The 4 hour battle over Ice, underdeck uberturtle

Post by ThePiachu » 12 Jun 2018, 12:49

Yesterday night we had a prolongued battle over Ice. I think by the time everything was done it was starting to push 4 hours. The most notable part of it though, was how half of that time was spent just fighting on Almayer, trying to break the biggest marine turtle I've yet seen.

The game started out okay - Queen oving close to the underground ship. We managed to harass a bit early round, very few marines were going down underground. Queen decided to make this more of a mobile game - she moved hives to lower engineering to throw marines off, then later on back closer to the crashed ship.

Then we decided to charge the aerodome. We drove a wedge into the side of Marines, managed to get a good number killed and captured, but we did lose quite a lot of sisters. The predators were also harassing us a bit. Killed one or two sisters, but eventually got killed.

We licked out wounds, got onto the dropship, and flew into Almayer. Since we decided to bring our predator trophy onboard though, it seems to have exploded on impact, killing two of our sisters straight on landing. No problem - admins gave us new bodies. We landed in upper engineering - great! You had to go through us to get to SD. We quickly dominated upper level, lower level was also easy. But then, oh boy, the underdeck. It was a hellhole of barricades and marines waiting to shoot us. 60+ people, all gathered there, even with a large area for a field medbay! Elevator was also surrounded by barricades in a killing zone formation. Things looked a bit grim.

Well, Admins decided "fuck this thing" and gave xenos a way to get around this. A wonky ladder that moved us into the vacuum of space right next to the underdeck. We managed to find a way in, but it was funny watching xenos walking through space... So we started sieging them from north. Three boilers, queen, crushers, etc. The bodies started piling up, infected hosts as well. But so did our casualties. We lost a queen somewhere during this siege, or before. We fell back for awhile, then began sieging again. Well, whitehosts showed up, joined the uberturtle and began killing us. Man, those bullets hurt - boilers getting two-shotted from a sniping distance, etc.

Eventually our next queen died, we circled back up to the dropship. 6 sisters left - Queen, Boiler, Carrier, 2 Runners, and a Drone. Then our Ancient Runner died. But the battle took its toll on the Marine side as well. 15 hosts left. We had a skirmish with a few at CIC, barely surviving a flamer. Then other hosts decided to wonder around Almayer, so we managed to pick them off. New larva bursting from hosts all over, few surviving longer than a few seconds. But our numbers were growing slowly, while Marines did not have a doctor to fix them up anymore. I think the last skirmish was in CIC, with a defender, runner and a boiler against some host that wouldn't keep down.

It was a long battle, wouldn't want to go through this again, especially without Admins helping. We probably should've stayed on the planet, force the Marine hand to land once more (since they had 80+ people when we landed originally)... But oh well.

Fuck the uberturtle ;).

It was an interesting round, and further reinforces my desire to see a reworked endgame that preferable does not occur on the Almayer in the first place.

The Queen died during the underground charge because she ended up charging solo into a field of guns and M56Ds that not even her screech could silence.

The Marines did ''technically'' win the battle since I believe the Xenos were reduced to around three or so xenos. But the round was dragging on, and the lack of tcomms compounded the situation alongside a lot of infected marines.

Eventually the admins speed things up by force bursting infected marines which eventually ended with a single marine alive in CIC (technically two but the second was near death) which lasted until the xenos finally charged in.
This is war, survival is your responsibility.

Idea for endgame - enter battle royale mode... ;)

It was actually a really fun round for me, probably because I missed virtually the entirety of the Underdeck stuff until I saw it in deadchat at the end of the round. I got a hand chopped off when the CO had us push down the ladder in the excavation site, and then was captured and infected when my escort ran off on me (no hard feelings they probably would have just killed her too). I actually met up with her in medical later, but she got killed and dragged off and we didn't really get to chat about what had happened. Anyway, for some reason I get left out of a nest and manage to report loosely on my position (incorrectly). Shamrock puts together a rescue mission and gets me out, despite apparently having gotten the wrong location of my corpse from several people. By this point I had bled out from self-inflicted knife wounds, but I get rez'd, cryo'd, taken up to medical, and the larva is removed (but is developed enough to be alive when removed, which I didn't know could happen).

There's a lot of medical BS that goes down involving me dying repeatedly on the table, a bravo medic fistfighting my doctor to put me in a cryo tank, and a new doctor healing me up. At that point we've retreated, I gear back up and hide in the pilot's office. I venture out to see a Staff Officer taking the Normandy, so I hop on, we realize we have no coifs, then realize LZ2 I guess is warm enough to be fine without, and then that all the entrances are sealed. No power to unlock the doors, all the smaller doors are bolted and as a PFC I can't hack. He leaves on the Normandy so I weld myself into the power room and start rambling about my life story to no one (except Dead chat I guess). I hear PMCs take the bridge and try to organzie a counter-attack, but I have no comms and no normandy, so I'm stuck planetside with nothing to do.

Suddenly I hear melee and look to see I'm being attacked by an AI Hunter. I kill it, accuse the gods of pulling some bullshit, so naturally my welded door gets deleted and five AI ravs attack me, thwarting my hopes of waiting out the rest of the round planetside. Deadchat is blowing up about a marine major thwarted by the admemes, etc, etc. Xenos are salty about the defense, marines are salty about it being bypassed, admins are frustrated about everyone being frustrated. I took off for the night, but I don't think it was a great round for a number of reasons for most people.

Turtling on the Almayer is the main reason I don't join xenos after I die. Most of the time by the time I die the planet is almost lost and T1 or young T2 can't do anything against turtling.
