What is your favorite method of arresting non-compliant personnel?

Post by Vispain » 15 Feb 2018, 17:46

I understand there are many situations in which a MP may have to arrest a non-compliant perpetrator or perpetrators but lets just assume you have your choice of equipment and preferred, legal scenario in which to make the arrest.

What is your favorite method of subduing the perpetrator with?
For example: tasers, stunbatons, flashes, pepperspray, guns (if fired upon, hostile, Red Alert, etcetra), flashbangs, etcetra.

For ease of response and avoiding debates of USCMJ (which is not the point with this post), just mention the favorite method of subduing the perpetrator. Of course if you feel like taking the risk, mention the scenario as well.

My personal favorite method of subduing a non compliant perp is pepper spray. It works instantaneously, puts the sprayed person in crit for a little bit, and allows plenty of time for you to handcuff.
Of course... the scenario has to be just right for it.

I like tazing for a quick and clean stun. If they ended up trying to shoot me I feed them pepper-spray as a punishment. Using pepper spray on the chase is messy and can easily back-fire.

Throwing the stun baton is very effective and is worth a lot of style points. Thrown stun baton is faster than the taser bolt and harder to dodge. If you manage to click onto their sprite, the baton will also track in the air to hit them. Everyone gets ready to dodge when they see the taser. They think they are safe when you have just the baton out.

Flashes are neat too. Hammer it while it is in your hand to AoE blind everything and then click the guy to instantly stun them.

Tazer for runners. Also has a long stun time.

Flash for when you want to be professional and don't want to be mean to the suspect.

Stunbaton for assholes until you run out of charge.

Main Ways
So...in my experience I've seen "Disrespecting a superior", "Insubordination" and "Neglect of Duty" as the primary ways people get arrested.
Often, it is disrespecting a superior the most that gets someone noticed by a MP or reported by a Command staffer which then leads to the arrest.
Insubordination and Neglect of Duty often go hand in hand and the offender usually repeats the same two crimes later in the operation which, again, is reported by the Staff Officer.

SLs can get arrested for a short time if they leave out their flamer since that is "unsecured equipment." Usually MPs are lenient/don't check this.

Finally, when people misclick....That nade in brief? Thats a arrest right there. That accidental discharge of a gun that, keyword, hit someone? Thats a arrest for assault (which actually isn't as much time as it sounds).

Extra
I've noticed a way MPs can rag on marines is for Minor Weapons Violations. Personally, I order these people to put their gun away three times and if they don't you can subdue them for a Minor Weapons Violation, tell them its a warning for this first offense (First offense for a Minor Weapons Violation is a warning), and then let them go about their day with only a warning and a cramped neck from being flashed to the floor or peppersprayed once. If they do another Weapons Violation then its a timed arrest. Often MPs (including me) will just let you go with a verbal warning so long as you put the gun away and seem compliant. Key reason to mention this is because refusing (either by not doing so or outright refusing) to put away your gun could lead to a arrest for insubordination.*

*Arresting someone for a combo of Insubordination and Minor Weapons Violation (Warning) is beyond rare despite it being technically possible. I've never seen it done and frankly, its a waste of time to even think about arresting people for a combo like this as most Minor Weapons Violations are done by new people, SSD people, gun
over loaded people/specs.

AND SO! In short, if you flip off your SO and insult officers or MPs that is a good way to get arrested for minor time.
Worst things you can do if being arrested is not listen (that is non-compliance = pepperspray/baton/flash), not get on the ground when asked (just rest), run for it, attempt to assault/actually assault the MP arresting you.

Yeah, i went through the gun thing once, i had two m9's in hand and couldn't holster them, told that to the MP and he just said ''Then drop them'' I just dropped them and waited for DS1 to show up and picked them up again and got in, Nothing else happened that round :^)

Taze, cuff, ask questions, take to brig. Done. I shouldn't have to waste my time getting shot with a stray bullet because I'm trying to do my job. Taze and cuff. That's all.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I use the flash as much as possible unless it's a pursuit then I whip out the tazer.

The baton I've only used a few times when the detainee/ suspect is super volatile or abusive and got on my nerves.

Never used the spray.
