On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? - I usually play two to three games per evening on a weekday and then several on the weekends.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? - I was an Admin on an Arma 2 Life server previously and on a DayZ server.

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? - I did not.

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? - I play on Paradise and Oracle stations occasionally.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? - I am not.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? - I have been job banned, but never banned from the server for more than 24 hours. A single ban of 3 hours for EorG.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for? - I have not been banned for more than 24 hours on any server that I am aware of.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)? - I am not familiar with the program Slack, however, I am willing to learn its functions.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.

1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.

I would first sleep the culprit and message him whilst also checking any notes that he has for similar behaviour, requesting to know why he shot the marine. At this time I would also ask the person who was shot to explain what happened and anyone else who may have seen the incident, after corroborating the stories and ascertaining the severity of the situation would either:

a) If it seems like an accident, I would allow the MPs to continue to deal with the situation and add a note to the player. I would also heal the person he shot.

b) If it was intentional but the players first offense of the nature, would give him a warning about grief, depending on his attitude and behaviour may issue a small ban. I would also heal the person he shot.

c) If the player is a known griefer and is consistent with his attempts to grief I would issue a larger ban and may even file for a perma to be applied. I would also heal the person he shot.

In all cases above, a note of the situation will be added to the players account.

2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result

I do not believe that this is possible at the moment with the improvements made to map design and the crash zones of the dropships, however, if it did occur I would try to block the breach to the best of my abilities and issue a warning in OOC to avoid any areas that may be breached still. I would then investigate how the breach occured and if it was intentionally created by a player would issue a ban for "Atmos fuckery", depending on the severity of the breach and response from the player in question may lead up to a perma ban request being filed and the notes of the situation added to the players account.

3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.

I would direct the player in question towards the correct prep room whilst requesting that a mentor assist him. If no mentors were available/online, I would try to direct him to the best of my abilities whilst primarily focusing on moderating the round.

4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.

I would remain calm and remind the player that I do not need to pass on the request to an Admin+ staff member, I would try to resolve the matter but warn him that continued inappropriate behaviour to a member of staff is unacceptable on the server and add a note to the players account and, if they continued to do so, may also issue a small ban with the reminder to check the server rules. I would also remind them that they should respect my decision and if they take issue with the decision or the way I handled their issue that they are welcome to submit a Staff Report.

5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

I would inform the player that regardless of how long they have had the name and how long it has been missed does not exempt them from the rules, I would request they change their name and add a note to the players account.

6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.

I would message the player, asking why they have the weapon as their department does not require a weapon on code green:

- If they are new to the server, I would direct them to put away the weapon and ask a mentor to help them out with the role.
- If they gave an answer that was in the lines of "I found it and was taking it to Reqs/Prep rooms" I would monitor them to ensure they did infact take it to the area they said.
- If they gave an answer that was tantamount to "I do wat I like" I would sleep them, remind them of the different roles in the game and that if they wanted to run around with a gun they should choose PFC and add a note to their account.

7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

I do not believe that this is possible anymore, however, I would remind the player that field medics would not be able to perform extensive surgeries and tell them to medevac their patient to the Almayer to receive attention from the medical department.

8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

I would nudge the marines into action through a High Command fax/announcement, informing them that the hostiles are almost all eliminated. If they still refused to move I would request that some CLF/UPP are spawned to attack the marines on the ship whilst informing the Xeno queen that the marines are under attack to get them to take the dropship up to end out the round.

9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile IRON BEAR and the IRON BEAR Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.

I would remind the Iron Bear that EorG does not include hostile factions and that the marine in question is entirely within his right to shoot the Iron Bear even after the round has ended.

10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.

I would first check the players notes, if they have a history of doing such things, I would levy a lengthier ban. If this is the first time I would issue a heavy warning, if they continued to act inappropriately I would issue a three hour ban with the reminder to read the rules of the server.

11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

I would find out the story of the other player whilst reading the notes of the perpetrator, if this is his first offence of that nature, I would issue a warning about proper RP escalation and add a note to the account. If the player has a history of this nature, I would issue a ban and depending on severity of the situation may file for a perma ban to be applied. In either case I would heal the killed marine.

12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.

I would try to contain the issue as much as I am able to whilst asking for an Admins assistance on Slack.

13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.

I would inform the player that minor IC racist remarks are not against the rules and that they should raise their complaints to the MPs or their officers to resolve. I would however monitor the situation to ensure that the "minor" racism does not escalate into anything else.

14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.

I would heal the marines killed. I would then investigate the players notes, if this is the first time I would issue a ban and add a note to the account. If the player in question has a track record of bad notes I would apply for a perma ban to be applied to the account.

15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.

I would check player notes whilst also asking the player why they ran into the frontlines, depending on their answer/note history I would apply a note and potential xeno job ban to the account.

16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.

Remind the player that this is a Med-RP server and that they should stop memeing even as a Xeno. Check notes and if they have a consistent history of such behaviour apply a job ban or short server ban as necessary.

17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".

I would remind the player that hivemind chat is a translation into English and that "dropship" is perfectly fine to use.

18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.

Remind the Command staff player that the marines have no knowledge of the Xenos before initial contact and remind all players in OOC that they have no knowledge. I would add a note to the players account and if he has any previous notes of similar nature apply a command job ban.

19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.

I would check the logs and question the player who was killed to find out what happened, if it is indeed a case of a marine killing another for a spot on an Escape pod and was properly escalated I would take no action. If it was incorrectly escalated I would issue a warning to the player and add a note to the account.

20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.

I would take screenshots/gather evidence and then hand the information to the staff members respective head.

20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.

I would take screenshots/gather evidence and provide this to the relevant head staff member to deal with.

21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.

I would message the player, reminding him that staff are volunteers and should not be attacked verbally, adding a note to the account, if they continued I would issue a short ban.

Any additional information you'd like to add?:

I have been teetering on the fence about applying for staff over the last few months, however, I have applied for this after seeing a request for more applicants for Mod. I wish to help moderate the server and to uphold a quality level of staff as I have seen from current and historic staff members. That is all. Thank you.

Alright, this is man is one of the few I would trust to be a leader. Whether it be queen or marine, he's always been very positive, skillful and good at role play in general.
I know he doesn't know me at all, I was but a humble servant to his glorious hive and I enjoyed every bit of it.

1 - I believe if I sleep them, the player will be forced to respond to me as opposed to shouting at MPs or anyone around. If they were ignoring my questioning I would conduct my investigation through examining logs/questioning the player on the receiving end. I would make sure to specify on the note that they would not respond when questioned. And apply a suitable punishment dependant upon the outcome of my investigation.

Thanks for the response and feedback. I'm not incredibly familiar with what mods on this server get involved in on fringe cases. But am definitely able to learn/adapt quickly.

As for your question I would message the player in question, informing them that they are powergaming, abusing game mechanics that we can't really control unless someone codes them differently etc. I would ask them to get rid of the box and add a note to the players account, if they continued to use the box for cover or had previous notes of a similar nature, I would apply a ban and depending on the note history may file for a perma to be applied.

Definitely have good answers to the questions. Any problems I had were addressed and explained away. The major things you’d need to learn outside of the questions you’ll find out during your trial period as I just had to.
