The Aftermath

Post by Thatnewguy1 » 16 Apr 2018, 15:58

And with that, the 5th box enters its metal tomb and in a slow and painful movement, the tomb is sealed off from the world by a large metal sheet. After a pregnant minute, the cold tomb resonates a weak warmth and a pale streak of red shows from the edges of the sheet over the entryway of the tomb. The Dance of cinders can be heard from inside the cold tomb. A quiet, tame sparking of the embers singing a sorrowful song as they dance across the box inside the tomb. A single ember once trapped in the cage escaped its cold tomb and landed on the floor in front of the cold metal hollow it was born in. It sat on the floor, burning with a strong radiance that seemed to negate the cold aura of the room. The ember grew brighter and brighter and revealed hundreds of other boxes like the one in the tomb now, one of which he was carrying now. He looked over the box that was decorated with a black flag with a white insignia decorating it. across from him stood a large shadowy figure with a strangely feminine face. It was staring back at him, meeting his eyes with its own. The quiet cracking of the tomb began to be drowned out by a muffled voice that resonated across his eardrums. it grew louder and louder before he finally was able to make it out as it was almost deafening him.
"Dad?"

In an instant, the face took form as one belonging to a young teenage girl. the indistinguishable surface his eyes were locked with was now filled with features, namely, two concerned blue eyes that made his stomach churn in thought as to what brought about this look. The room was no longer a cold black room filled with boxes, it was now a large comfy living room filled with furnishings that decorated the room, all of which was enveloped in a large warm embrace from a large cracking fireplace that lay safely stored behind a metal cage designed to catch loose embers. He no longer held a large cumbersome box as it was now a small log.

"Dad" the voice calls again, "That's enough firewood, the cinders are escaping," She says as she points to the smoldering remains of a red-hot coal that burned a black marking onto the carpet.

Scanning the room "I, uh, sorry sweetie. I was just, cold, thought it needed some more." he unceremoniously lies.

"Hm, are you sure that was it? you have been acting kinda weird lately."

"Yeah, yeah I'm okay, nothing to worry about"

"Alright, uh, I just helped mom make dinner, we're having steak tonight, you want any?"

"Sirloin, medium-rare?"

"Cooked just as you like it."

"that's my girl."
