What happened during the CLF / zombie round?

Post by ThePiachu » 01 Jul 2018, 04:13

So, it seems like there was a lot going on in the CLF / zombie round that just ended. Would someone want to share some of their stories?

Almayer Research / CMO early round pretty much wanted to make Chloral Hydrate grenades. But once we figured out CH reacts with sugar, we had to figure something out. One of the researchers figured - Unstable Mutagen ought to do the trick! Luckily before we detonated anything zombies started showing up. Unfortunately, first the PANDEMIC and later the Incinerator got deleted, so no zombie cure... Eventually my character escaped on the planet, but seeing how that also had some zombies in, suicide time.

I heard that the CL wanted to do something unethical (with High Command saying "no"), and later heard it was implanting CLF with loyalty chips. I also noticed that the CL managed to escape the ship... Lucky man!

So, what else was going on?

Both of those objects seriously got deleted? That's dumb.
I got killed by the idiot Delta squad leader firing the MG at a wall while I was trying to drag bodies back behind the front line, so I left after that.

Honestly, it makes one wonder what the point of trying to find a cure for zombies if the staff are just going to prevent you from doing it in the first place?

Was leading Charlie as an SO
Had a suicide SO in CiC who I don't recognize who was on all squad comms ordering suicide charges into the CLF cave defense of two rockets and a mounted MG with a scope, which had a scope but had so little damage it was kind of pathetic but up close it ripped marines to shreds.
And after he got most of Alpha killed he began to insist on the rest of us suicide charging.
Then came the first sight of the CLF commander, I saw him on my SL's cam and called it out, he was dressed rather fancy and I began to think that UPP were involved. Especially when I got word we had UPP uniforms, I immediately thought that the UPP were gonna show up and annihilate us. But no it turned out to be a disease that the suicide charger SO called a bioweapon to try and get chemical weapons used by our medical team, me and the CO however quickly pushed this thought down, time and time again, even when I somewhat agreed with it, I still said no to it.
Then the zombos came and the CLF surrendered, I ordered Charlie to get shipside in order to help stop them. However their SL was more interested in wandering around waiting to shoot CLF and threaten the rest of Charlie with insubs than to ACTUALLY follow orders, and he was already a suicide charger who I had hoped would die saying he would STILL order suicide charges even when on the Alaymer and I partially wanted to just have him arrested or demoted the entire game.
But besides that I pushed into the Alaymer research quarantine to retrieve one of my marines who got thrown in who wasn't even infected and try to rescue them.
Yes the damn researchers were indeed throwing uninfected peeps into research cells with infected.

Some peeps were infected but not turned yet. You only see that on medical huds. So a lot of the people in containment were infected, but still human. Heck, a commander blew one of their heads clean off and they turned instantly, regrowing their head...

A zombie round happened and I missed it? Daaang. Can anyone tell me what the 'story' of this event was?

It was really good, I don't know the "official" story was but I know that
Basically CLF were hiding in LV's cave system. They were holding out and it seemed like a regular operation, however, from my point of view it looked more like a secret UPP backed CLF operation, so I was saying that we were likely gonna have UPP invade us shipside so we would be in a lot of trouble that way.
However it turned out that the CLF were all sick and were hiding in the caves. This sickness would later reanimate them and would eventually kill them and resurrect them. Then it became a fight for survival for all involved.

The story was great. The only thing I don't like is the deleting of the incinerator. No cure? Okay, fine. No incinerator? Come the hell on. I don't like it when marines literally cannot win.

I went groundside as scout spec. Me and two other bravo marines ended up getting drunk as shit in the kitchen,as one does on FOB duty. I eventually rolled up to the frontlines where the CLF was, and saw the tank had gotten stuck in the destroyed state in a very narrow chokepoints. Admins intervened and 'airlifted' the tank out of the caves. (Hilarious now that I think about it.)
Problem is, the tank's hitbox was still there, so we had an invisible wall and a one-tile narrow passage to move through in order to attack the CLF.
A couple marines try and push through and die, and, seeing as I am a scout spec and thus the most likely to succeed in pulling back bodies, I go to grab some. Immediately as I move ahead two marines start blasting into the invisible wall uselessly, shooting me nearly to death.

Well okay then, rescue aborted. I eventually end up getting evac'd on a stretcher by Reinhard, without being able to really fight any CLF. New doctor worries over me, takes a really long time, but I tell him not to sweat it because we all have to learn somewhere.
Finally back up on my feet, I try and go find Mikey since apparently we are evaccing because of zombies now. On my way to CIC, Tess Greed—The CL for that round—ushers me into her office. She offers me ultrazine and an implant on the condition that I help get her off the station when evac is called, since things are kinda desperate, and I really want to escape as well, I accept. She later sends a FAX to High Command about the situation, of whom promptly has ARES blow up the pods to contain the infection, and calls in a death squad on top of it.
I meet up with MIkey—A staff officer and my Character's Boyfriend—and Juilo—The XO, and a close friend of Phi's—in CIC, and we are quickly called into Research for an apparent outbreak on the ship. We go in and the place is absolutely overrun, and way too cramped. I tangle with three zambinos, set them on fire with my scout rifle, but manage to get out unscathed. Juilo is less lucky, he ends up getting infected, and promptly kills himself. At this point I don't know that the pods have been blown up, so evac is never coming, so I go back in to try and get his keycard. This proves to be a horrible mistake, because I end up getting hit once by a zombie before killing it. I jump out without the keycard before another can hit me more, increasing my odds of infection. Mikey cryo's at this point due to IRL issues, so I head back over to protect Tess and fill my end of the bargain, hoping desperately that I am not infected.

Tess has holed up in her office with the blast doors down until High Command replies to her fax for help. At this point I start to feel warm, and I know I am fucked. I spend the rest of the round in Tess's office, and protect her from two zambinos who manage to break in when she opens the doors to let out her other bodyguard. I flush both zambinos down the disposals on fire, mostly to get them out of the way and out of an otherwise impenetrable area. I manage to coax her back into the office and at this point I start vomiting. Tess confesses she's always had a crush on me, and I promptly blow my own head off to stop turning. This of course, does nothing, and I turn into a zombie pretty much on the spot to chase Tess. I lose track of her, and the deathsquad ends up evacing her, blowing up the rest of the ship.

Okay, here is the video I had of the round: https://youtu.be/UHQv5cucXms

And a better description of what went down from my side of things:

----

An event round! Woo! This either means there will be zombies, or at least there will be a lot more shrapnel to pull out of people. Either way, Researcher was the way to go!

Started the round making a lot of chems for people. Many pills and bottles. Eventually we figured out what we were up against - the CLF have entrenched themselves in the caves. So we had a firefight on our hands!

Another Researcher, and the CMO, had some ideas as to how to help our troops - gas grenades. A few ideas were tossed around - Chloral Hydrate, Space Lube, Radiation, etc. Turns out CH reacts with one of the ingredients for smoke to create another compound, so we couldn't have that. Eventually Dr Bragin decided on the best course of action - Unstable Mutagen. I guess we were preparing to commit some war crimes! I was against the idea, but would supply the grenade parts not to be a complete wet blanket...

As we were preparing our own war crime, we heard the other side was also making one of theirs! They were also engaging with some chemical warfare! Before any of our grenades were finished, we got a strange corpse in the morgue...

I was eager to see how the PANDEMIC computer worked. So I grabbed a blood sample and... the admins deleted the machine mere minutes earlier... Welp, we investigated the zombie anyway, got a bit mauled by it, and in the end torched it in the incinerator.

The CLF started having some peace talks with us as more weird things started happening. Apparently the leader of the CLF was actually an UPP, dressed in some ceremonial garments. We were also seeing more zombies and more infected people. Not good. But luckily, we had our trusty incinera... Well, admins deleted that too... Welp!

The CL apparently also wanted to commit some war crimes and implant the captured CLF with its slave chips. The high command did not like that one bit, so it didn't take place. On the other hand, the CL did fax the high command and WY about the situation and they declared this ship a liability that needs to be contained. They sent a team in to activate the self-destruct, and the escape pods got disabled as well.

I wanted to roleplay my character as a coward that wants to survive at all costs, so I made him panic. I managed to go down to the planet via DS2, but there were zombies there still. With no way to torch them and keep them down, there was only one solution - a bullet to your own face.

Then I got to play as some zombies. We even had a Zombie Response Team. Then the WY Death Squad showed up to ensure the SD got activated. The humans were bunkered up tight in requisitions and self-destruct, and in the end everything got blown up.

Overall, a good round, minus the fact that once there was a single infected person, it was GG. Either you'd go down killed by zombies, or go down in the SD explosion. It would be nice to at least have a chance at fighting against this thing...

For those saying "why no cure", there was a cure in the CLF base. Several vials of it in fact.

The CLF just happened to stash them somewhere hidden when they realized you were going to overrun them.
