Let's talk about that tank ladder

Post by Brotemis » 23 May 2018, 12:16

So, with new updates comes new changes in the meta. That being said, I am thoroughly disgusted by what is happening now with Almayers defense when xenos launch the dropship.

People are now barricading the single ladder that leads down to to the tank quarters. It is such a massive choke point set up in a 2 x 2 square that literally nothing can break it. 40 xenos vs 70 marines? Xenos dead.

This reeks of power gaming and what is even worse is the players who barricade it then gloat marine major and say they completely earned it.

My hope is that we move away from using that area as a defense. There is no doubt this is abusing mechanics and limitations of the game. There needs to be another set of ladders of xenos need to be able to force the elevator down or jump down the shafts to the floor below.

I mean it clearly needs to be changed, and I imagine most of the staff team agrees. I doubt it'll stick around for much longer, here's hoping at least.

it is powergaming, right now, from what i last saw we are considering it bug abuse and discouraging it until we fix it. Dev is constantly working on balance issues that we need to see play out in order to repair. This is one.

Well, I can see why marines are doing it. With the new defenders and warriors being (Seemingly) super OP they're just trying to find a way to counter them

But it should be fixed when Defenders and Warriors are fixed

My thing is what-aboutism isn't an acceptable excuse for breaking marine law or other rules, nor is it an excuse as a response. This just kind of shows some players true nature that they only care about killing. How much fun is it for the marine players if there is no counter-play or danger? How much fun is it for the xenos? None for either side.

To be really fuckin' honest right now. The Ladder is easily countered because the Queen merely needs to go down, screech whilst other Xenos come from above, and untill the screech stun wears off the Queen has already climbed back up whilst 3cades got downed by all Xenos combined, if they co-ordinate it right they can easily wreck the strategy and it isnt even that cuck / hard of a powergame strat because its really fuckin' easily countered. To fortify the Vehicle Hangar itself takes up A TON of metal, and i mean A TON. Its hard at end-round to even gather up so much scrap to make a SINGLE line of cades back there. And single-line cades can be easily countered again by the Boiler's acid blob, it crosses one line of cades easily and sometimes even a second. Defenders can leg-trip and stun marines with their tail-swoop too if they're right up against the cades which most bald or normal marines are.

Overall my opinion, Marines are just using a way to counter-cheese the cheese. Besides, if the M56D of the round where the Xenos got cheesed wasn't there, the story would've been overall different Anyway because the M56D is perfect for small rooms or corridors. A Pulse rifle with AP isn't half as good as a M56D.

It is powergaming, but worse yet, it's logically the best decision any commander in the field would make. Neither CIC nor the SD have that strong of a chokepoint, the two places on the Almayer that are suppose to have supreme importance to the ship. They both have two doors, and a set of walls that can be melted at least -- the CIC is even more vulnerable, with the ladder from the Brig.

In contrast, the ladder is the only access point to the lower decks, which means it's much easier to control the flow of battle and reinforce that one narrow access point. Any commander worth their salt would be an idiot not to try to bait them into that position, and a Queen screech doesn't give the xenos the ability to tear apart two sets of barricades and wipe out the entire marine force -- hell, the Xenos have to already be down there to make the most use of the screech time, and they can only climb done one by one.

Unless all humans are idiots, marines are assured victory in every round, without admin intervention.

I think it can be fixed if the devs decide to add more areas to the lower deck and add a chance for the DS to crash there. Solving the problem by adding more features

This is still a team deathmatch server, you can label it "Medium RP" or put "RP" in the beginning and in the end of the name but won't change it's a team deathmatch and most of the players, because the forums are like 1/3 of the whole community, only play for the kills and the victory. And there's nothing wrong about it.

What can be fixed will be fixed, this, being one of those things, to prevent a side to 'cheat' all the times or just stomp the other side all the times.

But can't blame players who enjoy the game in their own way, or force them to change it. That's the reason buffs/nerfs/fix and tweaks exist.

This would be one way to fix the issue, along with another ladder. So long as the computer in the hanger is permanently powered to allow for operation. I think the elevator, in it's current position, may have issues if used as an entry for Xenos, but that's something to look at if the vehicle bay as a whole is examined for potential balance changes.
