Jane - Spookydonut's App
Byond ID:
spookydonut
Marine Name (so we know who you are; if you play alien mostly, state that here):
Hiedi 'Red' Gomez
Name/Designation of the Synth Character you’re requesting to use (Follows common naming rules, and requires a first name with no last name):
Jane
Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines (viewtopic.php?f=57&t=14417)?
Yes
Synthetic Character Story (An ADEQUATE description and story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission onboard the Almayer):
Professor Adan Howard was a busy, busy man, here he was in a medbay full of wounded and that synth had gone missing again.
"Anyone seen the synth?" He shouted over the ruckus of the crowded surgery hallway.
"I think I saw her duck into the morgue" Came a shouted reply.
Up the ladder he climbed and rushed down the hallway to the morgue, and swiping his card to open the door. And there she was, Jane, leaning over a headless corpse.
"Hmmm, quite interesting" Jane mused to herself, putting down the scalpel on the surgical tray as she stands upright over the body of a deceased marine.
"The tar in their lungs was so thick that it kept the bullet shrapnel entirely contained within the left lung after the initial penetration"
Professor Howard interrupted to ask "Jane, what are you doing with that decapitated marine?"
"I was studying the chest wound on this marine, it's quite a fascinating case actu-"
"Jane we have thirty six marines waiting for surgery, most of them in critical condition, I hardly think a headless marine is the best use of your time and skills at the moment!"
"Professor Howard you appear to be quite stressed, would you like me to administer something to calm you down? Your medical records do have multiple warnings that you should avoid elevating your blood pressure while you adjust to that new synthetic heart."
The doctor begun rubbing their temples, clearly frustrated. "Right now the best way to reduce my stress levels is to get these marines treated and healthy."
Jane visibly shook, poorly emulating the body motion of someone who has been surprised. "Oh, of course, that would seem to be a much more direct way of dealing with the issue."
Taking hold of a gurney with a critically wounded marine strapped to it, Jane moved them quickly to a nearby operating table and began working. Marine after marine, Jane worked quickly and efficiently, clearing the backlog of patients faster than the other doctors, even the Professor being unable to match the speed at which Jane worked.
In what felt like only minutes but on consulting his watch was in reality almost an hour, everyone was in post-operative care with the other doctors doing the last final checks, the Professor was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
"That synth may be troublesome at times, but I'm glad we have her" he mutters to himself.
"I'm happy to be here" came her reply from the other side of medbay.
How do you intend to play your Synth (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your Synth and what support roles you’ll mainly focus on, what is your synthetics quirk)?
Jane is very interested in how humans work both physically and psychologically, sometimes to the point of being slightly too clinical in her actions instead of empathic.
She's more likely to focus on roles that involve interactions with humans rather than machines, so medical, serving the window in cargo, overwatch instead of doing the duties of an MT, moving crates around cargo or being stuck doing research and chemistry. She'll still do jobs as needed or ordered but she'll grumble about it.
How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO)
Very familiar with all roles.
Why should we whitelist you?
I feel like I would make a good addition to the other synth players
Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)?
No
Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?
No
Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
Yes

Hiedi is a favorite of mine in the CM community, and Spookydonut seems like a nice enough person. IC I wouldn't want a medbay without her, so a synth of the same abilities gets a crisp +1 from me!

Your name is definitely familiar, and I recognize Hiedi as a competent and robust character.
I have always had good experiences with you, the story is simple and small, but still, quantity is not quality. +1

+1 Spooky is a good roleplayer and great doctor as Hiedi. I've also witnessed some good mini events by Spooky when I was a doctor.

Re: Jane - Spookydonut's App
I truly do not have much to say to say against the people who make the synths. My one and only problem is "Why should we whitelist you?
I feel like I would make a good addition to the other synth players"
I do not like it very much, does not show much effort... but who could deny spooky's app?

I play as Monday "Scatter" Williams, he is the guy that takes no one seriously, except his good friend, his work.

Re: Jane - Spookydonut's App
Story was pretty short, but at least showed your synth in action. That being said, I'm not big on the quirk. Quirks are things that W-Y purposefully makes each synth with to try and give them a personality and seem more human. While your quirk does accomplish that, it doesn't seem purposeful but rather like a factory defect. Perhaps you wouldn't go so far as to ignore dying people to do something incredibly unimportant, however your story portrays this. Your story seems to be equivalent to the example given in the synth guidelines where a synth is ordered to mop the hangar, however shouldn't continue if there are people literally dying in medical, which makes me concerned how this quirk would actually manifest in game.
As for the player aspect of your app I don't think I'm going to rock the boat in saying that I believe you are a good player and actively improve rounds that you are a part of. You are great to interact with both IC and OOC and I have unwavering confidence you'd make a good synth, however before I vote I'd like to see your response to my observation regarding your story as I feel the example shown violates synthetic programming and guidelines.

Re: Jane - Spookydonut's App
Yeah I'm not quite sure how she ended up in that situation, I think it's more likely she retuned her sensors to better examine the marine during autopsy and wasn't aware of the situation in medbay. In the story the medbay is fully/nearly fully staffed, so it's not like she is just abandoning marines to die through her single-mindedness, I think it's more likely the CMO is enlisting the synth to help because they believe the synth is better at surgery than the other doctors.Wubs4Scrubs wrote: ↑12 Feb 2018, 11:53Story was pretty short, but at least showed your synth in action. Re: Jane - Spookydonut's App
I guess my question to that is what does being 'too clinical' actually mean? Can you give perhaps a more clear example of how that quirk would show during a normal round?spookydonut wrote: ↑12 Feb 2018, 13:15Yeah I'm not quite sure how she ended up in that situation, I think it's more likely she retuned her sensors to better examine the marine during autopsy and wasn't aware of the situation in medbay. She's programmed to attempt to emulate humans as best as she can but ironically has a poor capacity for empathy.Wubs4Scrubs wrote: ↑12 Feb 2018, 15:42I guess my question to that is what does being 'too clinical' actually mean? I guess the best way I can think of summing it up would be "Stop screaming in pain so much, you're making it hard to treat your wounds."

Heidi is one of the most lighthearted and fun people to be around, and they're always helpful to new players joining medical.
On top of all the hardwork you're always doing as a dev for the game, and it's players it's hard to think you'd be a malicious whitelist entry.
Also you're really nice. +1
