Best advice I can give you is to check the wiki for now. It has plenty of useful info for you to get through most of the game marine and beno side. Whitelist application should only be considered when you feel like you're known somewhat and you've played the game long enough to understand the skills needed to perform each whitelisted roles

Wiki - wiki/Main_Page - seriously, read this! It has everything to get you started
Black Pants Legion, a SS13 Let's Player - https://www.youtube.com/user/BlackPantsLegion/videos (does a lot of episodes on various SS13 servers, but a few of them are also on Colonial Marines)
If you're more interested in how to play some roles on the ship side, I'm also recording my games - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCizC8u ... D0A/videos
Other than that, if you're playing and you're stuck, AHelp - you'll find that in one of the tabs on the right side of the screen. The staff should be able to help you out!

Re: Hey, can someone help me get around this amazing game?
Congratulations on your enlistment to the glorious United States Colonial Marines! God bless the USCM! We do not take any legal responsibility and we are not liable for injury, mutilation, or loss of life whether from any enemy combatant, accidental discharge from friendly munitions, purposeful discharge from friendly munitions, or any accident that can and often will occur while on duty. If you complain about said injuries around your superiors, we also are not responsible for a superior officer deciding to "put you out of your misery" (read: get tired of your whining) via battlefield execution.
...Let's be honest. You'll die. A lot. Maybe even three times within the hour, only to get stitched back together each time so that you may continue your glorious corpse-shamble back towards the frontline and do your part as a cog in the machine that is the USCM. It will be very very painful, but hey, at least you get to play with some cool guns and shoot stuff before you die, right? It's all about what happened while you were alive that makes the game fun. As a new player you may not regularly make it to the end of the round unless you don't even play your role as a marine and instead cower behind barricades all game long while the big boys finish the fight for you, or you get lost somewhere along the way and miss all the action. Just remember not to get too upset about your death and you'll have a better time playing CM.
If you want to know what the fuck is going on and you want to learn fast, you'll need to do some light studying. If you're new to SS13 as a whole then refer to this guide. If you've played on another /tg/-based server before and/or new to Colonial Marines, then refer to this guide to start learning how to play as a marine. These two guides give you a good number of basic tips that will massively improve your gameplay if you have next to no clue what you're doing. Even if you plan to never play as a xenomorph, knowing just how every type of xeno can rip you to shreds will help your marine gameplay. It's recommended that you play Squad Marine for a while until you get a hang of basic mechanics before moving on to other roles. Being a squad marine requires some thought and a lot of skill to play well. Combat is a pretty big part of the game and will require a lot of practice to get good at, as well as understanding of basic mechanics like bullet pathing. If you need help comprehending something while in game, then click the Admin tab at the top right of your screen and click "Adminhelp", "Gameplay/Roleplay Issue". If a Mentor is online, and there almost always is, you'll probably get a response within a minute or two of your ahelp. Just remember not to get snarky or rude because they are volunteering to teach you, after all. Hell, just don't be rude out of character. Shit ain't cool.
If what I've linked isn't enough for you, then you should check out the Colonial Marines wikipedia page. It's a huge wealth of knowledge that'll tell you what every role on the ship does. If you want to know what most roles do, then you can refer to this page to see what's up. Certain roles and events are intentionally left off of the wikipedia by the developers and they don't like giving exact numbers on in game mechanics, but most of the knowledge you'll find on it is up to date and reliable. If you want to read player-created guides with their own tips, tricks and strategies, then head over to the guide section of the forums and start reading.
Have fun playing Colonial Marines, and please try not to shoot your squadmates in the back.
