Experimental Smooth Movement Discussion
Looking for feedback on the new smooth movement I'm testing out. General experiences, concerns, bug reports and all that. Thanks!
Known Bugs:
- Ctrl+Arrow no longer turns in the direction you want to face. *FIXED*
- Monkeys can't be shot. *FIXED*
- Lobby panel is broken (not actually due to the movement update but it started happening the round before so close enough) *FIXED*

Re: Experimental Smooth Movement Discussion
I don't really see a difference. Not much more lag, and it feels a little smoother yes

Yeah, movement feels horrible as hell. I don't know what you guys call smooth but it feels like I'm playing with 400 ping.

Horrible how specifically? Also, are you playing a Marine or Xeno? If Xeno, what caste?Butlerblock wrote: ↑03 May 2018, 19:18Yeah, movement feels horrible as hell. I don't know what you guys call smooth but it feels like I'm playing with 400 ping.

I was also playing hunter, but I could not do it with larvae or runner either

Yeah, before I was in the round as a ghost movement felt fine.

Re: Experimental Smooth Movement Discussion
If you're saying movement is feeling weird just because of not being able to Crtl+Arrow Key to turn, that's fixed next round.

Re: Experimental Smooth Movement Discussion
Can confirm, felt like molasses. Visually, it was kinda like you would pause for the smallest fraction of second on each tile no matter how fast you were moving. Elite Hunter with Empress frenzy was a trip, just stuttering around at lightspeed.Butlerblock wrote: ↑03 May 2018, 19:18Yeah, movement feels horrible as hell. Made some precision tactics easier, like corner tackling ambushes becuase the faux-discrete movement made things more predictable. Dut dodging and running around the fronlines inspired a sense of panic because of the impression that movement inputs were somehow delayd.
I can get used to it, just a bit discombobulating at times right now.

Re: Experimental Smooth Movement Discussion
Runner speed seems a bit weird, occasionally going at lightspeed (possibly lag). Frenzy seems to be much more effective, which is good.
This is a medal of valor. Awarded to: 'Squad Marine Cameron 'Lucky' Richard'. The citation reads 'For diving into the enemy headlong to rescue two marines from certain death.'.
Military Police Cameron Richard is awarded the distinguished conduct medal: 'For taking Requisitions during a time when no RO or CT was active.'.

Vehemently anti-pred, always will be.

Re: Experimental Smooth Movement Discussion
Tried playing as a runner and I felt like I was moving about as fast as an armored marine, maybe just a smidge faster. It was quite odd, as a marine without armor, I've gone far faster than that. 170ms ping at the time.
Odd thing? When moving over a laid out cable over weeds, I move at lightspeed instead.

Re: Experimental Smooth Movement Discussion
Nope, it's like, I get massive speed in some areas of the map (Like the top-right part of LZ1 in bigred, where the console is), but super slow elsewhere (the right side, near tcomms).Butlerblock wrote: ↑04 May 2018, 20:06Just wait til ancient, movement speed spike for some reason got changed from mature > elite to elite > ancient
I'm stumped. I thought it was pherormones, but it happened even alone, so. Dunno. Lag fluctuations?

Yeah, xenos are just slow and unresponsive now. Cant dodge anything reliably and a standard marine in full armor will just keep pace with mature runners and hunters.

My .ping is 0.28 so it might be my issue.
I feel Ancient hunter speed got nerfed

Young Rav faster/smoother than Mature Rav

Runner on Queen's frenzy is faster though.

Got to ancient runner and noticed a huge speed increase. Faster than older ancient runners.

Re: Experimental Smooth Movement Discussion
The speed problem is very easily seen with the elite queen charge:
First do it without frenzy pheremones: Your max speed will be that of an unarmoured human. Absolute garbage.
Then, turn on frenzy pheremones (even a drone's frenzy will do). You will still be very slow until you hit maximum momentum, at which point your speed will very suddenly and very noticeably spike. I didn't get a chance to test with crushers, but I imagine that crushers with queen frenzy would behave very similarly.

Drone hugger combat is suddenly very viable, I see them doing it all the time. It feels like drones are much faster now.

Bug is still here. Ancient runners are ridiculously overpowered right now. Why hasn't this been fixed yet? should be top priority
