I have played 2 consecutive rounds as TC as Gunner, playing one with Artillery Mod, and the other with Overdrive Mod.

In my opinion, Artillery is way more powerful for the Tank, since you can target benos at way bigger distances, and you can kill any alien without giving them warning. Boilers won't have time to run for cover, and you'll have immense fun gibbing Young Runners charging down your alley!
Overdrive can work too; I've played a round with Lisa Taylor as Driver. With binoculars, she spotted targets and I either gibbed them (just 1 gib, it's hard to do direct hits while moving), or stunned them with LTB, then flamed them. She then crushed the benos, and marines killed it.
Overdrive can be amazing for countering Crushers and Queens, and you can kill Boilers if they don't move to cover and are unsupported, but you heavily depend on infantry support. That same round, at least 3 xenos survived because marines didn't follow up after we stunned them. Also, if you encounter a Boiler in Lambda on Big Red for example, you can't reach it.

The biggest advantage Overdrive has over Artillery is that it makes the round fun for both Driver and Gunner. While a good Driver can RP or do other things while their Gunner keeps gibbing xenos, they have to follow the Gunner's orders for positioning. And if they stumble across a bad Gunner... Oh boy. Overdrive on the other hand, if played correctly, can make the Driver feel incredibly powerful, and the Gunner still feels worthwhile.
I think Artillery Module should extend the Driver's FOV aswell, so they know how to move the tank in order to help the Gunner. Or, you can hand the Secondary gun's controls to the Driver, so they can use Flamers for example if you are swarmed, and the Gunner keeps firing the LTB.

Overdrive is better overall IMO, especially with tank crush being as broken as it is.

We'll see if it holds up after that gets nerfed.

It allows you to engage, disengage, get to the action, and much more easily crush and kill with a follow up weapon like the flamer, or follow up a stun from another source (like the LTB/TOW/grenades/slugs/etc) with crushing.

The main downside is it requires a competent driver; if you don't have that, or don't know you have that, stick with the Arty.


Granted, Boiler sniping with the arty module is very powerful, and if there is daylight between the two, it isn't much.

I'd prefer to see the tank's 'crush' act like a charger charge. If you get hit, you get flung and stunned for a moment. Marines and benos included. This comes part in parcel with beaucoup damage to the crushee.

The problem with having the tank throw crush victims is that its easy for xenos to recover them if they get thrown towards the xeno lines and it makes it too easy for marines to kill xenos that don't when they get thrown into the baying mob.

Plus the crush it more "you got pulled under the treads".

When I played tank we did LBT and TOW with artillery, and we retked xenos all day. The TOW would shoot first to stun it, then it would eat a direct shot from the LBT. Almost guaranteed to kill the smaller ones or really hurt the bigger ones.
