Discord event pings?
Okay, I've posted this on Git before, but missing a recent event prompted me to bring this up again.
My original Git suggestion to add event alerts was closed because "events aren't scheduled", with one part of it ignored. So, here we go again - would it be possible, and would anyone else like to see a simple channel added to Discord for the sole purpose of event alerts? Admin wants to do event, posts into channel - people who care join and have fun. Something as simple as that could draw in more people who are actually interested in events, those who'll get creative during such a round and potentially bump up the enjoyment for the whole server.
What do you think?

Admin can notify people in before event round starts if they wish so, nothing forbids them from doing so.
Most admins however do not share that event is going to happen to keep event unexpected and interesting

Re: Discord event pings?
I must partly disagree with that. Events made when there's "expanded" mode chosen can be called expected events as it's obvious that this game mode is never a bait. This just really prevents people from taking part in event.NethIafins wrote: ↑20 May 2018, 15:49

As for the more sneaky events, when normal map is chosen, there is a simple solution to keep them sneaky. Admins/mods/other staff members could announce it when some time in-game passes, for example, if marines would make contact with event characters or something important happens that reveals the event, it just depends on admin. This way will simply keep the surprise element and will let more people join, also making event more intense.
As you said, they can, but it wouldn't be necessary, this too depends on a staff member.NethIafins wrote: ↑20 May 2018, 15:49

In my opinion, it could really be a nice addition for people that would like to take part in an event and see something different from normal Xeno vs Humans (eventually Pred) rounds. Announcing it shouldn't be enforced, but if someone has need or is in mood to announce it, then it would be cool.

Re: Discord event pings?
I typically search for event members a round in advance and ping them to ask if they want in on an event.

Re: Discord event pings?
I think the best thing to do would be to add an 'Event' role on discord that players could opt to add to themselves or not. This way, when an event is being set up, admins can send "@Event 'Event in 10 mins, log on for some fun'", which would notify any players that opted to have the Event tag.

Re: Discord event pings?
Ha, no. We, or at least I pull from a group of people I either know as good RPers or go around asking people with decent note histories. Having an event tag means that everyone would just opt into it and never remove themselves from it.adrenalinetooth wrote: ↑21 May 2018, 01:29I think the best thing to do would be to add an 'Event' role on discord that players could opt to add to themselves or not. Re: Discord event pings?
But what's the problem with never opting out? You could personally pull good RPers to cast them as important event roles, while the simple folk could just use the tag to simply join and enjoy that event. Come on, it's not that hard to make some discord changes, right?Snypehunter007 wrote: ↑21 May 2018, 17:35Ha, no. Re: Discord event pings?
By making a discord thing that ANY player can pop into, it negates the process of pulling good RPers for an event because you can't guarantee the quality of the RP. I check both the notes and try to observe the players the round prior to the event to see if they have just a decent understanding of RP.cre77 wrote: ↑28 May 2018, 04:04But what's the problem with never opting out? Any player could join the group, as you're suggesting it, and I don't even know if discord staff and heads would want to make it.

Re: Discord event pings?
We will not be adding any new roles to the discord. We already have a list of players that we know will RP role well, so we would not need an Event Role tag. And if we really wanted to announce an event coming up. We will use @here on #general to let players know that there is an event going on, that is if there wasn't already a long list of players spamming "EVENT."

Re: Discord event pings?
Then why can't there be a channel called event-pings where the admins just go "@here Event starting"? There are people like me that aren't on the special people list and still want to catch events without having to wait them out 24/7.
