Strategy idea - build a base in hospital

Post by ThePiachu » 25 Jun 2018, 00:10

Has anyone tried taking over a hospital in maps like Big Red and using that as a large FOB? If you could get even one doctor in there with proper medical tools you could be treating serious injuries on the spot, provided you'd have at least enough power for one scanner. This could speed up the time a wounded marine would need to get back into the fight.

On the flip side, the hospital is a bit large, so it might be hard to secure it all, and the xenos could melt half of it before the rounds even starts...

This does not work as you have four different flanks against you there, also all the medical supplies can be moved to LZ1 which you can secure better.

Using anything other than a landing zone as an FoB is a bad idea as you can get surrounded and cut off with no way to escape.

I could see it working perhaps if you cut off flanks by building walls at the east and west but it would take up way too much resources to be practical.

You can make a makeshift MASH at LZ1 using the inflatable walls, a stretcher, surgical tray, and space cleaner

The sterile environment and the scanner in the hospital on Solaris Ridge is nice and all but it is very open to attacks on all fronts if the FOB were set there. Walls can be melted, charged at, and blown up easily which would lower the defensive ability of the marines greatly as they have to use up more materials to patch up gaps in their defence while also using more manpower to guard those gaps. In the meanwhile if no secure path to LZ1 is secured, the marines might be cut off completely from supplies and reinforcements which is detrimental to the marines if they run out of either which would lead to them trying to fall back which they cannot since the path to extract is overrun as well. If one were to simply try and block off the flanking routes with walls, girders, or barricades, it would simply use up too much resources while also putting on a massive strain on requisitions budget if points and manpower as well as being useless in the later stages of the round where the xenos could simply just have a crusher or boiler break through. Another factor to consider is the fact that the tank cannot settle down in the hospital easily without the help from a lot of C4 or engineering help from an MT or combat engineer which would seriously slow a lot of things down. Communications might be cut due to the marines not sufficiently guarding LZ1 compared to the FOB at hospital which is honestly a terrible thing for marines as they would not be able to get reports to command, cannot coordinate with command for Orbital Strikes and offsets, cannot tell command what supplies they need, cannot coordinate with CAS/CASEVAC, and cannot easily coordinate with their own squads. All in all, the consequences of placing the FOB at hospital over LZ1 are much greater than the pros of this so don't do this.

Not only can you secure it better, but it's so close to the FOB that it's extremely easy to do so. Only thing you gain is a completely sterile environment, of which is of limited usefulness, and a scanner; of which is similarly limited in usefulness for field surgery.

too many flanks, and xenos can easily cut you off from LZ1, but the concept is nice.
