Mobile hive tactics

Post by ThePiachu » 17 Jun 2018, 21:11

So recently we had a pretty good Big Red round, where we managed to turn the tides of the battle by moving our hive a few times. Basically, we started in Research, lost half of the hive and the Queen there, moved to SE caves, nested, de-ovid, pushed Research again, went to Lambda to ovi back up, de-ovi, push half-empty Research, ovi back up in Research, then stomp all the way to victory.

By having the Queen join the fight for a bit, then retreat back until Marines realized where the new hive was, then pushing again once they start to abandon their old spot, you are able to negate the turtling capabilities Marine have. Running into cades head on until they break can be suicidal, while forcing marines to move their barricades means depleting their resources, splitting their manpower and forcing them to adapt.

Do you see this kind of tactic used often?

Also, I'm recording!

That was a good round, and you are right one of the major marine strengths is battle of attrition with a good FoB and a stream of latejoins. Having to be kept on the move means a few ungas will get lost and picked off.

Can't say I've seen it used much, the only time most aliens move hives is when one get bulldozed. But defiantly worth testing out more in the future.

It looks like a solid strategy, it may even be capable of avoiding flanks from the marines too. The only time I've seen a queen try to move hive the rest of the xenos didn't follow her and she got memed, probably works better with a hive that coordinates.
When the OB misfires and xenos are on your doorstep.
