Rule 0 and common sense
Some (all) may know me be being a whiny bitch on the forum or maybe had to interact with me as being part to the "administrator" of this fine game. It's funny that when the later are interacting with me it goes two way ; I did break a rule/did some bat shit crazy thing/insulted (not calling you an asshole, but really mean shit y'know, AN INSULT) and i go with it. It's when I the second thing happen that i get cocky. [let me pull some facts on my time playing this game] I got 8 recorded "felonies" {we shall call them} on the server. 10 with yesterday's event....well this morning i guess. See, the problem was : "i went down planetside without permission". The thing is : I didn't go down there with any ill intention, had no CMO, XO barely acknowledge my request and i didn't go running around the map like an ape.[that's false, i totally did because my Character was pissing himself with fear, i saw ONE runner in the FOB and ran the hell back to the ship crying my life away] Then i got accosted by a friendly policemen.... ho wait no, that's irl. All of it was acted ICcly. By the time i was in the Alamo waiting to go back, i was IC and got PM for the 1st time....
My problem with the whole deal is when imposing these "laws". You see, policemen don't have all the right and most of them are just not stupid enough to try a wrongful arrest [maybe down in the states they are stupid enough]. We don't have this here. People in position of power [not all of you i know and don't blame everyone] here are not all great decision maker and some take little to no consideration regarding the "problem" itself. In resume, it was 3:45 am here, was bored playing research [after helping a baldie learn some chemistry for a while]. I ask perms. to go down to fetch some sample, since RPing Research with 80< population who didn't really gave a fuck was hardly fun. Had half a respond "Why?" from XO. Since i had no further response, since power was becoming an issue, i decided to go down saying ; Dr. Giovanni Jenkins says, "On my way down, will be going back up if i must". At any point, anyone would have ask me to leave or stay in the Alamo and i would have complied no question ask. At any point i would've returned and not cry about it. I did not go around on planet running everywhere. I stayed in the FOB. Even managed to be waiting for the Alamo before being ask "Can you tell me why you are on the planet?"......
Why do i get confronted by him ? Did anyone really aHelp reporting my presence on the ground ? or did he happen to be here and got curious? It's 3:45... one trial mod on and one mentor... and i get shit on for going 10 mins on planet all IC... he PMed me when i was going back up. I could have some brig time, be deal IC [ho yeah.... SOMEONE did try really really hard to go put me in cryo against my will, while i was PMing i was IC also with the rest of the game] but no... straight job ban because i already did this some time ago and it's funny how i did not make a fuss about it, i was wrong last time, really.
Dealing with people with the hammer is easy, with common sense, not so much. Maybe the way people are handled in such situation could improve... Being the second real game played after April's fool, i did get mad after 10 mins of BS. Job ban for a thing that could have easily be dealt in-game is overkill.

So when things don't go your way, you make another salty post. I'm sorry we don't cater to each and every need of yours, but rules come first.

Re: Rule 0 and common sense
Rules are no subject of discussion. This is a private community, not a democacry, you have no property right on it or anything. You are considered as a player AND a visitor. Which mean you obliged to abide to the rules there, and respect them.
You are clearly in the wrong, this is no IC problem, this is OOC problem, non-fighting roles are not allowed to go down without permission, and if they have, they cannot leave the FOB. Other players ignoring you is bad, but eh, not having the authorization is like being refused to go down too. You were in the wrong.
You clearly shouldn't make a post about it.

Man, just, good lord. You broke the rules so just accept the punishment. Don't go off the deep end over it kiddo.
If you'd just given it some time, not been all uppity in the ahelps and posted a really really bad report on the fourms, as well as this post, you prolly could have appealed the ban in just a few weeks and got it removed. But no, you had to go and do this. It's time to stop.

Re: Rule 0 and common sense
Where to begin.
First of all, let's put down Rule 0 so we all have a common understanding of the topic. Given that it is about "Rule 0 and common sense"
Rule 0. Admins (not Mentors or Mods) retain the authority to ignore the enforcement of specific rules at their discretion when they feel it is in the best interest of the current round, the server, or the player base at large. However, they are fully accountable for their actions when they exercise this privilege. Additionally, if an Admin says something is a rule or to do something a specific way and you disagree, FOLLOW WHAT THEY SAY AND MAKE A COMPLAINT ON THE FORUMS. If you don't want to make a complaint about it, make a discussion topic in general. Do not argue and disrupt the round. If you do argue excessively, you will receive a ban, or extension on your ban.
Now, about your complaint, since it sounds to me like one. There's not really much ground to debate any of our standing rules, you're just complaining that we are enforcing the rules strictly in general.
Yeah, admins tend to interact with specific players for either of three reasons. Adminbus/being congratulated (very uncommon, but happens, we do spectate afterall), pinging for offenses (common) or pinging as a witness/victim of offenses (part of staff procedures). We don't randomly PM people to have casual chit chat with them. So if we pinged you a lot recently, it means you were in either of three cases. Visibly the second.
We do keep records of offenses for further administrative investigation, including records of bans. This is not persecution nor hounding down specific players. This is how we organize the playerbase, so we have a papertrail when we are accusing people of repeat offenses/"knowing better", or inversely of being a newbie and deserving some leniency. If you have 10 notes, to your claim, didn't have the time to check, you're not a newbie by a stretch and are expected to follow the rules. Every note comes from an exchange with a player, except extreme cases, so it's not like we've been secretly tarring you.
The rule you are claimed to have broken is the following. Marine-specific rules, 8.
8. Non-Combat members of the Almayer Crew may leave the ship, IF they have clearance from their department head and the acting commander. They are restricted to the FOB only. Not getting clearance or leaving when told not to WILL result in a Job Ban. Exception: The Liaison. He can leave even if specifically told not too (resolved as an IC issue).
You admit you did go down on the ground, and did not bother to get proper confirmation from the XO, which was probably in that case the Acting Commander. This is standard procedure, playing CMO I had to deny Researcher deployments because the CO said no. The XO did not give you a partial approval, or a quarter of an approval. He asked you the motive for your deployement, pending approval. You decided to take it as granted for whatever reasons, apparently communications/power issues. This is a rule break as stated in rules.
As soon as you break a rule, we enforce the rule. It's very explicit. Job-ban. It doesn't matter how we discover the rule break. Direct report from a player, witnessing it while observing, IC hearsay, or even omniscience. And as Rule 0 states, Mods don't get to ignore the enforcement of specific rules (clearly stated: Admins, not Mentors or Mods).
I'm not going to delve deeper into the subject because it is part of an open staff report, but to put it simply, you've broke a rule, and got punished for it. Plenty of other people have been punished for it, took it standing up, and appealed for their job-ban later when they appreciated the rule they broke.
Now, if you want to discuss the actual rule, you're free to do so. But this seems to be a general complaint about staff rule enforcement, and how, to my interpretation, we should chill out and let be, even when rules are being openly broken. That is really not how it works here, but I'm sure other staff will let you know.

Re: Rule 0 and common sense
"RP" or "I acted this out ICly" is not an excuse to break rules. If we allowed people to break rules because "RP" everyone would use that as an excuse to do whatever they want.
Now, there are times where particularly good RP happens that may warrant playing looser with the rules. A moderator is expected to apply their best judgement when applying rules and as you quotes in your staff report, they are allowed to BEND the rules to preserve the enjoyment of the server. That does not mean that they can allow you to break the rules because you think it would be fun.
Rule 0 on the other hand is a power Admins have to waive one or several rules within reason. However, you are not entitled to an admin applying rule 0 because you think that your actions are deserving of special consideration. The usage of that rule is left to the discretion of the Admin. If an Admin decides to apply rule 0 to your actions, lucky you, but you should NEVER count on it and always follow the rules unless instructed otherwise by an Admin.
The best way to avoid being punished is to follow the rules.

I'm actually kind of shocked you aren't either forum banned or perma banned yet. Your attitude in PMs and on the forums is despicable and has been so for a long time.

Re: Rule 0 and common sense
Rule zero is for cases when admin is doing something outside of rules, or you are doing something outside of rules and admin gave you SPECIAL ONE TIME permission.
Unless this is one of those two cases - you do not apply for rule 0.
Also, yes you are talking about your fun, but what about others? That's why we have rules

Re: Rule 0 and common sense
Rule 0 is something admins can use at their own discretion. It means that they may decide to spawn things, host events, tell deadchat to shut up about something or, rarely, not punish someone for something that would have otherwise broken the rules.
It's not something you have a right to. The admins have no obligation to use rule 0 and let you continue your antics. You are not entitled to special treatment.
And admins are the only ones that can make use of rule 0 anyways.

Re: Rule 0 and common sense
Also. Quite important note. The person you were talking to was Trial Moderator.
Which means he has NO rule 0 authority even if they wanted. We still have rule 0.3 (listen to mods tractate of rules) and rule 1 (don't argue over resolution in game) active for trial moderators and we never have them alone moderating server (because we are awesome)

Stop making salty posts anytime someone says something bad on Your reports.
Stop comparing us to cops also. In fact, just stop all of the things. I'll officially resolve your report soon.
