Amelie Beatrix - Commander Application
Byond ID : Bulaven

N/A
Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines? :
Certainly, as it should be.
Do you understand how the Battlefield Execution functions? :
Of course. The Battlefield Execution (BE) is a privilege to be used only under extreme circumstances. To use it is to make a summary judgement on the fly, and, as it may only be used against individuals who are deemed a danger to the mission as a whole, one must be absolutely confident in their reasoning.
Do you understand you are not above Marine law, or allowed to enforce it yourself? :
Yes. Marine Law is intended to be enforced by the Military Police and their Warrant Officer. All personnel, including the Commander, -Must- adhere to Marine Law. There are no exceptions.
What do you think is the job of a Commander? :
Simple: To lead. The men and women under the Commander represent the inner machinations of the Marine Corps. The Commander is the observer of this finely tuned machine. The Commander is to lead. To set an example. To offer guidance and discipline to those who fall under his or her command. To be the Commander is to take responsibility for the well-being of every soul aboard the ship. The glory, and the burden of duty, are the Commander's to have. On a more personal note, the Commander's job may also entail the careful balance of risk and reward. Completing the mission, while sparing as many lives as might be possible for the next mission. If this is not possible? The losses fall solely upon the desk of the Commander. They are the deFacto 'Atlas' of the Marine Corps.
If a member of your staff is disobeying orders, how would you handle it? :
Frankly, it would depend upon the situation. If a Doctor is refusing to obey orders -Not- to distribute narcotics, it would obviously be a situation for the MPs to handle. If a Tech Sergeant is refusing to perform his alotted work, instead opting to construct a bar room in the maintenance passages, likewise, the MPs would be left to handle it. However, in a more mission-critical scenario, such as a Squad Leader refusing to lead their Marines to a feasible objective, the Squad Leader would be removed from his or her post, and ordered to return to the Almayer. If continued refusals were to arise, MPs would be sent to detain the Leader. They would then, depending on the severity of their actions (Ranging from mildly seditious to outright mutineering) possibly face a Battlefield Execution, but more than likely just spend an extended period in the Brig. If, say, a Lieutenant in the CIC was refusing to perform their duties, they would be referred to the MPs. If the Lieutenant endangered the lives of the Squad entrusted to his or her care with their beligerent and negligent behavior, they may face a Battlefield Execution for causing the undue deaths of Marines under their command.
In short: Most situations may easily be handled by the MPs, or remedied with a stern warning. However, during combat scenarios, where lives -Will- be lost to poor decisions or refusal to obey orders, the offending individual, if deemed a viable threat to the operation, may face a Battlefield Execution.
Why should you be whitelisted? :
I have been Roleplaying on this server for somewhere around two years, now. I've seen Commanders come and go, seen the structure changed and changed again. I've seen enough of both sides of the road to have a somewhat stable idea of what soldiering from the top of the Totem Pole is about. Having thirteen years of Roleplaying Experience across multiple platforms (Star Wars Galaxies/Star Wars: The Old Republic, Garry's Mod HL2RP/WWII RP/SWRP, Multi-Theft-Auto RP, World of Warcraft, Face of Mankind, and ArmA 2 Cherno Life, to name a few) has taught me perhaps the most important item pertaining to a Leadership Role: Roleplay enhancement. It is the solemn duty of -Anyone- in charge of -Any- Roleplaying group or faction to enhance the Roleplay experience by any means possible. Enriching the experience, so that others may find the round enjoyable and immersive. That is my primary goal, no matter the position. I feel that a Whitelist would only enhance this. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I remember operating the tank with you one round and you were very pleasant to be around! You know how to RP and I think that you're exactly the sort of person who should be on the whitelist. +1!

I would be okay with seeing Amelie as a CO. Although I've seen her only here and there, each time I've encountered her, she's held a respectable level of RP and is fairly competent in what she does. +1

I'm not able to remember you clearly, might be something with the time-zone, but with the little contact that I had with you, I can affirm that you'll be able to reach the level of RP required. It's notable as well that you're an old player, with that said, I'm giving you my +1

Re: Amelie Beatrix - Commander Application
While i have not seen them that often I have seen then in roles such as XO/SO before and they do have the right set to fill the position of a commander. They are calm and reserved as well as have the ability to RP decently.
I would like to see them as a Commander. +1
Though try to play XO/SO positions some more. So that people can put more feedback on you.

Haven't been playing too much recently but I'd say enough, but anyway the application looks good overall and you've played a good amount of command staff roles.

Good character to be around, knows that they're doing. I think they'll make a solid Commander if given the chance. Nothing bad I recall about Beatrix, and and have constantly seen them in the front lines giving benos hell. A definite +1 from me.

I'll trust the judgement of others. You seem competent enough from my views of you in-game.
But this app could use a small bit more feedback.

I haven't seen you in game for a bit, but I remember you from back in the day. As mentioned above, you seem competent and I really enjoy seeing that someone attempts to make a "I'm a leader, not a boss" commander.
But as the others said, a little more activity, both in game and on the forums, wouldn't hurt. Regardless, a +1 from me.

Re: Amelie Beatrix - Commander Application
I’ve played with you a few times, but based on your application, I think I could lean towards a +1
Amelie heres two questions for you based on situations I dealt with as an XO without a CO
1. The map is big red, two of your squads have deployed to LZ2 and both have engaged the Xenos immediately at engineering. Your squad has pushed the Xenos back into the caves when suddenly you begin to see the outskirts of what you believe is the hive. The Xenos have gone here and the map is only 10 minutes since drop, what would you do?
2. The map is prison station and the tank crew says they’re gonna deploy. Your RO goes unga over this along with the CT all complaining why does a tank need to deploy on a prison station as there is no room. The TC begin arguing with the RO over command channels to the point that the req lines are getting held up.

Re: Amelie Beatrix - Commander Application
Thank you for the consideration, which, given what I have seen of you and what I have come to expect of you, I feel is an honest judgement.
As for your questions, I will answer to the very best of my ability.
One? Assuming that Leaders and Staff Officers have not only reported that there is a hostile xenofauna present which is, effectively, the OpFor, but have pursued (Or taken independent measures to allow the OpFor to be pursued) them into the cave system, the situation would be an interesting one. Per game guidelines, charging right into the nest and annihilating the Xenos within fifteen minutes of landing is unacceptable. So, taking a Role-play friendly approach, I may order the squads to post a Fireteam inside Engineering, and order the rest to secure the Colony first, citing that the recovery of potential survivors and Company property to be the highest priority. If the Xenos can't break out via some other connected cave, or through the Fireteam nearby, within a reasonable amount of time (Thirty-five to forty-five minutes), I would have to just call it sour grapes and allow the hive to be cooked, if it's where we left it from the get-go. It's important to give them a fighting chance, to be sure, but I can't just -Hand- them the round.
Two? Well. Firstly, I personally question the usefulness of a Light Tank in the extremely close quarters of a space station, especially early on, when we cannot assume that control of the station has been completely lost. From a Role-play standpoint, I may be tempted to delay deploying the tank until evidence of a hostile takeover (CLF/Xenos begin to engage the Marines) becomes available. When the Requisitions Ensign begins arguing with the Tank Crew, I may take a stern, yet diplomatic, approach. If the concern is the Crew ordering excessive amounts of explosives, I would calmly point out that, if the squad assigned to the tank lacks the explosives for entry into an area, the Engineers may be able to disassemble the walls manually. If the argument sparked over the Crew wishing for the Requisitions Ensign to order them a load of tank components, which, at the moment, causes a heavy strain on the Requisitions System at the beginning of the round, I would have to deny the Crew their components in the beginning, as the infantry would have priority in a CQC environment.
But, before anything, I would have them clear the Command channel, and get Requisitions back on track with the lanes. Chaos may be the standard operating environment of the USCM, but that doesn't mean we can't work to limit the chaos.

Re: Amelie Beatrix - Commander Application
As a PFC, I tend to be a front line trooper. But, that's any decent PFC.Aceluke123 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2018, 23:29I'd probably give my vote, but as Sargeant says, I want a bit more feedback as well as a reply to Thesoldier's questions.
Knowing a bit more about your playstyle would be lovely.
When in a Command position, I tend to attempt a prudent, yet flexible, Role-play centric style of leadership. If I am Overwatching a Squad, I try to convey orders, but, if the Lead appears competent, I try to avoid micromanaging them unless absolutely necessary. Communication is definitely key.
As an XO, or a CO (Back before the Whitelist), I emphasize the point of communication even further. A Commanding Officer cannot be effective if they have no idea what their Marines are doing. In my experience, explaining the reasoning for an order tends to increase the chances of Marines actually obeying it.
Generally speaking, the prudence comes into play with the line, itself. I try not to over-extend a squad, or else we've got another Lost Battalion scenario where they're cut off and getting seven shades of crap knocked out of them. I am a proponent of flexible defensive doctrine. If someone is attacking your chest (Center), and grabs your right arm (Right flank), you take your left hand (Left flank), form a fist (Uproot), and punch their lights out (Flank the center from the left). On the same note, if -Nothing- is secure, I will focus on forming an actual line, blocking all of the holes which may be blocked so the rear isn't ripped to pieces.
Of course, this is all in theory. Few plans survive first contact with the enemy.

Alright, I'm willing to give my +1 as I like your style when it comes to managing squads and your overall idea on how a commander should act.
Just remember to have fun and if you can, make sure everyone else playing has fun!
Though using the good ol BE if someone you believe is ruining the fun of everyone else by being a problematic person is fine. Just make sure to follow procedure and have a good reason though
