Does anyone else like mortars and the new colors for the flames?

Post by Rikman » 22 Feb 2018, 10:18

The blue and green color types of fuel really make it all the more interesting, while mortars can probably wipe out 3 xenos at a time if they're lucky. This just makes spec way more worthwhile than it was before.
This update is badass.
“Here is the wild Homo Sapien hunting its prey. The humanoids are pack hunters, using their shoddy armor as a pitiful defense against the towering Insecta. The human is quickly downed by the Insecta’s powerful slash. But, sheer numbers of humanoids rampage the abuser and Insecta is eventually burned to death, beaten, and dismembered.”

Yet to try flame spec, been waiting for this update for a year.

Mortars are good, and could probably be even better if you have robust spotters and dialers.

Extra: The first mortar shot fired was FF. The real way to christen new weapons.

I love mortar. I got 8+ confirmed direct hits, and at least 10 confirmed kills with it IN ONE ROUND(I would have had more but I DCed. I think me and the spotter got a medal, I know we were recommended.). The spotter was amazing though, he did all the work. I will kill for that position again.

The mortar is a great centerpiece for marines to build a base around.

Here's a super cool thing that Emily Strauss and Natalie Holderman built (I think it was them anyways). The racks of different shells are a nice touch, but the map on the table is 10/10 immersion.

Here is the first mortar round. Note that Charlie Squad was Chosen for FOB duty (suck it alpha). Also note us all staring at the mortar instead of actually being productive.

I was a boiler first mortar round, and I was the God of all mortars the second. I demand only I can have this holy weapon of mass destruction.

Mortars are neat, but maybe not always needed at roundstart? Or at all if you don't have a reliable forward spotter.

It was rough this last round, seeing requests for more shells when I counted twenty-six on the ground at one point. Plus the FF. Mysteriously there were never points in the Req budget for metal so that the FOB could extend outside the LZ.
I usually play as Henri Leroux, but I was once known as Elite Boiler (420).

Yeah, mortar is good with competent people coordinating with and manning the mortar. Otherwise, you have rounds where mortar team uses flash shells to check for offset in the FRONTLINES.

The mortar is a very effective weapon, provided that you have a spotter who's decent, and a decent mortar controller.
The point cost being 160 however, makes it prohibitive. At the very least, the mortar should come in a box containing at least some ammo, to lessen the point impact.

The second round after Mortars were introduced (AKA right after the first round with them, in case you were confused) (On Ice colony) me (John 'Goliath' Weaselburg) and Dothgar 'Fire' Folk were the mortar crew, with me manning it and him spotting. We completely obliterated the aliens, until we ran out of harming shells, and started scaring them with flares, smokes, and flashes after that. Only missed two shots, and those were not even live fire (They were a flare and a flash, and were also my first two shots)

We were recommended for medals, but I DCed before round end so no idea if I got one.

The problem is that people just go nuts firing shells without really understanding how it works

I don't remember doing that, but it might have been Delta? They had a Mortar as well.

That was me, I really enjoy making mortar pits if I get engi with the mortar. That round specifically I fired one shot to test the offsets, but never fired a shot after that - also no offense to Emily but I was the one who built it, she was just there.

I was the SG there, and was beat by one step for the achievement of taking a direct mortar hit.

Couldn't hear for ages, and, more hilariously, everyone near it had to emote tapping their ears for several minutes as everyone spoke to them.
