as aCO, how do you handle colonists?
When a colonist comes up to the Almayer, do you let them do whatever, or do you make use of them? Do you make the CL give them something to do, or do you let the CMP handle it? Or, do you handle them directly yourselves? Have you tried employing a colonist to become a Squad Marine before?

Colonists should never be going back planetside, do not do this.
That said, if they have the credentials, like a doctor or researcher, then assign them to a shipside role if they want to be assigned. Otherwise I would let them do what they want, and send them off to the CL in-case they have something they want them to do.

why never send them back down? If they are willing to join the corps, why not train them and employ them?Nantei wrote: ↑06 Jul 2018, 14:12Colonists should never be going back planetside, do not do this.

Because training takes longer than is even possible in-game. On top of this, it's just generally seen as a huge no-no. I don't think there is a formal rule over it, but admins have told me before that it's going to get you in big trouble. If you are unsure, ahelp it yourself or talk to a staff manager, they would know better than me.

If the Colonist was brought up, and wants to go back down. You can let em. Unless they kill a marine.
Just don't give them CE.
Don't give them access to the CIC because they will kill jones or meme the fuck out of the announcement system.
Otherwise there is nothing wrong with them being allowed to roam the ship, as long as they aren't trying to actively hurt or kill anyone.

Might be worth asigning them as a CT. We always seem to need them and its not a technical job, so a dumbass colonist could manage it.

I believe security-related survivors such as guards and marshals are allowed to take more risks (that means being able to go down planetside after being rescued) to combat the xenomorph infestation.

Colonists are treated as civilians and given limited access yo the vessel and relevant role access.
Colonists with military background may be drafted in emergencies or be deployed planeside as emergency personnel (paramedics moving wounded from frontlines to lz)
Colonist Prisoners are reviewed by the CMP
Lethals are restricted in all cases and they're never allowed in the CIC or any other critical locations without cuff on them.

You can deploy them as Ripley in Aliens, to assist and guide the marines fight something they have never fought before.

Pass them off to the CL because they're his responsibility as Wey-Yu employees, ask him to provide any relevant information to me. Gives both the Liason and the colonists some friendly time.

Re: as aCO, how do you handle colonists?
Officially. But I have never actually seen someone cuff a colonist once they are on the ship. I have walked into CIC with a double barrel once. Elizabeth Nightingale was with me during that and she made a show of the fact that she easily snuck a frag on.solidfury7 wrote: ↑07 Jul 2018, 06:34Lethals are restricted in all cases and they're never allowed in the CIC or any other critical locations without cuff on them.
Colonists are pretty much never going to attack the CO, it's suicide, so honestly I see why people are so lax about giving them stuff.

Re: as aCO, how do you handle colonists?
A bit late, but usually as an aCO I ask the MPs to retrieve them from the dropships peacefully, they come here as our guests and as survivors from a colony devastated by some kind of attack, they probably might be traumatized. After departing from the dropship(s), they should make their way to medical to receive a checkup for any kind of injury what so ever. From there, MPs should transport them to the brig to be stripped from any weapons or contraband and take it off them. After that, usually, the XO, Commander, or CL would talk to them. If there were multiple, it might be easier just to split the load between the CL and someone from the CIC team.
After that, it is important to remember after that Colonists may be forgotten and left to rot, doing nothing as usual. This is where Command should put them to use, doing something productive and enjoyable for them. It's up for the aCO to decide what, but easy and simple tasks are good for them.

Personally, viewing it from an official standpoint, I would treat them like eggshells. Don't want to put them in danger again, especially if you don't want to explain to the Commander that you had three survivors who're now mince meat because you let them fuck off.
I keep them in the CIC.
I keep them in the CIC.

Re: as aCO, how do you handle colonists?
Find them a job depending on what they do after they get processed by MP and interview with CL. However I never allow them to get a role that involves weapons as they’re civilians.
