He literally became allahuh Akbar and blew himself up on the FOB that was getting sieged.

It was great yelling "No man! Careful!" "I AM GOING FOR THE KILL"

Non-malicious metacomms is great.

As someone who plays LoL aswell, I find it kinda strange not to communicate the way I am accostumed to, in a fluid manner. But, with time, you'll begin to see better the differences with... communicating in a game where team interaction is encouraged and metacomms inside a RP enviroment in general. It isn't really a bad thing, only if you do it to tell where the ayys are, or things like that.

Talking with my mate dosent stop me from RPing or interacting/talking with other marines, in fact we still chat and talk IC as well and i actually quite enjoy the RP on the server, you can take it serious when you want and need to and not so much when you dont and there arent too many if any people ive seen who RP "Dickhead" characters which is refreshing. RP aside i love the teamwork focus in this game too and communication and chatting is fun (wanna try SO but dont wanna OB friendlies or some bald shit.) i think itd be cool if CM had a dissy server with the different com channels so you could join the one you got that round (i can see the bans now if it wasnt an application thing). but alas with sometimes nearly 200 people it wouldnt be possible.

Only time we were really bad for it was when we both got med research on lowpop and spent the whole round doing nothing but OD each other and heal without talking once. that was the night before he got the admin message asking about us living together.
